Making a small Windshield for a 1st Gen V-Strom 650 with basic tools you probably already have! A small windshield works great for summer riding, increasing the air flow!

Some fine craftsmanship right there. Nicely done. (Ha, still trying to forget the horrifying, repetitive, monotony, but that’s coming from someone that spent a couple summers bending thousands of acrylic display cases a week)

Great video and thanks for that. Could you please answer one question? What does the flame treating do to the edge as against the general rub down with various grits. Thanks from the UK

It looks superb! Best looking screen I've seen on a 'strom. Does your shorter screen positively influence "The Calm"? I'm looking for smooth air. The kind I find when I stand on the pegs at 70+MPH...when my head is above the turbulence. You mention air hitting your shoulders; is it smooth at head high?

Is there a reason other than cost that you opted for a standard acrylic over Lexan or other polycarbonate?
@mainstreammoto4856

I grabbed a sheet of polycarbonate as well but it has LEXAN stamped all over it to the point that the marks I would be making would not be visible to the viewers. Acrylic is better for outside use because it is more resilient to UV light. I have heard that it is easier to bend as well. Polycarbonate is more prone to yellowing but is much stronger and flexible. I didn't want to get too into those details in the video. For the small windshield I think that the Acrylic is a good choice. I'm hoping to make a large one (and video) with the polycarbonate sheet that I bought.

Is it 250 fahrenheit or Celsius ? have done 250f for 3 minutes and after bending for ~1min it went back t flat, repeated 2 more times with same results - not sure what I am missing ?
@mainstreammoto4856
@mainstreammoto4856 Жыл бұрын
250 Fahrenheit. Are you using Acrylic or perhaps Polycarbonate? Polycarbonate requires higher temps than Acrylic to become malleable and needs to cool more to retain its shape. As long as it's not melting, maybe try a little higher temp (300f) for 3 min and allow to cool longer. I used an Acrylic sheet for mine.
