I'm American and support the US women but I'm also partial to Costa Rica having spent alot of time there. CR's goalkeeper made some great saves and kept them in it. That small country probably spends next to nothing on their female national team but they still show up and play. A draw is actually a pretty big result for them against the US.

Horan as a number 10 is not going to work. She's too slow going forward. She needs to stay as a central midfielder.

A draw is considered a Victory for Costa Rica because they defended very well against constant attacks by the US and the goal keeper made many wonderful saves. The current US National Team does not play as well as their previous National Teams. What a shame!

Emma Hayes's first mistake as a USWNT manager was not bringing in more attacking midfielders. Ashley Sanchez and Croix Bethune would be excellent subs for Lavelle.

I dont know what s going on. Years before the uswnt scored five or six goals. Now it is impossible. I am longing for Press, Lloyd, Heath, Morgan, Rapinoe, Macario and Sanchez

About the midfield: WNT can't win this tournament by playing both Coffee and Horan with Albert on the bench. Gonna need Albert's energy, endurance, and speed. By tournament end, Albert will be starting. I just hope it's not too late.

This didn't look like the 0-0 teams of before that created no chances and could barely maintain possession. This scoreline could have been like 4-0 US if not for a bit of bad luck and/or exceptional keeping from Costa Rica. The US team looks strong heading into the Olympics.

The US of old would of scored, this team is not good , if you have an abundance of chances and you can’t put those in the back of the net , your not good… simple as that ..

For a little perspective, #1 Spain lost to #30 Czechia 2-1. Stuff happens. That’s why they play the games. If Costa Rica had any intention of mounting attacks they likely would have been massacred. They essentially played defense all night. Their goalie also played very well. We actually scored a couple of times but were called offside.

This was just a friendly match so I’m not going to be as critical. It is hard to wrap my mind around the score just a tad when CR we’re never ever playing to attack, they just sat deep back and never made a real run. The USWNT could have camped out at the top of the 18th and could have made a run after run after run with no problem, CR we’re never going to counter. The USWNT had 18 corners to CR having not one. The USWNT had what felt like 90% possession and were having a hard time making logical decisions at runs. Ok that’s all for that. My main moment of a tiff was not seeing Rose Lavelle on the pitch 😢. The USWNT need her runs, passes and pure grit to always attack, attack, attack. She is the teams press machine and you’ll notice that from the USWNT vs Mexico. The run Smith scored on started on the thread of a pass from Rose Lavelle to Rodman. She is a beast at the midfield position and the CR game made that very evident.

After this game, USA stands for yoU Suck Again. I hope the current team realizes how great their predecessors really were and how far short they are falling. Megan Rapinoe at her peak put corner kicks on other players' heads; she did not just send a hopeful ball across the box. Rose Lavelle was sorely missed; most of the through passes were too long and too hard. The ladies kept going to the middle instead of the corner (and crowding it trying to get out of each other's way) that Costa Rica could easily predict and defend. Swanson, Smith, and Rodman (on paper) are a dream team, but they are going to have to bring their A game to the Olympics. Last night was not it.

Emma Hayes should let the great American champions play as they always have. A 0-0 scoreline against the 44th-ranked team does not reflect the USNWT's true potential. Not sure how that disallowed goal was offsides. Horan strikes - and there are two Costa Rica players between the US players and the goal. How was that offsides??

She's probably had more good looks at goals in the last 4 games than anybody else in the history of the USWNT with the worst % ever. The US doesn't even have one class A player on the team.
