The Honor Graduates of Bravo & November Company retire the platoon guidons and the distinguished graduates are recognized during the graduation ceremony on Parris Island. Graduation date #Dec152017 #ParrisIslandPhotography Congratulations Marines!
This is a great example of what Marine Corps boot camp graduation is like.
During Marine Corps boot camp Phase 4, the new Marines begin to transition from their roles as recruits into that of United States Marines. During this phase new Marines now call their Drill Instructors by their rank. Instead of “Sir” or “Ma’am,” it is “Sgt” or “SSgt”. The Drill Instructors continue mentoring the new Marines by conducting discussion periods on critical topics that will help the new Marines to be successful in their transition to the operational forces.
The new Marines are given more responsibility during this phase to ensure that tasks are accomplished and time hacks are met. No longer is every minute of their day managed by the Drill Instructors. Now, new Marines are given orders and expected to lead themselves to accomplishing the mission. This opportunity allows the new Marines gain a better understanding of how they will be expected to operate in the “Fleet.”
Marine Day 11, excited families line the streets and try to catch a glimpse of their Marine running by in formation. Family Day starts off with a motivational run, referred to as the “MOT Run” throughout the Depot. All graduating Marines run in formation while singing motivational cadence, loudly signaling successful completion of Recruit Training. As recruits run to the cadence of their Drill Instructors, parents, family members and friends line the streets and cheer as they try to find the face of their loved one among the crowd of new Marines.
After the MOT Run, the new Marines have a chance to see family and friends for the first time during on-base liberty. Graduation is conducted on Friday in a formal ceremony and parade, attended by family and friends.

I was privileged to attend my grandson's Parris Island graduation last year -- the last one with full Family Week festivities before the virus crisis lockdowns that have DESTROYED much of what makes life in these United States so meaningful! I feel so sad for the Marines that have come after and been denied a graduation in front of viewing stands filled with their adoring and proud family and friends! Yes, they are Marines, and have been trained to bear up under harsh conditions. I just have a problem when the conditions are largely contrived and arbitrary. I hope that this situation will soon be remedied.

My dad graduated at 17 in '65 and said every payday he bought a piece of the dress blue uniform, and it took him a few months to acquire the complete uniform. Many that shipped to RVN did so without ever having owned or worn a set of dress blues. So, some USMC KIAs in RVN died w/o having ever worn that uniform.

J Siebelink Do I ever agree with you! My 2 son's that currently serve would be the first to tell you that. You probably had to purchase it yourself too! If not, you are very fortunate. My oldest son joined after 9/11 and was on the bus to Parris Island. When he graduated in December, 2001, they didn't have the honor of graduating in the dress blues either. Then they had to purchase brand new dress blues, and every button on the blouse had to be replaced with new buttons that were $35 each. Crazy!

Yeah, it hasn't been that way for a long while. The Crucible, during week 10, ends with the recruits (not a rank, but a title) becoming Marines. The DI's take on a mentoring role and are called by their rank instead of "Sir" like the first ten weeks.

God Bless brothers and sisters, this is one honor I never experienced, the Parade Deck Graduation. When I was a young recruit, we graduated in the base theatre on Parris Island due to a Hurricane that never arrived. I actually had to prove this several times when Marines would say "All Marines graduated BC on the Parade Deck aboard P.I.". I simply show them my platoon year book and our series in the base theatre on graduation day. Semper Fi, enjoy the fleet. REMEMBER THIS, the current administration is demanding segregation by teaching hate toward one another based on race, THIS IS A FACT, however the Marine and your Doc to the left and right of you are YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, NEVER ALLOW ANYTHING TO ERODE THAT, especially a collective of garbage hate mongers! *******************WE ARE ALL GREEN, NOTHING MORE*****************************

Evidently recruits are issued Dress Blue uniforms sometime prior to Graduation from Boot Camp. During the period of time I served in the Corps, if you wanted to wear Dress Blues you had to purchase them out of pocket. Nevertheless, these Marines earned their EGA and on this day as they graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp. It was on this day that they became members of “The Few, The Proud” and from this day forward they will be known as United States Marines!

When our youngest son graduated from Parris Island, he had lost so much weight we almost didn't recognize him. He's a Sergeant now, stationed in Japan.

Good to see them in dress blues. I graduated 1 October 1993 in San Diego and we wore them. We were told that we might not and we were all pissed that we went through all the hard work and mostly for the dress blues. I believe we were the last company to get them for many years.

If I could live my life over, I would live it as a Marine....And I am a woman .. No not gay; I cannot think of any Greater life than being in the Military..Unfortunately my Mother discouraged me due to her misinformed information..But I did have the honor of being the wife of a Soldier. And at the age of 40yo I became an RN ..And was employed as a DAC at Walter Reed Army Medical Center . Such an Honor!!!!So I did have an honorable serving profession... But still sad I did not join the Military..

all of you who stood out, special recognition for the fantastic job you performed, is so truly an honor. 600 out of 600 is so incredible! Those of you who were honored as the most fit Marine is truly remarkable. That has to be the best day so far in life. Thank you all for making the decision to serve our country. Nothing greater has been accomplished previously to this day. Congratulations! Semper Fidelis

Back in 1951 boot camp in San Diego blues was no issue if u wanted blues you had to purchase it. Many after graduation went on leave to Oceanside and wore the blues that the photoshops had at hand. I never wore the blues because I felt if the Corp did not see fit that I should have one means I did not need it and I was not about to pretend I did. I have no regrets and am proud to have served.
