❖ USK Chicago [2] / Maru Godas workshop & painting with Marc TARO HOLMES.
In our second episode about the Urban Sketchers Symposium 2017 in Chicago, we follow the instructors, sketching in the morning, before the workshops begin. Liz Steel, Stephanie Bower and Marc Taro Holmes are painting the famous Chicago Theater.
All along the video, I browse my sketchbook for you, sharing my drawings and sketches done with every media and tools : watercolor but also ink, pencils, gouache !... Plus instax mini photos too!!
We then enjoy a bit of Maru Godas workshop, "Gouache like a child", and some leaf through in her sketchbook. What an inspiration!
At the end of the video, Marc and I are painting the skyline and railways from a bridge (in full sun!!). The chat with Marc Taro Holme -, such a great painter and Urban Sketcher - is so interesting... I am happy to be able to share that with you!

Rewatched this morning. Very good advice from Marc...save the details till the end....I always put them in too early and then my sketches are overworked. Thankyou Anne-Laure..and Marc

Loved your video. Got some great tips out of it. Gouache for urban sketching. Interesting! I will have to try that one. Still learning to tame the 'beast'...:) Thanks so much for for sharing!

do you carry your gouache tubes with you when you work outside? how many would you usually take?

What a wonderful video and thanks for sharing it. I discovered you just yesterday and love your style. 2 questions for you: - what is the sketbook you used on this trip to Chicago? Where can I get it? I live in the US. - I like your palette you show in your other videos, long and thin. Was it a container of some sort and you fill it with half pans? I I bet it's small and light. Thanks again.

I buy empty pans and put them in the box then I add paint from my tubes. 😊 Yes, I like that it's thin, small and light, indeed. See yooooou!!! 😝😘
