In Bladerunner 2049, I feel like Earth has turned into a largely empty space, a liminal space. Similar to the Backrooms. And this music, which is so vast-feeling and atmospheric, captures the lonely and vast feeling of such a desolate place. Also, I find that one scene (with Gosling holding the flower) to be poignant and hopeful. Poignant, because Earth has so little life in this future reality, and one flower is a point of focus for Gosling's character. Hopeful, because life is still there on Earth, and it can perhaps flourish again someday.
