I honor this song to a long time friend of mine who served in WW2...he was 94 and his funeral is this Saturday and I will wear my uniform in honor of him...R.I.P. my friend....

+Alexander Sears USMC Band- virtually every member has a degree in music from a college or conservatory. Openings are rare and auditions fierce.

This band is the only military band that does not require basic training. He wouldn't have had to go to boot camp.

@@earthling3096 depends on which band, the president's and commandant's own don't go to boot camp hence no cross rifles in their insignia, but the regular band does have em and go to boot camp. joining the regular band is alot easier than the president's and commandant's own.

The baritone/euph players are absolutely transcendent. Its not easy to be heard playing a similar part with the trombones, but whoever is playing has such beautiful tone you can really hear it 👌💯

One of the trumpeters here (Master Sergeant Matthew Harding) can be heard in another video playing the trumpet part of “Penny Lane” in the White House. Worth a listen.

For a while, played alto clarinet, enjoyed playing this counter melody along with the trombones and baritones. And other good ones in Sousa marches.

When I was 6 years old way back in the 1950s I went to see a film called marching along the film was about sousa I was this film at a cinema in Bradford West Yorkshire England I am 68 now and I have been marching along ever since now a days a little slower but when I hear these marches unlike me they never age hands across the sea and SEMPER FIDELIS

"Marching Along" was the apt title of John Philip Sousa's autobiography, circa 1928.

I have fond memories of playing this in my high school Marching Band. I find it fascinating to hear it with perfect tone and dynamics, played by a professional ensemble, as the high school kids couldn't do it justice.

If anyone here has seen the real snare part, the end of it is just a long series of 7 stroke rolls, essentially just one continuous tap roll... a pain in the ass to play for 20 seconds straight

This is being played in the Philippines by the Philippine Army Band, Philippine National Police Band, Philippine Marine Corps Band, Philippine Military Academy Band....during Military & Police Parades....

They’re children, mostly Gen Z + some Millennials. They’ve never heard of John Philip Sousa. They only know Travis Scott, Ye, Maroon 5, The Chainsmokers, and others who have bastardized music. I doubt there’s an American 40-45+ who doesn’t have at least some appreciation for Sousa’s music.

Just watched the swedish movie P&B and this is part of the soundtrack. It's a classic comedy about two hustlers (Stellan Skarsgård and Allan Edwall. Funny choice of music for such a movie.

In HS in Nebraska, I was one of three bass clarinets, we marched 105 people. Our bass clarinets were owned by the school. Mine was the oldest. We were marching in a Christmas parade and the bell fell off the bottom! The person behind me saw it and scooped it up without breaking formation. We laughed about that!
