No wonder Prof MARIK said you are more of an immunologist . When I had a look back from previous lectures about covid , We had gone two steps forward in understanding the virus and it’s mechanism of action and how each drug acts on it and it’s benefits . We are going deeper and deeper and updating ourselves . Really fascinating . All credits to you . Thanks a lot for the pain and time you are spending to enlighten us .

Well deserved. His content is incredibly good and well explained. No one else is really conveying actual disease mechanism as he is. One can notice he is really thinking deeply about the disease, with real feeling for the underlying issues. Top notch thinker.

Excellent presentation. This is the kind of material we need the most and is where this channel shines. Most people in YT just want to cater to more immediate issues, but this is a key issue. Thanks for the competence and courage to discuss cutting edge immune system mechanics in light of your clinical expertise.

Will you do a talk about the role of Th17 and Treg cells with Th1/Th2 and the implications in autoimmunity particularly in the sphere of vaccines? I love how you present. I am a student of Functional Medicine and your simplified way of explaining is so useful in breaking down such a complex subject! Thank you!

Our immune system needs as much energy as possible to react effectively. ‘When you get sick, go to bed and stay there until you get better’ is the most important advice we all should be given and follow. We have lost that rule, we need to reinstate it.

One word, sorry three words.. Amazing amazing amazing Beautifully explained. I think genetic makeup of an individual also has a lot to do with deciding which pathway the immune system takes, alongside the type of antigen and other varied and related factors.

What I don't understand is when APC presents naive cells an ag. They know that if it's a viral particle it should opt for TH1 response, not that "Oh! I have got a lot of viral quantities, I should switch for TH2" and fail the immune system. The same goes if you have a helminth infection, naive won't switch to Th1 for the low presence of antigen from helminth (which usually happens in all helminth infections, it has to activate TH2.

Thanks for explaining this complex topic. Since many fairly asymptomatic folks did display antibodies, I'd consider it likely they had a low infectious dose. Whereas the severe cases ending up with this cytokine storm probably got a larger dose and/or already had a lot of this IL12 floating around due to other underlying conditions. I'd also speculate that these two different pathways might be what causes some vaccines to display the antibody mediated enhancement phenomenon and perhaps even some of the other more common side effects of some if not most vaccines.

Excellent topic , Thank you . Seems kind of obvious that the body in its devine wisdom would select a response according to the level of threat. If this is so why at time is a mistake made by the body. I think it might be the body take a particular pathway only to find along that pathway components missing IE nutrients , minerals or energy requirements so the attack loop gets stuck

Thank you for all you do. You mentioned autoimmunity during the last part of this lecture. In the case of MS, a NIH study indicated lower or possibly dysfunctional T regulatory cells and lower IL10, possibly contributing to the out of control CD8 and increase in inflammation?

Great discussion. Peer reviewed article has come out in a major medical journal that shows T cell immunity and cross T cell immunity for SARS and SARS-2 even 17 years after first SARS infection. There may be a cross reactivity to a virus that infects dogs, cows, rats, and bats. I saw the discussion on John Campbell and the journal is “Nature” Finally, Oxford/Astra Zeneca is one of the few vaccines that works on both pathways. US vaccines are mostly going after the antibody response ( I think you called it T cell 2 pathway) using the spike protein-may be “barking up the wrong tree”. Have a good evening and thank you.

Hi , Dr Been , I have a question in regard of this video. The APC in a case for example an infection with a virus . Could the APC at the same time to take the th1 or the th 2 ways at the same time,or some APC could get a way and other APC COULD GET THE OTHER WAY . Because I think that an infection the two ways are important to fight the infection. Thanks Dr.

***Drbeen would it be possible for you to discuss what treatment you advise for patients with Adrenal Insufficiency. I have not been able to find any clear discussions on this subject. These patients are already immunocompromised and I am wondering if this lecture or the MATH++ protocol would apply to these patients. Many thanks for your excellent lessons.

Dr. Been, I've read several reports on individuals reinfected post vaccination having severe disease requiring intubation, with one case coming out of Dallas, Texas where an individual had severe disease with intubation, recovered and now has severe disease again w/ intubation post vaccination. With the Delta variant causing higher viral loads, what is your opinion on the vaccination combined with high viral loads triggering Th2-type immunopathology.

Does vitamin D help make interleukin 4 and therefore determines the Humoral pathway and the lack of vitamin D takes it the cytotoxic pathway? Thank you so much, lots of food for thought within today's lecture & it may take me a more than a few times watching to understand. Having said that your lectures are wonderful & I always come away having a better understanding of real science. Another thought, if the idea is that the amount of pathogens is a factor in determining which pathway is chosen, then wearing a mask in closed spaces is the way forward for sure. Another thought with regards to the elderly and people with co comorbidities are more at risk from the virus, it maybe that due to an imbalance of something in the body or not present in the body that causes the cytotoxic pathway such as Vitamin D? Or maybe when the virus was pathologiesd ( not sure if that's the right word) it was tested using a particular blood type and this is what makes it select a particular pathway? Obviously I'm just guessing at all of these I've no idea & just thinking out loud.

It is Adenosine - Inosine conversion that decides Th1 or 2 and Coronavirus use Adenosine Deaminase 2 as a receptor. Without that enzyme conversion takes place in hypoxic conditions (anaerobic). The immune system does not appear to have evolved solely out of necessity for immunity: it also regulates oxygenation. Mess with Adenosine Deaminase 1 or 2 and you have Severe Combined Immune Deficiency. This virus has us in a headlock. Adenosine regulates metabolism, it is a hypoxia-sensitive regulator that can tone down immunity (which can affect oxygen transfer in lungs). It is all connected but one must consider the most innate mechanism at work, highly conserved upon which the immune system later evolved.
