I love that the last consecutive V word is "Verbose", he basically says "now that I'm done showing off allow me to speak normally."

I can't help but feel that laugh in the middle was genuine pride that he managed to achieve the first bit, and then immediately went straight into the next.

V literally explaining their appearance, motives, and intentions with such quick candid wit that one could easily miss it, if they weren't paying attention. Such a great character.

The fact that this magnificent speech by V is NOT in the actual graphic novel is criminal.

I memorized this speech over the summer and it was one of the funnest things I have ever done and I do not regret it at least

"Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose" Translated: " Yeah, I know this speech is a pile of words not a lot of people even know."

Evie: "Are you like a crazy person?" V: "I'm quite sure they will say so. And who do I have the honor of speaking to?" Evie: "I'm Evie." V: "Evie? E-V Of course you are." Evie: "What does that mean?" V: "It means that I, like God, I do not believe in fate"

Whomever wrote that speech just ripped out the "V" section of the dictionary and gave that to Hugo Weaving to read

The genius of this scene does not lie in the fact that they just kept adding V words one after the other, but the fact that this scene just fortold the exact happenings of this movie to the very end.

Honestly I didn't know there were that many v words.....

I was kind of hoping that when he said "...you may call me V", that it would pan out to reveal the whole speech had formed the letter V.

I immediately looked at the comments to see who else got this recommendation after 8 years and found no one. Oh well, I guess I could vivaciously say that I am jovial that the voutube algorithm found favor on this video.

I always found it hilarious how he has that laughter near the end, as if he can't believe that he managed to say all that in one go...🤣

I like how V isn't above making fun of himself. Vichyssoise is a French potato soup. His excessive verbosity renders his words meaningless to the majority of people little more than a potato soup posturing to be something more than the sum parts that constitute his monologue. He acknowledges it and laughs at himself seeing his own vanity yet claiming to not be motivated by it. Even thought he says he does what he does for the people at least on some level he is also just doing it for himself. He sees the irony of it and cant help but laugh.

This short speech is also a great demonstration of etymology: none of these v-words are native English words, as in Old English, the sound /v/ was interchangeable (technically allophonic) with /f/.

I wonder how long it took him to perfect this. And can you imagine him and Jack Sparrow in an arguement? :)

I don't think I ever really registered is little laugh in there. Like, he's practiced this so many times and this is the farthest he's gotten, oh boy he actually gets to finish the speech this time! It's just so much delight and surprised in that, 5 syllable chuckle... such a colorful and expressive character, for never getting to see behind the mask.

I memorized it after watching the movie a few times when I was in my twenties. That along with the full name of Leeloo (Multipass Girl from 5th Element) was my party trick when meeting new folks in the goth club I used as my first stepping stone to be social and go out. Both never failed me.

This is still one of the best alliteration-based monologues I've ever seen used in film or even literature. If you can't remember much from the movie, you'll still very likely remember this bit.

I bet that in the movie, V was preparing in his head this introduction over and over and is now just really glad he finally gets to say it.

The ability to nail this in a single take continue to uphold that energy and finish it with such a perfect spring in his step always gets me
