I was so surprised when I saw this episode. IU only smiles and jokes like that when she is *really* close friends with someone, I didn't know they were friends at all, lol. I like the V I saw here, maybe because she seems to like him a lot, I didn't know him at all. He seems like a chill dude.

Taehyung has a genuine personality. Because of this people feel comfortable being around him. Success didn't change him. His friends from high school are still among his closest friends. During his last trip to Paris, one of his high school friend is with him. Even when he watched the Bruno Mars concert with his celebrity friends (WOOGA SQUAD), one of his high school friend is also with them. People who have worked with him (magazine shoots and TV guestings) have said, he made the work environment fun and easy. An interviewer who went to one of his magazine shoot, have mentioned how he have been to numerous photo shoots but have never seen a set as calm and hushed. Where camera shutters and faint sound of laughters can be heard. He speaks of how gently Taehyung establishes the tone right from the start. Even during his Layoꪜer promotion, his band (Tiny Desk), the models (Slow Dancing MV) and his back up dancers, have spoken of how delighted they are to have worked with him. And how they were well taken care of.

You said the word charm about 20 times and it's the right word to use because that was he is charming and delightful. There is no hard edges to Tae, his voice is soft and calm, his presence his calm, his eyes are soft too, his attitude is polite and reserved but warm at the same time, his music is calm and romantic. I appreciate the fact that even if he's very handsome, he doesn't play the hot and sexy guy card, he's not over playing his charm although he could. I like his zebra side too, his quirky way of being in the world like he has kept his childhood purity and innocence.

Actually IU fans said that she very rarely laughs like she did during this interview. And shows that IU and Taehyung are friends, which they admitted that they knew each other well. They are teasing each other showing how comfortable they are with each other :) Thanks to Taehyung, got to see a different side of IU and hear her guttural laugh at one point!

I have always admired Taehyung's emotional intelligence, he is centered well connected with his feelings, with himself, the way he is empathetic towards others, his calm demeanor, that can be playful, he is a caring friend, he has preserved his friendships all his relationships friendships, professional relationships from before and after he started his professional career, all the people who has crossed paths with him, all of them only have praise and good things to say about him, he is an outstanding human being, deserving of every bit of love the world has to offer to him.

I apologise in advance for what will be a very long rambling comment… I appreciate in advance all those who take the time to read this but seeing some of the replies in the comment section motivated me to write this. Just a couple of context points first to this Palette ep. When Tae referred to IU’s sick ear as the reason he hadn’t even dreamed to consider asking IU to do the duet for ‘Ending Scene’… IU has a very serious condition and problem with her ear that causes agonising pain. So bad that she considered retiring. She was in tears during her concert because of it. Like most Tae things, look below the surface and dig a little deeper and you see Tae’s humanity and heart… that Tae from a place of genuine care and concern didn’t want to place her in a situation where it would not only inconvenience her but cause her pain and discomfort too. People who don’t know the history of her condition won’t understand what a truly thoughtful and deeply empathetic gesture and consideration this was on Tae’s part just from his comment. Also the fact that IU could joke about it with Tae is another testament to their very comfortable sibling like dynamic. The formal/informal language. Another aspect that gets missed out… in Korea regardless of your dynamics on most programming, certain situations, places in life etc etc even if you are close and speak banmal normally, you would speak formally… hence why they refer to considering ‘the nature of the broadcast’ as a consideration point before they decide how to talk. You are right Max in that the reason Tae is unpredictable is that when he is not masking his nerves etc in formal interviews or has his poker face in performances on grand stages and distinguishing between his persona ‘v’ and he is in a comfortable enough environment where he can be Kim Taehyung , he goes with his inner feelings, so if he feels shy he will express it, if he feels jokey he will do it etc. You are also right in about how much Tae cherishes and thinks of ARMY. From gifting a song to ARMY for free called ‘Scenery’ in 2019 (the song itself explains Tae’s sentimental gentle personality). To watching ARMY vlogs on youtube, sharing ARMY fanart with the other members… to always communicating with us on we-verse. To the most recent example that honestly should explain Tae’s consideration for ARMY to a Tee. When news broke in k-media that a Saesang (nickname for a dangerous stalker fan) was arrested the previous day after following and cornering Tae in an elevator (they had waited outside his house when he returned from the airport from abroad and sneaked in by following his car into the parking lot and tried to give him marriage documents) Tae immediately came onto weverse to reassure ARMY that it was okay and he was alright. You could tell that because he knew how worried army were and had seen the panic army had gotten to on sns and weverse - In a time where we should have been apologising to him and comforting him - he was trying to cheer us up and taking our minds off our worry by posting sweet comforting cheerful videos on his sns. Max with every piece of Tae Layover content you watch you will get to see and know more of Tae’s genuine, honest, gentle, kind hearted, considered, sweet nature better. I genuinely feel that you still haven’t quite grasped how genuine he is and how it’s all natural. Certain content like Tae on Suchwita with Yoongi, Tae on ‘You Quiz 2023’ or even the more lighthearted spot ify promotions are essential. If people don’t watch these they miss out on key life stories of Tae. Tae is honestly very multi-faceted and quite mysterious for most but each Tae content is like a puzzle piece that makes up the whole canvas of Taehyung. If we consider each person a giant puzzle… with some people because the picture is somewhat one dimensional or on the easier side… having a couple of the pieces enables us to very quickly imagine what the whole picture looks like with some accuracy (of course not perfectly)... With Tae because his picture is so detailed, layered and multi-dimensional, sometimes contradictory, it takes longer and each puzzle piece is vitally important. Miss one and you miss important aspects of who Tae is. Not only that… if we continue the picture analogy… understanding of the final picture and the composition/style of it also depends very much on what came before and how it was developed. Which is why I feel all the Layover content is so crucial to those getting to know Tae as each one was different from the last and that revealed a new aspect of him. Which is also why I feel that people who are newer ARMY, casual ARMY, multi-Stan who only dip their toes into content or people who have only watched a small portion of content… or haven’t read Tae’s magazine interviews, watched his lives etc are not only missing on so much insight but are also not fully able to know Tae accurately as they are trying to imagine the picture of Taehyung with just a couple of small puzzle pieces. This is why Tae biases and genuine OT7’s get so frustrated reading the comment sections sometimes as it veers from both some insightful comments from those who are long term Army and who have really taken the time to get to know Tae, to then other surface level, misconception and assumption filled comments from those who have taken half information they’ve heard places or incomplete things without context they’ve seen in compilations and based on inaccurate translations or headlines and made their own narratives about Tae that are not accurate etc. What’s worse is that often the second kind of people are not all necessarily ill-intentioned but their half truth comments are actually more harmful as people take them to be the complete truth because they are not malicious in intent. This form of ignorance is honestly more dangerous. Even changing the words he himself has said. This is the reason soo many are protective of Tae because of how often he gets misunderstood. Also a correction to an incorrect quote I saw in the comments: Tae actually said ‘I hope people that like music, like my music’ Those saying the members have called Tae naive and insinuating things… it not only doesn’t have the same negative meaning in Korean… It means more like innocent, harmless etc. But it also doesn’t refer to Tae’s intelligence, brain and mind but instead his disposition and trusting nature. Two completely different things. I will remind you that Tae has been called a genius by most the members over the years. His intelligence is never in doubt and he is known as a creative thinker. Namjoon chose him as the most intelligent after himself during an interview when he was filming that variety show about geniuses ‘problematic men’. Tae has been referred to as having a high IQ too by the members. Yoongi has said Tae is both a genius and sometimes fool. JK, Jin and Jimin have also called Tae a genius. The important part to highlight though is that Tae approached people from the place and assumption that everyone is a good person, he was brought up by his grandmother in the countryside. He could take people at surface value there. So it’s more that unlike the other members (Jimin himself said so) he wasn’t jaded by life and people. He hadn’t had to develop street smarts to protect himself. He did however have to learn with time that not everyone is a genuine person. In relation to his ‘slow’ nature. If you have watched in the Soop you will recognise how long it takes Tae to wash dishes etc and his slowness in talking and his very laid back nature. (At the same time a contradiction to remember that he is the member who is fastest at learning choreography etc picked as so by the members and their performance director). The same that he takes his time with tasks. He truly did want to express his personality and nature. Here are some excerpts and translations from his Mel on radio appearance that I’m willing to bet 90% will not know that he said this: 🧸- Slowness does not mean inability or laziness to accelerate at a fast pace. It is about having the ability to not rush through time, not to be pushed around by the rush of time, and not to lose yourself. 🧸- It was from the meaning of living slowly by French Pierre Sansot (Principles on slow life) 🧸- I walked leisurely on the path I usually walked on. Looking at the sky, staring at a place you've always looked at with your own eyes, looking at the ceiling while lying down before going to sleep, and taking long, deep breaths. 🧸- I stand in line and wait for my turn. 🧸- Being a little more relaxed will help you look more closely at your daily life, where you were anxious and anxious about being left behind if you were late. 🧸- At the same time, it will help you find something sparkly that you haven't noticed before. 🧸- There are good things because they are slow. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the thing you just mentioned here 10:12 about V not wanted to disappoint others, in a way it’s exactly what he’s said when he was promoting this album. Tae's charm is that he has many layers to him he is never one dimensional. Personally I find him to be like a chameleon always adapting amongst various of people reading off their vibe while still having this mysterious cool aura about him that can be alluring to many people who converse with him. I also agree with your point that he is just effortlessly natural in showcasing himself in a very soft but confident tone. He is definitely the type of guy that knows he is charming but won't use all his charm to be the focus point cause he doesn't want to feel like a person that is out of reach instead he likes to feel like a buddy who's in the same level and even is attentive to you as a person which can be an attractive charm of him as well :) anyways definitely a unique charm he has😁

I think when Tae was growing up he might have been picked on a lot. He had friends but I dont think a lot of people understood his silly nature back then. Mostly because of how out going he was. He even said that he wished back then that he had slowed down. Suga used to have to sort of translate to the group what Tae was meaning before they got used to how he spoke. Tae has such a gentle heart. Watching when he went on a "date" with Army, he treated her so sweet especially at the end when it was over and he came over and hugged her again because she was crying.

IU and V have been friends for a long time, they don’t talk to each other formally even with the age gap because of their friendship. So their interactions are like siblings bickering. V’s best friend acted with IU in a movie recently and Tae hangs out with a lot of actors. Also in the early days, too many people used to try and become V’s friend, especially in the entertainment industry. V realised (and told us) that they were trying to get to know V and not Kim Taehyung. Meaning that they wanted to be close to him for his popularity and fame rather than being interested in the real him. By the way Taehyung’s comments about being slow is a new thing which I think is pr for his album. In reality Tae was the least ambition and the most down to earth member. In Suchwita,Tae and Suga told us that Tae’s ambition was to become a trainee. Suga said tae has a lot of talent and would try and persuade him do more at the time. Tae has now realised that he has goals and that he will achieve them in stages because he wants to be authentic and portray his artistry, he is still not about topping charts but about doing serious music which tells a story, doing more entertainment shows and he wants to do more acting. Tae is an all round entertainer and sadly we never got a chance to see too much of it before as the group had a no solo a activity policy. Thankfully due to the hiatus, he got a chance to do lots of variety shows.

I think you hovered around something very integral to V’s personality. He’s very aware of how unique he is and he claims it and loves that about himself. But I think he’s also very aware of how the his makes him an outsider or misfit to a lot of people and he’s been teased about it a lot. I think you got close to something when you mentioned he was trying to figure out the teasing. I think he’s trying to figure out if it’s really someone speaking truth, gentle loving teasing or something more critical and undermining so he can protect himself if he needs to. He probably learned that protectiveness of himself from how his members help “translate” TaeTae language during group interviews.

It’s funny to see how shy he gets and how he expresses that shyness. Idk if you’ve heard of his “tata mic” face but Jimin has said he does it when he’s embarassed and he does it a lot 😭 which is interesting to me bc we don’t see him as somebody who gets embarassed easily/a lot but ig he does

i think you're so on poing about the things you said about Taehyung, i also think if he wanted to he could be a massive star but he's very sensitive and he knows what he wants and likes and that's completely reflected in his album, we know he did't write it but he was heavily involved in it so it feels very him, plus i think all members love army but Taehyung has a very deep love towards us

Taehyung's self-acceptance (including his slower pace) is wonderful to see because he has such a unique personality so it must not have been always easy to be different from everyone else. You mentioned BTS's message of self-love, but you might already be aware that in early 2018 when they were working on "Love Yourself: Tear", they were having a hard time to the point of considering disbanding. Here are some of what Tae said about that period of time. "We were working on Love Yourself, but we couldn't love ourselves." (Beyond the Story, p. 302) "After some time had passed, I started to compare myself to others. "Because my pace is slower than the members and my thoughts are a bit different, is that why I'm more burned out?" I thought this a lot." (Suchwita ep. 18) I hope you can react to Taehyung's Suchwita episode soon.

I think you were spot on with the comments around Taehyung's sensitivities. Really appreciate your insight.

I think an aspect to the VIU interactions that is missing from your conversation about it is the question of accepted Korean formality and honorifics/respect when two friends - and two of "unequal" ages at that - are put in the situation of interviewer/interviewee. They actually talk about that early in this video, decide to start formal, then try informal and see where it lands. For V, IU is senior in age AND in entertainment industry experience...AND here she is in a role that would normally require him to be more formal regardless of seniority. So I think he showed more deference than they are both used to between them, and that wasn't always comfortable for either one of them. They are friends - which was huge news to ARMY, by the way. We had no idea...but they shared that they text each other and talk music, and it seemed regularly.

Do you ever think there's a big difference between the koreans' interaction and the us-american? I don't know any american shows that are like Palette or Suchwita. I love these formats so much! And I'm from Germany, we don't have this...

We can see it in photos and short videos or things they tell, but this video shows much more about it. I really love that video with IU. For me i see Taehyung as a genuine human, i feel like hes also confidnet in who he is to the extent that he doesn't bother to prove hes "got it". However i have also watched him prove that "hes got it" because of certain outdated positions that were assigned to the members and armys ran away with it like thats the whole definition of who he is. So whenever he did that, showed that "hes got it" he always comes out on top. He doesnt care to prove a point unless hes pushed,and whenever he proves it, you must notice it. Therefore his personality is really just a genuine, confident man and loves to live in his confort zone.

IU is one of the most respected and loved public figure in South Korea because of her humbleness, honesty, well mannered, respect for others, charitable, talented song writer, composer, acting, show hostess, loving and giving back so much to her fans, the lists just goes on.
