My dad used to play Mehdi hassan songs on his van radio on long trips to markets when I was around 18 years old, but i never understood this music and i used to put fingers in my ears or put my headphones on and listen to my music on my Walkman. 32 years down the line, just by chance I found this you tube video. I am now mesmerised by this great artist. Oh dad, you were right and i was wrong and I'm so sorry.

In 1976 my friend had some cassettes of selected gazal where I listened this . Now after elapsing of 47-48 yrs suddenly I noticed this KZfaq and become messmerised by recalling my past life.I love Mehdi Hasan Sahab...

Without going through the rigours of very stiff training schedule('REWAZ'), it's not possible to scale the level of excellence which the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had scaled during his lifetime. The great Khan Saab had himself admitted about the same quite a number of times on quite a number of occasions in live interviews available through KZfaq. Once the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had himself said that under the strict supervision of his father, Ustad Azam Khan, his 'REWAZ'' (Rehearsal) starts right at 2AM daily for hours on end, Apart from 'REWAZ', he was required to attend 'AKHARAS'( Gymnastics classes) on daily basis in the wee hours of the day to keep himself physically and mentally strong. Needless to say that one must have enough courage of conviction, sincerity of purpose and unwavering devotion to his work so as to achieve the level of success that the great Khan Saab had achieved during his illustrious career spanning over almost six decades as an exceptional exponent of ghazal gayiki! Besides, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had something heavenly in his voice which made him so unique! Perhaps, the great ALLAH MIYAH had bestowed upon the great Mehdi Hassan Saab all the attributes that a great singer should have!

Have been listening to the great singer and composer for more than half a century now. I am a senior citizen and a great music lover. My dad used to sing ghazals and used to ask us to listen and understand. I also sing his ghazals like,Ranjish hi sahi, baat karani mujhe mushqil, gulon me rang bhare,..( In the mehfil of friends).I have read Urdu at school level but have to go to dictionary for the words from Persian and Arabic. Understanding the meaning of all the words used by Shayar gives the real feel and it is necessary also. Have listened to the great maestro live, twice at Shimla summer festival. A great legend. No match.Can,t be described in words, one has to feel only...Great.
