More than 17 years ago, the U.S. Navy christened the first of a new class of warship designed to operate in near-shore environments. The so-called Littoral Combat Ships or LCS would be fast and agile, capable of countering 21st-century coastal threats such as missile-firing boats, small submarines, and mines.

All our soldiers need to come home, except for joint training a couple of times a year. We have the ability to send a sizable force anywhere in the world in 3/4 days.

them you dont really know about ships, many serve for decades, navies like tradition and value good hulls, so you can refit a ship if it is obsolete in some way, the main thing youd change to make a combat ship relevant is its EW and detection systems like radar and sonar and newer missiles and active defenses, so it doesnt matter if a hull is new or not, most of them have very thin hulls and no armor and would have to be scuttled after a missile hit anyways, stop imagining things, your tax money is being overspent 😮

It really depends on if they are expecting war to come to our shores or not. If they are then lcs ships would be very handy. The independence variant has already been scrapped due to the hull cracking under every day use due to the aluminum hull.

LCS ships can still be repurposed. Independence class LCS can be drone carriers due to their huge flight deck while Freedom class can be fitted with Adaptable Deck Launchers ADL giving it more punch.

they been getting decomissioned thats the truth, the hull tends to crack because aluminum only works for smaller ships and multihulls always have issues with each one hull applying a lot of force on the joints, aluminum is really not a good material for large ships, they tried that way far back and it also failed in a monohull.

If you do not have a strong military you have no freedom of the seas. You have update weapon systems to keep the edge in war fighting capabilaty to protect our nations and allies. I am glad they are bringing back service registation to keep our nation safe. I served over tweenty years in the navy and am proud to have done my duty. More young people should serve at least four years, it teach them a skill and respect one another.😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙

I was offered a job on this project a while back. I didn't take it tho, because I'd have been so deep in *literal* combat with my ex, who also worked at the same location; I'd have no time in my life to think about littoral combat. That and Florida wages are awful.

I know from firing a round in to the water that as soon as it hits the water the round developed a bubble of air at the tip under water. To decrease drag of the water could it be possible to push air out the front of the sub to achieve higher speed under water?

And Kennedy taking that tip and tried to cut back on war is one of the two prongs of why he was killed: The refutation of the MIC and Kennedy DEMANDING that Israel open up their nuclear weapons site at Dimona for inspections or face losing their American taxpayer largess of almost $4 BILLION a year. Israel Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion resigned in the face of Kennedy's demands. LCS will not become obsolete in my lifetime. They are easily upgradable and serve multiple purposes. Just my opinion, if it means anything!

Sure why not... They could stick the AGS system from the failed destroyer line they had researched. that gun system could then have mass produced ammo for 40 plus ships all bearing drones missiles and cannon firing at 10 rounds a minute roughly. Maybe even stick some guns on it

Strategy is flawed. New thinking is needed. Todays war has shown that overwhemling swarm drones at extreme volumes can overcome all current countermeasures. 100 mil can build 10000.
