I feel like this one is a good scale for what you like in a horror film as it kinda has an even spread of genre. From sounds of your preferences (Woods film/haunted house) if you've never seen [REC] I highly RECommend it (lame joke I know but I had too)

V/H/S 2 is definitely worth the watch..... Past that one it's a bit hit and miss, but I'd absolutely recommend the sequel. This is horror done at it's best and most creative..... On a shoestring budget.😏👍 Also, as others have mentioned, the first short in this anthology did get a full film later called SIREN (2016).

The makeup on the forehead in the first short is so perfectly done, like it’s just gradual enough that she passes for a person initially but right when they get to the motel you’re like “what is happening”

The section in the woods is titled "Tuesday the 17th" cause that would be the date of a Tuesday that comes after Friday the 13th. After the glitchy man killed her, her body convulsed and started glitching to imply that she would be just like him afterwards.

The a-holes from the beginning of the movie are in the house watching VHS tapes of other people. That's not them in the first story with the succubus woman. It's an anthology series. (Not to say the guys in that hotel room weren't a-holes)

Fun fact, the Siren girl in the first story got her own spin-off movie called "Siren" that isn't found footage but filmed like a regular conventional feature film.

@@phoenixxam5812 same. Cause of the wings. Sirens generally aren’t known for flight but then again some lore calls Harpies, Sirens. Even tho this girl looks nothing like a half bird half woman avian hybrid but it could be a unique contemporary portrayal for the film. But since she’s in another film portraying the same creature and it’s called Siren then I’m guessing that’s what the director intended for her to be? 🤷‍♂️

No they changed it. Shes a succubus 100% here. Siren is a completely different lore. She has no Siren features. She doesnt speak. Sirens sing.

So this is in my top 3 horror movie franchise. For a little more context basically all the movies focus around the idea that there is a black market where people trade supernatural snuff films. It's a really cool idea IMO.

I would love more films like VHS. Not VHS specifically, but I love the idea of giving a bunch of movie writers the chance to do these small films. Sometimes some cool concepts like the ones here won't work stretched out to full length movie times but it still gives an outlet for the ideas.

Other fantastic found footage horror would be REC (2007), Poughkeepsie Tapes, Cannibal Holocaust, and the extremely underrated Lake Mungo (2008). Lake Mungo is super underrated and overlooked. VHS 2 and VHS 1999 are also very good.

There's an alternate ending to the final segment that they shot as a joke where they get out of the car at the last moment and, despite everything that just happened, laugh and talk about what a crazy and awesome night it's been and just playfully discuss how they're gonna get back home

I was born in 2002, and I still know the joys of VCRs and VHS tapes! 😂 Gen Z knows about that stuff if they were poor. We also had one of those 5 foot tall box TVs in the living room, and I had a CRT TV in my room.

V/H/S is my favorite horror franchise. Some stories could be silly, but when they hit, they HIT.. What makes it more terrifying is the way they use "real footage" dynamic to make it feel real, that's why i love it so much. If it was recorded normally like any other movie, it wouldn't work.

Stumbled on this movie late night when I was younger while watching cable and it scared the ever-living shit out of me. It was so unexpected, but I love this anthology style of horror. Reminds me a bit of Trick 'r Treat, which is also one of my favorite horror movies.

Back when I moved in with one of my best friends, he put me on to this V/H/S series. I was already into "found footage" movies like Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity, etc, so I could appreciate these shorts. I also recommend The ABC's of Death. I was watching that one with another buddy of mine and his girlfriend. The girlfriend started crying. lol

Both this and the second one have at least one sequence that got full length spinoffs (the sequence involving the monster girl got a movie called “Siren” which stars the same woman reprising her role) and there’s one in the second one that got a movie called “Kids vs. Aliens”.

The first V/H/S is one of the most underrated horror films ever made! V/H/S 2 is also worth checking out! But the first video tape with the demon/vampire/alien creature girl was definitely the most terrifying one! It literally scared the piss out of me, brutal, disturbing and utterly fascinating at all the same time! I wish we got more expansion on that story and who she really was.

One of the few horror series' that get better and better. VHS/99 from 2022 is awesome. Hell House LLC is another great low budget found footage horror movie series I highly recommend. That was fun. Thanks!

The first 3 VHS movies are connected but after that all the rest are just randomized crap with a few gems in between. the first two were setting up something with the vhs tapes giving us some background as to what might be going on. that tapes are supposed to be cursed and there's supposed to be a way to watch them, but all that was abandoned with 3 because by that point they jumped on the whole viral video craze. you need to check out part 2 at least. by the way this movie spawned a full length movie on the succubus called Siren. In the 2nd movie, the short Safe Haven is the best and for a while there were plans to do a full feature on that one as well. but nothing ever happened. The final story in the haunted house originally ended with the guys escaping from the car but they chose to end it with their demise.

I've wanted you guys to watch this for YEARS and I was not disappointed. If you guys do decide to watch VHS 2, fair warning, there is a rough scene to get through involving a dog. The dog dad in me almost couldn't get through it but it's not as bad as John Wick dog thankfully.
