So, this was my first map in first Combat Mission game ever. I've just chose the smallest one, with smallest number of forces. I haven't got the pre-battle intelligence, though. Managed to destroy AARs, but it took to long, and the BTR has come...Got it with lucky AT4 shot, but got surrounded by remaining infantry in plain field. All my people, except HQ got wiped out. I've tried to evacuate HQ team across the river and it also got shot at. So the only survivor left was the platoon commander! That poor bastard was walking back trough the woods at night, exhausted, alone with no ammo, just one grenade left. Such a devastating feeling that must have been for him - to loose all his man and be the only one who survived. I thought that if I was him I would probably just blow myself with that grenade, out of shame. Got hooked on the game since that)))

That's quite a great war story. The line between heroic victories and embarrassing defeats is indeed thin as you actually inflicted more damages to Russians than this vid. Only if you could exfiltrated faster :(

i noticed that i care alot about my pixeltruppen's when the battle is smaller. like the case of sergeant mac'laren that guy was the only competent guy in the map, with a +2 leadership and high morale. i managed to clear out most of the enemy forces in the bocages(out numbered!) with his squad and all,and then at the end of a turn just as i was crosing a road,some hidden sausage eater with a mg 42 decide to ruin my day and wipe out my entire squad.mac was the first one to get hit,but not only that he got k.i.a instantly .after that i send a squad to flank the sausage eater and he and his buddy decided to surrender but i was not taking that. i did a area target that wiped them 2 out. rip mac'laren you always will be remembered.

Never a disappointment. Your work is fantastic, as someone who plays the game and works in TV, I have to say the amount of effort you put in to get every shot you need each turn and then editing them all together is really amazing. Really a highlight of my day when more of your content comes out. Let’s us know if you ever want to do community games/matches :D

This illustrates the uncertainty of any engagements. One of the first things any proper Infantry Officer's course teaches is that no OPLAN survives past contact. You used the layout of the terrain to find the best approach, and theorize where the enemy might deploy, split your unit into smaller pieces to cover more ground, and were willing to pull out to preserve your forces when combat favored the OPFOR. Its nice to see smaller engadments, as a table top wargamer its always fun to play scenarios where your forces safety is paramount.

Black sea was my first combat mission game and we all have a soft spot for our first..... but the last 3 weeks puts a whole different perspective on it...for instance .... those are not russian patrols roaming around they are a few drunk russians staggering around wondering if this is the farmer that stole their vehicle earlier ... and if it is ... will he give them sandwich for it

Well played and presented as usual Hap. I really like these smaller more thoughtful mission scenarios over the larger ones, and particular liked this one since it can be handled real time (the real real time where you don't pause) as well for a different CM experience compared to WEGO. I think larger scenarios are not as pleasurable straight real time since it's a bit too much to handle with CM's complexity compared to other real time games. I look forward to Battlefront improving the games real time experiencing in the future hopefully to expand to real time with multiple players with each player controlling a platoon to work together. Would be a blast, and unique experience!

Hapless, would you be able to do a video on the Combat Mission Black Sea scenario Valley of Death? I have never been able to win that mission as the US and all the videos I have seen make it seem that a US victory is almost an impossible task.

I opted for a full-on assault for this scenario and managed to destroy the AAA and the security detail while only taking 5 casualties (3 of which were from the scout team blowing their cover on turn 1 because I didn't know about target arcs). The enfilading position from the other side of the stream is quite powerful, and I found (accidentally) that it's perfectly viable to annihilate infantry concentrations with Javelins and take out the SAMs with rifle grenades. I think it speaks to the US's huge advantage in nighttime light infantry combat that even a scrub like me with a half-thought out plan was still able to secure a total victory

Modern, first-rate Russian motorized company is equipped with helmet-mounted NODs and ground-surveillance radars, not to mention their IFVs with thermal sights. I think infiltrating behind the front while evading those units is already a great victory.

Have you ever gone into detail about what exactly the hide command does, how it works, and when/how to use it? I just realized I don't really know anything about it at all. I mean, it sounds obvious but CM commands can work in mysterious ways sometimes.
@usuallyhapless9481
@usuallyhapless9481 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. So the quick version is: on Hide troops will... keep their heads down. This reduces spotting and they will try and hold fire. If you have a unit on Hide with a Target Arc, it'll hide until it spots something inside it's arc, then open fire, so it's good for ambushes.
