A review of the US Marine Corps 2 man combat tent. A very robust and well designed tent which is perfect for 1 or 2 people and is a perfect addition to a vehicle kit.

So this is actually just an updated design based on the North face Nebula tent. The Nebula was 2 man 4 season tent. This USMC tent also has the better 'bathtub' floor where no ground seams are near the ground.

A synthetic fabric ground cloth prevents punctures and dirtying of the bottom of the tent. Use of it is mandatory when you are the one who spent money buying it.

ive spent so many miserable nights in this tent -_- deserts, forests, rain, sun the tent is actually quite good!! many of ours had broken zippers from heavy use the worst part is setting it up because you have to run the poles through the sleeves but it feels VERY durable and tough compared to my Hubba Hubba

Yeah I've always slept comfortably in them during the cooler months. Stayed nice and toasty in my sleeping bag. They're not a 4 season bag though. When i was in the mountains doing mountain warfare training during the winter I used one of these vice a 4 man extreme cold weather tent. Well it snowed it's ass of that night and we woke up to the tent roof laying against our faces as it had collapsed under all the weight of the snow lol. Good times Family is doing well. Thanks for asking buddy. Cheers Darren Ken

Another great item used by the Corps. I picked on of these up for use in higher elevation around northern Arizona and Grand Canyon area hunting & camping. Plenty of room for 2 men with gear and comfortable in rain and medium wind, it doesn't flex down on you in gusts. After a cold deer hunt at the canyon with light snow I modified mine as an experiment. I cut a 3 1/4 hole towards the rear top and had extra canvas sewn around in support and an outer flap sewn outside to cover it using Velcro. That is for the 3 section telescoping stove pipe, I use a small wood stove made from a .50 cal ammo can with a 20 inch heat pad under it. You have to be careful and not crank up the fire but you can have a decent fire which really takes the chill out in snow or cold nights and heats a coffee cup of water. I used the WALL canvas outfitter tent stove set up as an example. With 2 men it wont work because its a little to close quarters but alone it does provide warmth and comfort. I had this same set up in a older canvas tent but the weight only allowed use in horse packing trips. This new set up can be back packed in easily.

I got this tent after watching ur review. this tent is awesome! little bit on the heavy side but worth the effort humping it on my back. if ur carrying it with ur buddy its not that bad I think(mine came with 2 seperate bags, tent and flies). its very sturdy and pretty roomy enough to sit up straight with no problem and store bunch of gears inside the tent. havent tested out yet in heavy downfall but I think its gonna hold up good. mesh netting on both sides are one of the things I love about this tent, too for ventilation.

a very nice review, well done :) I'm using the one man tent the same woodland camo, USMC issued. I like this one but the height is short so I can barely sit up inside the tent and dont have enough room to store my ILBE and MOLLE2 packs so I put them outside of my tent and cover them with poncho. I think this 2 person tent will be much more comfortable :) Im gonna get this one in future.
@douglasleonhardt59679 жыл бұрын
Excellent review. Nice looking tent. Would definitely work well as two person tent if one of you is on the shorter size. Would work well for me when I go backpacking with my daughter. As for the Velcro on the outside of the fly they are designed/intended to be used along with the second set of holes on the corners to use a second set of poles. This increase strength and stability making it suitable for winter use. Thanks for the review.
@kjumper19 жыл бұрын
Douglas Leonhardt Without a doubt this tent is def big enough for you and your daughter. I've used it many times both while in the Marines and backpacking. It slept 2 of us in it with plenty of room. Its a pity it doesn't have a double ended zip. I got a civi tent that has that. Its really good to just leave a little ventilation open above well off you as you sleep. I generally use a tarp, tent in winter. Prefer to keep the major heat in a tent and if ventilation is down low on a door, defeats the purpose. But still, if I could get this in straight brow or MTP ( I'm in Australia) I'd buy it

What about ventilation ? Would the use of a stove be unhealthy? North country here.

No you never want to use a stove inside a tent. However you can use it inside of the vestibule as long as you keep the vestibule door open partially to allow for ventilation, but never inside the tent itself.

+Rob Trew A guy name Mors made this suggestion. A candle uses up about as much O2 as a person and gives off about as much heat. This is a two man tent so if you are going it alone you might burn one candle. I have a candle lantern that can be suspended, lite and left to burn all night. A second option might be a pocket hand warmer. This doesn't change the fact that most tents and their contents are highly flammable and you need to be careful. Neither option is going to add much heat but it will certainly add some heat and some can beat the heck out of none.

Awesome roomy tent. Nice review too. One question- why would a military tent have velcro on it? Wouldn't that make lots of noise? Or does the velcro not make too much noise? Thanks for the review, i'm looking in to buying this tent for stealth camping so that's why i'm asking.
@kjumper19 жыл бұрын
Julian Pereira These tents are set up in the rear areas so having velcro on them wouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to be really stealthy you could always remove the velcro, but it isn't that loud to be honest. You will really like this tent. A bit heavy to haul around via a backpack, but a fantastic tent. Ken

@kjumper17 жыл бұрын
For cold weather it's a definite yes, but for snow camping where there is heavy snow fall I would say no. I have used this tent in a snow storm and when I woke up the next morning the snow had collapsed the tent down on top of me. How heavy is it good for backpacking?
@kjumper14 жыл бұрын
Its weighs around 6 pounds and it's a decent tent for backpacking if you don't mind the bit of weight. I've hiked it before and had no issues whatsoever.
@sandymilne2242 жыл бұрын
With all the items it comes with, it is about 10 lbs, which is way too heavy for a backpacking tent. It should be closer to 4 lbs for a backpack tent. The issue is the weight of the rain fly. It’s fantastic! I love this tent but you have to be leaving extra poles, stakes and repair kit at home and only take 4 pegs in order to keep the weight at a manageable level. Perfect for the truck camping that I do. I head for the back country, pull up beside a lake and set up camp. I T ake the whole thing. The deal is… I’d like to get a sil-nylon replacement fly made up for backpacking trips that is exactly the same size, without the blackout feature which brings the weight to the fly. For winter, I’d carry the blackout version and for the summer backpacking, a sil-nylon version. I’ll just never get to that project though.

Correct. No vents. That’s the reason why the fly doesn’t go all the way to the ground. Condensation is an issue with this tent because of the lack of air flow, other than on a windy night. Air does circulate from the bottom of the fly to between the fly and tent, but it is minimal.
