I've only watched the first season of Discovery. I have to admit this clip makes me want to go back, specifically because they named a starship Tikhov after the Soviet astronomer Gavriil Adrianovich Tikhov, who first coined the term 'astrobiology' in 1953. It's not believable or plausible that nothing on discovery was ever documented. Realistically they would have reasonably recorded every measure needed to recreate the spore drive, hence the introduction of such a thing doesn't make it feel like Star Trek because it's so dumb. The entire Voyager arc would have been averted.

@ElysaraCh
@ElysaraCh Ай бұрын
@@thanhavictus They never solved the problem of needing a compatible navigator, and after the whole business with Control, they decided it was the wisest course of action to just deeply classify the tech (under threat of prosecution for treason) so no one wound up looking into it further. It's literally explained in the show. No other Tardigrades were ever found (and also, using a Tardigrade was harmful to the creatures), what Stamets did to become a compatible navigator is highly illegal and he only got away with it because of Discovery being a black ops ship + the special circumstances around their missions, and presumably, Kweijan as a warp-capable civilization doesn't exist yet in the intervening centuries so using one of them as a navigator wouldn't be something anyone would investigate in the ~100 years or so that people are still alive that knew of Discovery and its tech. It IS valid to point out that no other astromycologist ever emerged after Stamets, but it's very plausible that Section 31 stamped out any potentials in that field since, again, the tech was incomplete and nearly useless without a navigator. Like, really, even putting a little bit of thought into it, it makes more than enough sense. There's not even that much need for suspension of disbelief.

Krall would be too obsessed with killing aliens to do much to reunify Humanity. Actually, considering that there were aliens among the UEDF inspection team that boarded Discovery at Earth, he would probably be enraged that United Earth apparently allowed alien residents to remain after the Burn, rather than slaughtering them. He would be even more appalled to see them in UEDF uniforms.

How this scene wouldve created tension in TNG: Intense back and forth between various bridge crew, exploring options, underlaid with quiet, but tense music. Wesley: We've arrived at the coordinates of the Tikhov, but I don't have it on sensors. Data: However, there is an ion storm in the area. It is possible the Tikhov is inside. Picard: Can you scan the ion storm for the Tikhov, Mr. Data? Data: Scanning. There is no indication of the Tikhov, but the ion storm is interfering with sensor operation. It is still possible that the Tikhov is inside, and that we cannot detect her. Picard: Very well. I'm open to suggestions. Riker: We could take the ship inside the ion storm, see if we can find the Tikhov that way. Data: The ion storm discharges exceed 200 terrajoule. Even with full shields we would last at most thirtyseven minutes. Also transporters will not operate inside the ion storm, meaning we will need to tractor the Tikhov out before beaming. Picard: *briefly ponders* Very well. Riker: Yellow alert! Mr. Crusher, bring us into the ion storm, one quarter impulse. Mr. Data, plot a search pattern. Mr. Worf, raise shields! Riker to Engineering, Geordi, I want everything we have routed into the shields, we're going into that ion storm. Geordi (over comms): Aye, but it will be one hell of a roller coaster. [Stock footage of the Enterprise flying away laid over a matte ion storm background accompanied by tense music before it cuts to the ad break] How Discovery Trek creates tension: Give the helmswoman a random PTSD attack in the middle of piloting and let the navigator who may or may not have lesbian hots for her give her a pep-talk.

Shhh, let the fresh arts majors find their way. Early TNG was CRINGE compared to what it became.
@builder396
@builder396 3 жыл бұрын
@@Synthmilk Even then, it was never THAT bad. I mean, individual episodes lacked in equality and were in hindsight really bad, including some well meant but badly executed progressive pandering against racism and other issues of the time, that just didnt work. But at least people were generally giving their best and the show was improving greatly by season 3. Discovery has finished season 3, and if anything it has gotten worse. Season 1 had every excuse to be a little all over the place, Season 2 got better with quality legacy characters, even if it still had most issues, mainly Michael-Mary-Su-Syndrome, and Season 3 is just being back to being utter chaos and disaster in terms of quality and canonical consistency. And there is no sign its getting any better. I mean, Michael Burnhams character development was demonstrating how absolutely arrogant and stubborn she is by assuming everyone around her is too dumb to see the obvious truth about the Klingons to the point of feeling justified to gamble hundreds of lives on it by staging a mutiny, then 5 minutes of regret on a shuttle, and from then onward every situation has been meticulously tailored for Michael to be the hero, by sheer incompetence of anyone around her mostly, and then getting every promotion and medal thrown at her for pretty much no reason other than people above her in the command chain dropping out for any number of convenient reasons, until she became captain. But as a character, she never developed. In fact, in one discussion in Season 2 she perfectly demonstrates she is still the same green arrogant little brat she was during the pilot by interrupting Pike himself mid-sentence to declare that exploring the motive of the Red Angel is a waste of time. Not because its illogical, in fact its very logical to do that, but just because SHE thinks its a waste of time, and all the other dumb brain-damaged morons in the room should finally realize that before she loses her patience and stages the next mutiny. Its only by the grace of the writers that everyone actually entertained that notion rather than giving her a reprimand right then and there. And as long as the writers treat Michael like that, the series will stay horrible. (oh, and please fix other issues as well, especially stop turning the insides of ships into Coruscant)

Where did the Federation and Starfleet moved their facilities and ships since Earth calls a 'quit' from the Federation? And is it possible for Earth to rejoin the Federation?
@daniels7907
@daniels7907 3 жыл бұрын
They're hiding in open space behind a cloaking field. United Earth quit precisely because being the Federation capital attracted too much trouble and post-Burn Starfleet lacked the resources to defend them. UE could rejoin if they wanted to. But for now they're so isolationist that they didn't even know that 1/3 of the colony on Saturn's moon Titan was wiped out in an industrial accident.

Yellow alert just means ship in possible danger, be prepared. Even in TNG, they frequently said "shields up, red alert!" so the alert status does not always definitely mean activate defensive systems.

I would have expected a somewhat larger ship if it's carrying samples of plants from every known world at the time. Something else why have it that only the crew can unlock the vaults? What is they had all died? You would think Star Fleet would have access codes for in an emergency like this?
@daniels7907
@daniels7907 3 жыл бұрын
They probably did when they first created the seed vault centuries before the Burn. Given that there aren't Starfleet ships on regular patrols anymore, those tasked with maintaining the vault were probably allowed to update the authentication each time a different member took over tending to it.

A little bit of chaotic dialog. That's badass. That's new. It was never chaotic. You'd never think anyone might act independently or even question the captain. This is MUCH better scripted than the old stuff. This feels real, raw. New. Star Trek is always trying to new things up, and it fails often enough. But each series, they gotta be like, ok, we're starting a new one, and... it's in the future! And they make the future of the future seem badass. But then there'll need to be a future of that in the next show, so... Wait a minute, how many futures of the future is too many and fans will be like, "what?" They keep making the next future even more futuristic and awesome. Then they did a retro future with that guy from the time traveling series... So they've done future-future and retro-future, and then there's commander Pike that got 3xfuture. And then this, which I think pretty much all fans would agree is 4xfuture. There might have been a bomb or two totally throwing off the count, but fuck'em... not every Star Trek series is even memorable. Boo, take that! May you always hire only the best writers!
