Concerto for piano (1946), recorded live in Vredenburg Utrecht in 2010.
Concerto is dedicated to Alexei Lubimov.
Conductor - Reinbert de Leeuw, Piano - Alexei Lubimov,
Director - Rob van der Berg, The Netherlands (2010).

At the end, it's a C Major chord in the piano and strings, with the timpani ostinato of G-Dflat-C-G. This is the only piece I've ever heard where the timpani is the voice adding a non-chord tone, creating the dissonance. And as sonically unlikely as that seems on paper, she articulates it pretty clearly. Very impressive; definitely warranted a bunch of rewinds.

It's so pity that I never heard her music before, I even never heard about Galina Ustvolskaya, but still I'm so lucky I came across her music absolutely occasionally. I suspect I've discovered one more new university to have it for the rest of my life 😊 Seriously.

I only found out about her through grad school. we were studying her piano sonatas. No. 6 is tremendous!

A beautiful, hypnotic concerto that carries a similar power and expression to her later works. I thought it would be completely different from say Symphony No.2, but I was surprised at the similar spiritual world the concerto inhabits...it's terrific...:-)

@18:22 the gentleman directly behind the pianist's head knows how the music ends. You can see his head gesture upwards as the phrase concludes!

Mary que maravilla pues no parece que el piano me ha estado hablaY o lo veo como una persona, ndo , empezando desde el principio con mal humor , despues pasar al dialogo y lo mas me ha gustado al final como se despide.con pasos ligeros . Te digo que si tienes que rardae u envia estas maravillas por mi parte lo prefiero. Un saludo muy cariñoso

Really? This is just plain awful. Listen to the two Shostakovich Piano Concertos with Lenny playing the second. That is truly moving , not this warmed over crap!

Shostakovich is "a dull, mediocre composer" (Shostakovich on himself). Ustvolskaya agreed.

Отвечу по-русски. Только что с Карнеги Холл, где этот К-т исполнил Люка Дебарг. Полностью с Вами согласна. Потуги на многозначительность. Пианист старался, но это не спасло сочинение...(имхо)///Сейчас послушала для сравнения эту версию. Мне этот оркестр понравился больше, чем американский. Но при всей любви к пианисту Любимову, все равно скажу: музыка "тупиковая" какая-то. Надуманная. Нужно сделать скидку на незрелость автора. А вот что она писала о Д. Ш.: " Уствольская о Шостаковиче Я пишу эту заметку для того, чтобы, наконец, утвердилась ПРАВДА в отношении моих отношений с Д. Д. Шостаковичем. И утвердилась ПРАВДА о самом Шостаковиче как композиторе и человеке. Я ничего подробно не пишу. Слишком далеко могли бы увести подробности... Но прочитавший мою заметку не сможет не сдвинуться с той многолетней, непоколебимой, тупой точки во взглядах на облик Д. Д. Шостаковича. Со своей стороны я бы хотела сказать: никогда, ни в какие времена, даже в учебные годы в Консерватории, которые я проводила в классе Дмитрия Дмитриевича, его музыка мне не была близка, как и сама личность Дмитрия Дмитриевича. Я бы жёстче сказала: резко не принимала его музыку, как и в последующие годы, и, к сожалению, сама личность Дмитрия Дмитриевича только усугубляла моё тяжелое, отрицательное отношение к нему. Подробно писать на эту тему я считаю не нужно. Одно остаётся очевидным: такая, казалось бы, выдающаяся фигура, как Шостакович, для меня не являлась выдающейся, - наоборот, тяготила и убивала мои лучшие чувства. I enjoy both immensely and play both, and read their appraisals of themselves with skepticism. Ust. claimed she had no influences, which is totally impossible even in theory as well as audibly false, and DDS called himself mediocre, which I with the bulk of classical listeners would vehemently dispute regarding many of his works (not all). Again, very very grateful for both. And to you @channel391 for uploading!
