This is a special video. I was in Texas for New Year's and in the area of Uvalde, Texas, and felt like I had to stop by and check it out. Recently, Uvalde was in the news because of a horrific school shooting on May 24, 2022. I wanted to stop and pay my respects, but I also wanted to learn more about the town and history of the area. In this video I talk about several aspects of Uvalde's history and show a bunch of historic places. Later in the video I video Robb Elementary School, the site of the tragedy.

I loved the beautiful murals on the buildings ! I lost my 21 year old son almost 16 years ago in Iraq. The loss of a child is the most painful nightmare a parent can go through. Thank you for sharing this!

I was there about a month after the incident. It was very somber. You could still smell the scent of all the flowers. I sobbed like a baby. Very heartbreaking.

I'm a Coach in East Texas. Our doors swing shut now and lock. I got locked out of my class this year when I stepped in the hall for a sec. The kids were so loud they couldn't hear me pounding. When a janitor opened it a few moments later everyone was still working on their skills...whew. Uvalde changed everything. What a beautiful downtown btw

I wondered what would happen to the school. I'm glad it's going to be demolished. The kids need to heal. As much as can be healed anyway. Being an angel mom myself, under different circumstances, I feel for the parents. I always think of what my daughter would've done in her older teen and early adult years. Would she have chosen to be an engineer? Would she be graduating from WSU this year? They will also have some questions as parents. A reminder of the evil this world harbors. On another note though, Uvalde reminds me of some of our Kansas small towns to the west. Have a great weekend.

One tragedy will come and pass. There's been a lot of history in this small town. Some people I heard were murdered on the land where my mom's house is now built. I have not been to Uvalde since the mid 2010's and the distinctive scent of the dust to me excites me to be there. Then Uvalde seemed to be going to go crazy with jobs over the oil industry find but that did not happen. My Mom walked to and from Robb Elementary everyday to teach for three years down one road straight from her house on Main Street. Everyone in the cafe was a farmer and would speak verbs with an A at the start, " I was a-walking." Uvalde was anglicized, not the spanish pronunciation. People made up some fo their words in spanish not officially in the dictionary. There may be more to Garner than what has been known about his home life in Uvalde after his retirement because my great grandmother was his secretary. I loved the Amber Sky Cafe, the waitress knew my mother a little and she'd always make a tease with me at the table. The chocolate milk was so creamy and the honey the best! The original establishments sometimes were better than what big box business move in now and should be supported to stay alive. All the chicken restarants are supposed to be the better too!

Yes and apparently they did one for all 21 victims. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that when I was there.

It's too bad you didn't mention about what former Uvalde resident who was a Vice President under FDR said regarding what he thought of the office of VP that " It wasn't worth a bucket of warm spit".

Nobody thinks bad of Uvalde and its citizens. The cops and the mayor on the hand - that's a completely different sentiment entirely...
