This past week another centercab locomotive arrived on the Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad in Portsmouth, RI. This time it is a recently retired United States Navy General Electric 65 tonner from the USN Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This locomotive, numbered USN 65-00566 was built in November of 1940 and previously worked for Yorktown Weapons Center (Yorktown, VA), US Army 7342, and Hercules Power as their #1. The locomotive was overhauled in 2007 at the Montreal, Maine, & Atlantic Railroad at their Derby Shops and appears to be in great shape to this day. Stay tuned for future updates on this locomotive!
The Newport Secondary Rail Line is also home to another former USN Portsmouth, NH switcher in the form of Porter JPEX 7349. Here's a couple videos of that unit in action:
