This week marks one year since 19 students and two teachers were killed in a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. In that time, victims’ families say they have not received sufficient answers from authorities as to why they waited 77 minutes before breaching the classroom. In today’s episode, we hear why CNN agreed to show some parents unreleased body camera footage and examine how surviving students are coping.

I can't imagine being one of the children that survived this massacre. Not only did they lose their friends and have to witness that themselves, they were tortured for nearly 80 minutes waiting for law enforcement to put an end to it Being part of a shooting like this would change your life forever regardless, but the thought of having to endure that torture for over an hour is too much :(

The Uvalde cops are not "cowards," because "cowardice" is not a real condition. It's a label we apply to situations that we think would have turned out better with more risk-taking. Situations vary and so does risk tolerance. What the cops were was *undutiful.* They didn't know their duty and that IS a permanent condition, or at least an enduring one which yields only to discipline. Cops throughout America are undisciplined; that's why we see so many instances of them behaving badly. And in a sense, who can blame them? It's not that they don't go to police school, or have a "book" to go by, or have experienced leadership, but political officials, erratic judges, system-wise lawyers, police unions, all muddy the waters of what is Right. It's no wonder that at every scene of tragedy most of the police are just standing around not knowing what to do. Individually, any of those cops might have performed bravely (or they might not, but we can't know). In a mob, though, they behaved like anyone else in a mob, waiting for Somebody Else to take charge. Maybe you think police should be better than that, better than a random gaggle of passersby. So do I, but we can't expect that of them if we don't train them and hold them accountable for their training. Most police get into that line of work because they enjoy confrontation and being dominating. If they didn't, they wouldn't be much good at it, but it's not enough.

It doesn’t matter what’s going on in the world. We are all still born with a number to be slaves and work most of our lives only for most of it to be taken out of our checks leaving us little to get by to make us keep working. Maybe you've just never been in a position that involved enough risk to understand what bravery and cowardice are. Having been in combat more than a few times, I've seen both, and they are very real. And as for "unditiful" they absolutely DID know their duty. They swore an oath when they first put on the badge. They all graduated an academy. They CHOSE not to do their duty. The more reports you read about what actually took place inside that elementary school and the cowardice of those lol officials who did not even try to rescue those children the more your heart aches for the families who lost their loved ones Plus, the students who were seriously injured, and one way or another both physically and mentally. the cops straight up caused more children to die that day than would have if there had been no cops. it would have taken the parents less than those 77 minutes to shoot the guy if the cops had not stopped them, and fewer victims would have died of their wounds if they had gotten help faster. there also was that one genius cop who called for survivors to shout, and the one girl that did immediately got killed for it (apparently the shooter was just loitering for most of the time, and acting as if anybody playing dead actually was dead, but the cop asked them to stop playing dead despite there being no immediate plan for the cops to enter the classrooms).

I wouldn’t blame these poor kids,they just cannot,trust law enforcement to protect them ever again.!They are traumatised for the rest of their lives now,just like the military,who are dealing with the same issues returning from war.!! I agree….American woman, living in Spain for 30 years…..looking at what my country has become, is sometimes too much for me…I left in a time where this was not a “norm”….and live in a country where ppl do not need or have guns….I am literally afraid to come to the States to visit 🤯 Imagine being scared to visit your own country….

I am so sorry that these families have had to endure not just the thoughts of 19 students and two teachers being killed by the failure of the police to confront the government but also those children who will never forget what happened that day, but if they have sustained injuries from having been shot, or they are having problems like sleeping or they said, the one child wears where’s your phones because the child cannot stand any noise. We will never know what these children who are so traumatized what problems they will have in the future. Nobody took any responsibility for what happened. The fact that there have been more mass shootings and days in the year is a terrible thing to contemplate. They did say that some police officers and heads of school security were forced to resign or some took early retirement. I realize it takes courage to face, and a shooter with one of those military assault rifles yes. The state of Texas seems more concerned with abortion. Then they do is protecting their citizens.

With over 207 mass shootings in under 140 days. That's just this year 2023 alone we are averaging just under 1.5 per day. If this pace continues the full year we will have over 500 mass shootings and over 2,400 dead and or injured persons. You don't forget them you are adding more and more daily!

That number is the firearms confirmed through the 4473 background check system. That system was set up in 1993. Prior to that the FBI estimated there were 450,000,000-500,000,000 firearms in US citizens hands. There is no defense for law enforcement that day. If you accept employment as a police officer, you ARE accepting risk and committing to protect the people of your jurisdiction - and really all people. It is no different from enlisting or accepting a commission in the armed forces. You are accepting combat risk and committing to defend our nation. No matter who was in that building, refusing to enter was breaking the societal contract under which you swore an oath. That alone means you ARE NOT cops, and yes, you should all turn in your badges. The fact that it was small children at risk means you are all cowards and do not deserve to continue walking this earth. You traded in the life of a child so that you did not have to be in danger yourself. I hope you feel the weight of that guilt every single day you continue to draw breath. I'm a 30 year veteran with multiple combat tours. For me, this is not hypothetical. I know what I'm talking about. I've saved lives - and had my own life saved - because my brothers and sisters and I took our oath seriously and were willing to do our job when it mattered. Today, I thank GOD almighty that none of the people who my life depended on were as cowardly as those officers. Do not defend them. They were in uniform to suck up a paycheck and nothing more, and those little babies paid the price, and their families will continue to pay the price for the rest of their lives. I hope the courts choose to suspend qualified immunity for them, because qualified immunity is supposed to be for officers taking action in the line of duty, not officer refusing to do their duty.

I am sure that there are some things that children heard and saw that they probably will never be able to discuss with their parents. I do not blame the mothers for one interview. Yes video. because at least they might have some idea of the trauma their children experienced. A little boy, who wears headphones to block out noise. The little girl who looks for all the exes when they go to any restaurant the children who were severely injured. These are things they will never forget, unfortunately None of us know how this will affect them in the future

Thank you Simon(sp?). I can't understand this, so I know the Children and Families cannot possibly grasp this nightmare. But they need ALL the information to have any hopes of dealing with it. It is unfair. I just find it quite frankly, disgusting that they are being treated this way. I had no idea this was going on. I stupidly assumed (I'm sorry parents) that this was resolved as best as possible. I'm appalled that this has come no further and that the parents of any child in that school is being denied any and all information requested. This needs a Federal investigation and that person withholding vital information, probably protecting her own loved ones or friends, needs to face criminal charges. Do these Families need an attorney? We can raise funds to help them. This should be on the National radar. I am beyond grateful that YOU have stuck with this and fought for this when they can't. I thank you and CNN for speaking out. I had given up on CNN now for hiring a gossip queen, Gayle King, but YOU and your brilliant work have given me a shred of hope that there is still news available in mainstream America. I cannot believe that Pete Arodondo(sp?) Is not in prison for life. HE caused the deaths of many of those children that day and does not deserve to have a life. Sorry, had to say that. That is true, body camera footage is owned by the agency it originates from. They are not under any legal obligation to release the footage to the general public. Is that stance suspicious? Yes.

We have to continue to remember that this school was a gun free zone. The school was protected by one of the common sense gun laws that we put in place several years ago and was one of Senator Joe Biden’s signature pieces of legislation. Then Senator Biden touted this legislation as a law that would keep school safe. We know now that, “gun free zones”, have become some of the most dangerous places in the United States. The zones include schools, theaters, grocery stores, shopping centers, college campuses, and any other place that has the gun free zone, sign or decal on their door. These gun free zones are danger. Zones now, because criminals are confident that no honest person within these gun free zones will have a means to defend themselves. For your own personal safety, beware of gun, free zones.
