M109 Paladin Howitzer in Action - Live Fire Mission

The widely used M109 carries a 155-mm howitzer and is the principal self-propelled artillery support for U.S. Army divisions. It is a large tracked vehicle with a fully traversable turret and prominent bustle. Early variants had a short, 23-caliber barrel. Later versions, including the M109A6 Paladin, have a 39-caliber barrel.
The M109 has a crew of six: commander, gunner, driver and three ammunition members. The hull is made of all-welded aluminum armor, which protects against small-arms fire and shell splinters.
The driver is seated at the front left of the hull, with the powerpack to the right and the turret at the rear. The driver is provided with a single-piece hatch cover that opens to the left, with three M45 day periscopes in front. These can be covered with small metal flaps to prevent damage. One of the day periscopes can be replaced by a passive night-vision periscope.

What..? Not even autoloaded?? Even little Sweden managed to create an auto loading self-propelled gun/"artillery tank". And that was in the beginning of the sixties!! And it was really good too! Both accurate, good ranged and with a rate of fire, that was absolutely state of the art, top notch back then, AND! even by todays standards.. yeah, maybe you should look into copying and improving that design instead Yankee boys!! ; ) Oh, and it was called, “Bandkanon 1”.. just search here on YT, and you'll find a few pretty good vids..

Autoloaders are slower than manual loaders, that's why the US doesn't use them.

not necessarily, america has a lot of reasons to not use them. but part of it is mechanical/ruggedness advantage. Autoloaders can break down and jam or explode, putting the tank and the crew at a greater risk. Whereas on a manual loaded tank, it can continue to work for as long as the crew is alive and the gun isn't gone.@@showsjohn
