What a thrill to be able to visit the museum at that time. Thank you for sharing your experience and information and great video. I was fortunate to have been on the Southern Crescent for a trip to Washington DC from the Brookwood Atlanta station and return a week later. That was around April 1972. Seeing the locomotive 4501 also brought back memories of Saturday excursion train trips from Atlanta to Birmingham, Fort Valley, Toccoa Falls, Hiawasee and Chattanooga back in the sixties and early seventies.

Yeah that's cool! Unfortunately we lost a firefighter on the 4th of July here in Northeast Texas as he and his crew were preparing to set up a fireworks show for one of the communities here. 4 of his crew were also badly injured. They laid him to rest this past Saturday. It's a somber reminder of what our Firefighters will do for our communities!

The locomotive at 3:40 is a Baldwin AS-416, and last year a few of the volunteers got its engine started up and were able to make it move under its own power. It'd be great to see it pulling the on-site train

My oldest sister lives 20 miles away from the museum. I have been to that place many times myself over the years.

Ah, man, I thought about coming to this one but maybe next year I'll go if the OAR train returns! Glad you enjoyed Spencer! Sometimes the museum will let people operate the locomotives (for a price!) on a stretch of track. I got to operate SOU 6133 while there and while it's awesome, you really learn how rough it is to ride some of those uneven rails with how much a locomotive rocks back and forth on them!

Now, all they need is a tornado warning and the sirens will go off, making it the loudest event ever!

All this time and I never knew there was a fire truck festival @ The NC Transportation Museum, wow, the best of both worlds!! Practically just down the street from my home in VA. Ear plugs were not standard issue, at least when & where I’m from. I learned to drive on a 1961 American LaFrance Engine and she was one beautiful rig and yellow not red (although I prefer red). I was fortunate enough to see NS 911 on a freight train in Fort Payne, Alabama a long time ago. (I think it was 2015 or something like that) It was by complete chance. I have never intentionally gone out to see heritage units, but I seem to be lucky. I saw NS Conrail in Fort Payne last month. Oh and by the way, if you feel sorry for whoever has to clean out those train toilets, you should see Hyce's story about the poop incident. He uploaded a video about it and it's hilarious.
