This video depicts River Rouge and Delray (Southwest Detroit) industrial areas.
There have been complaints about noise coming from Zug Island, but at least while on the water the noise seems typical and more noticeable from the River River Rouge area.

Thank you so much for posting. My dad worked at GLS Zug Island for 32 years, and he passed away there also. Thanks for the memory, very much appreciated.

You're welcome. I drove through there a million times. I remember the concrete flower pots getting placed along West Jefferson for the 1976 Republican convention. Some are still there. The good old days, double shifts, overtime...........it seemed like it would never end. Thanks.

Great videos Tom. Ive always been interested in the industrialization of Zug. There is no up close and personal videos of this place until now. I bet the environmental catastrophe that takes place there keeps them very alert to visitors. Im digging the new boat videos. Gives everything a different perspective. Thanks Tom.

Thanks. I'll do a better job next time. It's hard to see through the viewfinder and steer at the same time. I learned doing it alone doesn't work so well.

I worked at that plant for a short time, straight ahead of you @ 0:33. Had high hopes for that job, it was a good size plant.

I drove a coal truck there in the early 1970s and the coal dust was hellish. Thankfully I don't have "black lung".

Looks great ... as to the sound of Zug island the mystery of it is that the sound didn't exist before 2011...the steel making process there has not changed much even when USS took over (2007). It's been basically running for a 100 years and no sound until 2011...so that is the mystery. Why now? Why not then? These are the questions that have no answers. There has been a lot of guessing....and it might not be Zug Island, or it might be a combination of a few other factors that have not yet been looked at. There is basically no real security there anymore. They fired the security company and erased all traces of them ..they may have hired the security associates company...but I think it's possible that homeland security is now doing their security to a greater degree. What I do have to say though is that it is not a normal iron producing facility...They will see you, and you will be recorded.. but they have layed off any aggressive attitude they once had since I started my documentary.

You're correct. I never see security from Zug Island any longer. I may take the boat around here again this upcoming week. If you want any area videotaped or photographed let me know. Thanks. Tom I think the hum is typical from a large steel producing facility that has sound travel without obstruction over water. Lucky (a poor adjective) for Windsor is that the wind doesn't blow directly out of the north all that often.

Oh yea, the "hum" is just the sounds of the furnaces being turned to high temperature for special steel manufacture.

I worked there for many years - retiring from the mill - my job for the longest time was Vibration Analysis - I am not familiar with the vibration you are referring to - if this was an ongoing vibration.. we would have picked it up - it could be a resonance from many things

Patricia Pesta Could be from a vac truck as they make an unruly amount of low and high frequency noise and theres at least one or two of them running 24/7.

I wish it was possible that you could do this at night, while the lights are aglow. I know you can't, but it'd just be cool if you could. I'm oddly fascinated by the look of Zug Island at night.

I have a lot of video at night but all are on the north side with the exception of one. I had a boat I bought specifically to video Zug Island and sold it after I took the one trip. If you search Zug Island meets Mother Nature a few years ago you'll find a front page article in the Detroit News where a photographer, journalist and myself took the the one boat trip I referenced.

I had an accident ( a near-death experience) with a molten steel tank car. Ruined my "uncles" Mak 5 tractor and they put me in a dodgy International 15 speed. Had nightmares for a while but added it to life experience Hello Bob Coates!.

It's low frequency. It's heavy and travels in the ground. When you turn powerful transformers on they vibrate and you feel it. Like going to a loud concert where the bass is turned up.
