Interesting! My husband and I visited Prague in 1989 (August) just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was fascinating. Then in 1995-96 we returned and lived in Usti Nad Labem for one year (he did a Fulbright exchange and I also taught school in Usti). A young Czech family lived in our home in Detroit and we lived in their flat on Beethovenova in Usti. I haven't been back since about 2000 and much was already changed at that time. I'm planning a visit to Usti in October 2024 to see friends I made while living there. This bought back many memories and I am looking forward to the upcoming visit.

I stayed for 6 months for Erasmus. It was a wonderful time. It is a small city but we had the chance to live and meet people from different nations. It has a wonderful nature and the city as a whole build has been influenced by the ussr

Glad you enjoyed. When I made these recordings it was primarily for my mother (here in Canada) and her friends who grew up in the Europe before the Iron Curtain. Glad now I also gave people a look at their own past as well.

It's interesting documentary. The classic squary, articulated trolleybuses are now being phased out completely. Last year it was Brno and only one other city will remain.

🙏🏻děkuji Vám za vzpomínkové video “starého Ústí n.L. Tak “špinavě”, když bylo deštivo, Ústí vypadalo… z Polikliniky je EUClinika, vedle navazuje DoctusClinik; …. Dům kultury je renovován; na Mírovém nám., postavena ČSOBanka-dříve od r. 1990 Investiční banka…ve které za totality sídlil KV KSČ. Nyní z rohu “banky” vchod do vietnamské prodejny a uvnitř sídlí firmy… změnilo se nám TO město k lepšímu? večer se neodvážíte přejít Mírové nám. a okolí, ještě jednou děkuji 👍🍀marcela ÚL

amazing! I was 5 yrs old that time, still remember this old face of Usti.. actually the creepy stairs going uphill from Masarykova along the big steam tubes is still there :)

I'm glad you made this video. I was living there at the time. The country would be Czechoslovakia for another month and a half before becoming The Czech Republic.

Mě se zrovna Ústí teď moc nelíbí. Všechno je chaotické, zastavěné, samý beton, žádná zeleň.. V roce 1992 jsem se narodil, takže si to takhle nepamatuju ale přišlo mi tedy hezčí dřív, než teď..

Jo, to bylo staré, zlaté Ústí! MHD dobře fungovala, zastávky byly prostorné, provoz na silnicích podstatně slabší, zaparkovat bylo kde, stály obě tržnice...

Thank you Manfred, this is now indeed an historic documentary now, and is being used as a resource for local museum you've also documented on video. Nobody here viewed the town in a way you have. The town went through many changes, and without this video, it would be barely comparable and appreciated. Take care, Ustí!

Mate you just made my day! How on earth did you end up in Usti back in 1992? You have caught the building I was living at. I can even see the balcony. Have you got more of videos of Usti except for the one's on YT?

Sorry the three or four I posted of Usti are it. Here's how I ended up there.A friend of my mother's here in Canada grew up there as a German, and came to Canada in the 1950s. During one of my visits back to Canada (I was living in Berlin at the time) we got to talking and she described me as best as she could remember where she lived and so during my next visit I tried to see if I could find her area. Showed her the footage during next time home but she wasn't sure if was right area or not. But glad I filmed your building so ended up with some familiarity (but she did find watching the video very interesting)
