I don't have a lot of practice with iron sights that's why it takes my really long to get the right sight picture and sight alignment. I'm very used to the dot which is much simpler to aim.

@@gunrobot I have never shot an Open gun but I have shot Production and Carry Optics. Carry Optics shooting being much simpler to execute with fewer mag changes and with only the dot to align with the target rather than front and back sight and the target. I would think that Open shooting would be an even a more simple task with the above advantages, plus mag well (simpler mag changes) , race holster (simpler draws), comp and porting (less muzzle rise) and extra points for Cs and Ds. Not knocking Open just wondering if that's how you experience it.

@@TUCOtheratt yup! your observations of the benefits of Open is spot on. It is faster on all of those areas a little but everything adds up. The hard thing about Open, is being 100% efficient and consistent in everything you do and being able to control your limbs and mind at those speeds.

I believe it's because it's a sport. Just like driving, you don't drive your daily Subaru in a race track, you tend to spend hard earned cash to drive something that goes fast and more appropriate to the sport.

@@gunrobot Perhaps sport is the operative word. Not practical. If it was practical (and affordable), there would be 100 million competitive shooters in this country, which there are not.
