Utica Mayor Michael Galime met with members of Utica's Karen community to answer their questions about Friday's fatal shooting of a 13-year-old by UPD officers.

How are the officers to know if the 13 year old teen had a real gun or not? Why did he have a fake gun? Why did he avoid arrest and fight with the officers and pull out the gun? Why was he out late at night? The teen was armed with a realistic looking gun, fled from the police and at one point, on video, points the weapon at police. These are the consequences. Law enforcement is to keep the community safe. How are they to know if this was a real gun or not? You never point a gun at anyone period, real or not. The parents need to change by being responsible and accountable, not the police. This young man was heading towards a life of juvenile delinquency and crime, and he made a dangerous choice. Shame on the parents.

Yes the teen was in the wrong running away from police with a replica gun in his hand but didn't you find it strange that after the shooting, Officer Hansay claimed he thinks it was a Glock 22 after checking the chamber when you can clearly see in the body cam that it was not a real firearm? I find it ridiculous that someone who handles firearms on a daily basis can't tell whether a Glock is real or not after a chamber check.

This is ridiculous. Can you imagine if these people were upset that their youth were out committing violent felonies. They are only angry that one of their own was held accountable, which is of course racist.

How can you say he was out committing violent felonies he came back from bible study he got the BB gun maybe to protect himself since he walking back home at night. The police shouldn’t shoot when he already on the ground he is just 13 year old kid and even the other police officers was shocked that he shot the kid.

Don’t matter if they carry gun or not. The kid already on the grown and the officer on top on him punch him. Already why the other officer just came behind the officer and kneeling down and shot him. That wrong. Kids already detain why shot him. What of that was your child. What would you do.

First of he was not detained yet yes he was on the ground but they were on the ground struggling with each other and he still have his hand on the faked gun that's why the police that tackled him punch him so he could let go of the faked gun then the second officer came up running towards them and saw the faked gun on his hand he had a few seconds to make a decision either to shoot the suspect with a gun on his hand or take risk of his partner getting shot. Unfortunately for the kid he chose to saved his partner

The mayor and the police needs to be held accountable. They need to make this right for the family. No mother should lose their child over a toy gun.

The parents need to be held accountable. They need to make better choices in raising their kids. No mother should allow her 13 year old son to run around late at night with counterfeit guns, and pulling them out on police officers while resisting arrest.

@@KayceDah he was not under control they were struggling on the ground and he still have his hand on the replica gun that's the reason why he punched him to get him under control but couldn't so the second officer only had second to make a decision to shoot or not to shoot.
