Saw this same type of procession and inurnment for the USMC pilot son of an Air Force Colonel who lost that 22 year old son in a plane accident. The Colonel used to work for me in the Pentagon and I have known her for over 30 years. I first met her as a young Lieutenant and watched her progress up the ranks. That was her only son and was a crushing loss. He was a USMC Osprey pilot and lost his life in a private plane crash. RIP and respect for his Mom, Marjorie Davis, Col USAF (ret).

Thank you for sharing this story... It always breaks my heart to see a member of the Armed Forces or a fellow Veteran pass on, but its especially hard when you know that they did countless dangerous missions and put their life on the line each time only to die in a private low risk civilian aviation incident...may God Bless and comfort Col. Davis and the remaining members of her family...

As an undertaker and gravedigger/ greenkeeper. It must be a great honor to work at a military cemetery. I am not patriotic to my country, because I as a christian dont believe in politics. But I must admit this ceremony looks amazing. I ve seen some disciplined ceremonies. But US marines is certainly the most amazing ceremony. This discipline in rain and cold weather. I know how it feels even in winter with freezing weather and rough snow. Or hot summer days burning sun and hot air.

I was a mortician for over 25 years and with each military funeral the person was inspected 3 times before it was allowed to be viewed, first by me, then the 2 that would actually be the funeral attendants and then a member of the military usually a CO. Even with a cremation everything was perfect may Col Williams rest in peace

The female officer riding the lead horse: her baring is so... the word that immediately comes to mind is “regal”, but that would the wrong word. Regal comes from the word regent and a regent serves a monarch. This woman is an officer in the US military, therefore she is much more than that. I don’t know what the word is, but she exudes confidence, command presence, honor, professionalism, pride... I don’t know...but I’m glad she represents us.

Watched the dignified, respectful, compassionate way the marines conducted the funeral of Col. Williams. Then watched the cemetery representative handle the remains like it was a piece of luggage, or a grocery store bag. The civilians at Arlington should be more aware of the seriousness of such event. So disrespectful.

I had the privilege to attend my Uncles funeral (Commder US Navy)bronze and silver star. The reverence and respect to honor a fellow American . We are all equal in death there are no ranks ,each soldier gets the same treatment .On a side note,at Arlington they have little old ladies wearing Pearl's who show up for EVERY funeral to make sure the fallen shall not die alone. It is ironic that Arlington was Robert E Lee's estate, he should have been made to live there while the graves were being dug . I had to go back to Arlington to see the ceremony at the tomb of the unknown and also JFK memorial . I hope someone may reconsider the rhetoric of war especially civil war These guys know how to shoot guns and play music!

With Arlington filling up rapidly and expected to be out of space by 2025, why are military retirees still being allowed to be buried there? I retired honorably after 24 years of service as a Marine Corps officer with two combat tours in Iraq, but I would NEVER consider being buried in Arlington, regardless of whether I rate it, which I currently do. Those spaces should be reserved for those killed in the service of their nation (peacetime operations or combat) or who died of wounds suffered therein, and for no one else. There are many politicians buried there--for instance, Ted Kennedy. Why? For running Mary Jo Kopechne into the Chappaquiddick and accidentally drowning her? We can honor our career military retirees who have served honorably in the state VA cemeteries, and THAT is where they should be buried if they want to be buried with their military comrades. My father served honorably in air combat in WWII in Europe. He is buried in a VA cemetery in NJ. I am tired of career officers, no matter how honorably they served, no matter how long, or what administrative or non-combat achievements they accomplished, taking up spaces that belong to those who gave their lives in the line of military duty. That is why Arlington was founded, and THAT is who belongs there--with the exception of those awarded the MOH, Navy Cross, DSC, or AFC, AND who were combat wounded in the action for which they received that award (meaning if you received the AFC and were not wounded, go back to the O club, enjoy your Mai Tai, and thank the Good Lord above you didn't get your rear-end shot off). NO ONE ELSE gets in. All that said, every blessing upon you, Col Williams, and may you rest in peace. S/F, Marine.

"He wanted to be buried in Quantico with the rest of the Jarheads",

Your absolutely right . I do however feel government civilians killed in the line of government service should allowed to be buried in Arlington case in point one of the seven C.I.A civilians (Elizabeth Hanson) killed in Afghanistan Dec 2009 is buried there which I think is right .

My Dad was a three war Marine Colonel retiring in 1971. We buried him at Quantico. It was his favorite base, his favorite golf course and his favorite General, Lew Walt is buried there. I felt he would just be one of thousands if we put him in Arlington. My Grandfather and Grandmother are buried in Arlington. We lived within sight of Arlington at one point and it is a special place, but I think he would rather spend eternity with his Marines..

Pardon me, but what are the signs the flag bearers doing while folding the flag? Never seen that before..or is it something recently added? God bless this fallen soldier and family and friends.

The chaplain reminded me of those memes circulating on Facebook of a few Mexican Catholic priests dancing during mass (which I consider bizarre and disrespectful).

I think the editor sped up the video in that section by a small margin so it wouldn't be so long, if you look at other things in the video it looks like they're moving a little faster than they should

If this was the chaplain’s service of burial, he should be transferred out, to grave digging or lawn maintenance. He was terribly rude and I would have him dismissed from my relative’s service and conduct it myself.

I cannot even begin to understand or accept her family's total disregard for the solemnity of the occasion! To show up in sandals, no ties and casual dress for the burial of a United States Marine Corp officer in the most sacred military burial ground is outrageous. If fellow Marines who didn't even know her willing showed her the respect she deserved so could her family. As the daughter and sister of military officers I was mortified that her family would demonstrate such disregard for her and the meaning of placing her to rest with the gratitude of her country and the Corps. I hope none of her family picked their teeth or played kick ball over or around the graves of her comrades in arms.
