**NOTES** - As several of you mentioned, the original book about Frankenstein had no significant references to lightning. That was added in later adaptations and it's mostly a pop-culture reference. (Thank you Storia X for pointing that out) - I made a mistake regarding the identity of the person who said "never reveal your identity to others." This line was said by **Katsuragi** and not **Nagamasa**. The two paragraphs are adjacent to each other and my brain did that thing where it blended them together. In light of this, it's likely that Katsuragi may have said this line to Scaramouche upon discovering him, then later Nagamasa told him "[...]I can only deal with you in this fashion.[...]". It's possible Katsuragi died because Nagamasa wished to dispose of Scaramouche or turn him over to the authorities, and Katsuragi went against him. If this is the case, then Scaramouche's motivation for revenge seems all the more understandable.

scaramouche is one of the most influential characters when it comes to genshin lore, and the guy appeared a total of 2 times, and in those 2 times he managed to create probably one of most abundant theories when it comes to genshin's world design,l really hope we get to see more of him and in a way that is nicely done with no rushed story plots ~~looking at you archon quest 2.1

I think someone suggested that the first "heart" Scaramouche got wasn't the gnosis but a dilusion in a form of a gnosis. That's why it was described as evil, malicious etc. Now that he got the real gnosis he might have run away because he now retained memories of Makoto from the Gnosis. Remember Ei didn't seem him fit when he cried after she first made him. The reason could have been Makoto's overwhelming memories. And like in the past he is now struggling with himself after replacing his delusion with this new heart "gnosis".

I think the gnoses are definitely trophies, and they contain the memories of the past archons of the gnosis’ type. So when scaramouche came across the electro one, he saw all memories that makoto and ei have gone through, the intense loss. It can also explain how anyone who has the gnosis doesn’t become the archon, venti, zhongli, and ei all are archons without a gnosis but my guess is that when they die, their powers will go to whoever has the gnosis, and they will become the successor to the previous archon.

I’ve never considered the possibility of watching Scaramouche receive his vision as part of the story, but it makes so much sense! It’s such an integral concept in this game that we’re bound to watch it happen to someone. Not to mention, it never occurred to me that Scaramouche might turn out to be a geo unit, but now that you bring it up it seems obvious! I’m really drawn to a particular line in the description of the Calabash of Awakening: “Perhaps a day will come when this body's adventures, its experiences, Will become tales to be passed along by mortals, distant memories that flow through the ley lines. But for now, his three acts are still ongoing.” As a permanent artifact set description that is unlikely to change, it states that Scaramouche’s story is ongoing, and it implies the development of at least one other “act” to his story, and I take this at least to be confirmation that he doesn’t die. It looks like speculation is split between Scaramouche being playable or dead, and this seems to speak towards the former.

Things like this is why I sometimes hate Genshin's event system, I missed the event where Scaramouche first appeared and therefore my only exposure to him has been in the Archon quest where he comes off as a generic edgy anime side-villain.

I know a lot of people talk about Ei and Scaramouche, but I can't shake the feeling that Yae also has some sort of role to play here. She just knows so much about Inazuma and the fact she gave the gnosis to the one being it was built for is so sus.

I actually interpreted the whole "he would finally get that heart but it wasn't one he truly desired" as in he was given another artificial heart by the Fatui but he wasn't satisfied with it yet he didn't want to take it out because then he would feel nothing. I don't think they'd reveal what he did with the gnosis just yet. Of course, that's just my interpretation of the line. And there was a part where he went to Narukami to seek assistance for the people of tatarasuna I persume? The shrine maiden (Yae?) telling him Raiden would not abandon him and she would send help yet him not receiving any help might have also ruined any faith he had in her. Also Yae handing him over the gnosis is super sus to me. No way did she not know what the gnosis was and what it meant to Scaramouche. Maybe she felt pity for him.

I think Scaramouche will show up one more time in Inazuma, however won't be playable just yet (it does seem to me that Childe and Scaramouche will have to fight at some point in Inazuma or Sumeru- Childe did say he'll let go of the gnosis *for now* ). I honestly think he'll be playable in the early patches of Sumeru (as he gains more knowledge there) but I think our relationship with him in the story would be of the frienemy kind like Childe, he won't be our complete enemy but not a complete friend either. Btw if a gnosis is an archon's "heart", and Baizhu turns out to actually be the original Dendro archon then... Baizhu would die when a harbinger will take it away from him? Also I don't see Scaramouche being anything else than Electro... I mean he was created by Ei and got a bit of power from her so... I see him being Electro.

As for people saying playable characters require a vision or gnosis, that's foolish. Zhongli, Venti and Ei currently has neither. And the biggest one of all, the Traveler lol For now the only requirement to be a playable character is a strong affinity to a element. It doesn't matter if you have a vision, or study a art that makes it possible to fully use a element without a vision, or just born with the ability to manipulate the leyline energy. I think vision isn't the reason characters are able to use the elements, but it's just a tool to make their connection to the leyline easier. So it's not impossible to see a character with a natural affinity to draw energy directly from the leyline without a tool or vision.

This is sounding more like Kingdom Hearts lore more and more, to the point there is enough to freaking tie Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact, and freaking Kingdom Hearts into one freaking Multiverse...

ei 🤝 gold: making a boi for science. iirc yae (?) told us ei made a prototype as proof of concept, so I think that's why scaramouche was created male. ei didn't want to make something too similar to her sister in case she had to discard them and it'd be like losing makoto all over again. scara being not quite exact is what allowed her to maintain that emotional distance I think. adds a layer of tragic irony there that the very reason she ditched him was bc of traits he shared with makoto that ei viewed as weakness :(

It'd be kind of cute if he's just more in tune with Ei than anyone realized and he was crying because he was dreaming of all the motives and feelings she was repressing. Like, she was driven to succeed, always pushing and refining herself, sharpening her war skills... ever focused on victory, intent on sacrificing herself before others.. and venerating the lives of her friends. She was only good for battle, it's what she knew and excelled at. ...and yet she is the last one standing and has to find a way to preserve the legacy her friends created for her... Then: Scarmouche and he being the closest thing to her as she slaves away at her new purpose, with no baseline expectations of the world yet, begins to weep.

I'm still mad that such a poignant origin story is hidden entirely in artifact descriptions and mismatched bits and pieces of written lore (though why am I surpsrised about anything after what they did to Signora?). I used to label him as a little brat when he presumably betrayed Tsaritsa and stole the gnosis for himself. Now that we know he might view it as a "heart" originally belonging to him... This just gives the whole thing a 180 degrees turn.

The new Dragonspine event has me theorising an evil Albedo twin, who is also a Harbinger, becoming soul mates with Scaramouche. Discord starts to form in the Fatui and the cracks start to show as truths are revealed and sides are taken. I also have a theory that scaramouche is a cryo unit and his ulti ability would see him use his hat as a toboggan and slide around on it hitting enemies........I think I need to go outside, touch some grass and get back to reality.

The death of Anemo Scaramouche is a trauma I will never move on from. But I consider... what about... Anemo scaling with DEF? That would be funny.

I kind of have this gut feeling when he becomes playable, I think he may have a similar mechanic to Tartaglia and Ei. Like he would have a dual weapon playstyle, because it says code-wise that he’s a Catalyst user yet lore-wise he can wield a Sword. ✨✨ For example, for his Normal Attack, he uses his Catalyst, yet when he uses his Burst, he transforms into using his Sword(FTLOG, please make it longer than 7 seconds).✨✨

Oooh gotta add: im like 99% sure that scaramouche was made with actual makoto dna (like her hair or smt), he was supposed to be a test prototype, ei realised that maybe trying to resurrect a puppet based on her sister while also giving him her memories _might_ lead to an emotional morally grey mess Then she cast him aside cus her test was done AND he was basically like an old project to her, best would be to just pretend it didn't happen and move on with the raiden puppet

i just noticed that right before yae miko appears, scaramouche's left hand is positioned on his side, as if he was going to draw a blade so while his model was labelled as male catalyst, it still doesn't make sense for him to be one when a blade would've been more brutal than magic- because his lack of emotions without a heart (at that specific moment), it seems reasonable to execute the traveler with a blade rather than with magic. at least in my opinion so maybe in the end he will be a catalyst user? because it's more graceful that way? still... it makes more sense for him to be a sword user since he danced and practiced with blades what i don't hope is for him to be a geo user- while it would be quite interesting, his model's aesthetic doesn't give off the air of a geo user, imo

Ash, if we already know there were 2 archons representing 2 forms of charged bodies (+ve and -ve, with Makoto being the +ve as she lost her life and Ei being -ve as she gained the archonship) then why are we still stuck on believing that there is just 1 gnosis? I believe there are 2 electro gnosis which fit like a magnet, and Scaramouche having just Makoto's gnosis, hence why he's still incomplete. He cannot transcend without the complete gnosis

Honestly, I do want him to be an electro catalyst but at this rate, I just want him to be playable. I can accept a Geo sword Scaramouche. Anything.

well according to that one book we got a couple of patches ago, makoto has already resurrected ei once, after gaining her gnosis. so its entirely possible that ei was gonna use the same technique to bring back makoto and oopsie scara happened. ive been pondering if considering makotos apparent knowledge of god ressurection, if she didnt just die during the cataclysm, but she was assassinated. it ties in with my theory of ei being subserviant to celestia on the basis of fear. also it seems according to everything that ei never really took the gnosis after makoto died, i mean like....put it inside herself. which would neatly tie into them being organs designed directly for each original archon, and also why ei had to die when makoto was ascending to recieve hers. i wonder how this will tie in in the future when we meet the other archons that arent originals. wink wink our little grass god :D. also wow ive only just noticed that scara has the archon hair stripes as well lmao. i wonder when he becomes playable, will those glow when he uses his element. also heeeck i didnt consider the possible vision switch, or rather, that he may be.....our first.......dual wielder....not only a catalyst/sword dynamic, but a dual vision situation. and they might introduce the first instance of vision switching in the menus. thats fun to think about. edit: oh what if eis puppetmaking skills were dodgy on the topic of bringing her sister back....because she didnt have the gnosis inside her. like if we imagine that the gnosis was the thing scara said was a horrible deceitful thing, maybe its just that it gives you an input into how the world really works. like a router that collects data packets from the internet mainframe of celestia. with it, makoto possibly had an insight into the leylines and the information on where eis soul is and how she could manipulate existence to bring her back to her body. so if scara wore it for a bit and was plugged into the mainframe and saw the reality of everything, he was disgusted by the amount of deception that goes on in this observation bubble world.

Wanted to note that the Rifthound Wolves also come only in the colors of Electro and Geo. And Albedo is also an artificial human. And of this patch the story continues around him. With a doppelgänger that can perfectly copy someones appearance including voice. Who but another puppet could perform such a feat? Perhaps Scaramouch. And using cryo wouln't be a problem either, I'm sure the Fatui had plenty of Delusions laying around in Inazuma. Wouln't be surprised to see a connection between all this.

I also thought that Scaramouche might get a vision after a story quest (thinking about his, this would make him much more like Pinocchio, I guess?), but seeing the similarities between him and Raiden Makoto was super cool! Kinda hyped for the next time we see him in the story quest. Probably 3 patches from now because Genshin likes its filler updates lol

Hey I would like to add something minor, do not discount the gnosis being just magical artifacts of divine level and the archons being pretty much akin to divine beings, in chinese fantasy literature sometimes when divine beings die they can transfer their conciousness into an artifact of the same rank since that way the artifact can hold their conciousness and memories, sometimes this happens because one wants to survive sometimes this happens because someone else wants you to survive, it would not surprise me if mikoto conciousness was transferred by her sister on her final moments to the gnosis as a desperate measure so she could later find a way to resurrect her, (so far she has not been successful), also on a final point tsaritza might be collecting gnosis as a way to access celestia, if celestia is right now unavailable to anybody, tsaritza might have info on a ritual or something that could allow her to connect to celestia but only if she can find something that has a deep connection to it, maybe she already tried with her own gnosis and got a very small success enough to show that its possible but 1 gnosis is not strong enough to open a portal to it so she needs more gnosis (maybe all of them) so that she can open and access celestia, for what reasons I do not know yet but it will probably be revealed in the future, I have lots more theories about this but hey just wanted to share this 2 since i think they are theoretical points you might want to keep in mind.

I'm still waiting for Mihoyo to make an arc where we meet him again but this time he's struggling to deal with all his emotions and fears now that he has the gnosis. Maybe deep inside he feels like he doesn't belong anywhere, because he was created to be a god (not really, but he would still play the role of a god), but he was discarded, and he also cant relate to humans because he is not a mortal. So maybe he will be able to relate to the Traveler since they are in a similar situation, and then he can be redeemed and join us! And then we have Scaramouche banner (copium but we can dream XD)

Considering that Pierro, between his statement that he "laughs in the face of fate" and Scaramouche's claim that he knew what Scara would discover in the Unreconciled Stars event, seems to have some knowledge of fate, I wonder if he sent Scara to the delusion factory specifically because he knew that Yae Miko, who is probably the "intelligent, lovely shrine maiden" from the Husk set, would show up there. Also, the Gnosis seems to simply offer a connection to Celestia. This could be a source of power, but also very clearly is a source of burdens. But having them all might allow the Tsaritsa to reach the other way through the connection, and start messing with Celestia instead.

ok ok ok hear me out... geo is yellow... but electro slimes come in both purple (live) and yellow (ground), and if ei embodies the purple slime (live) and makoto embodies the yellow slime (ground) then it might translate somewhat for scaramouche ??! (personally still doubt a little bit but, it's a neat idea)

Talking about Katsuragikiri Nagamasa, it reminded me of Narukami's Valor with its description: "They say that there were four great spirits, three divine foxes, and two great swords - but that the symbol of Her Excellency, the Almighty Narukami Ogosho, could only be a single strike, unsurpassed and brilliant as a meteor.". Interestingly it mentions of two great swords, one is most likely what Raiden holds now and the other one might actually be what Scaramouche has (assuming he took the remnants of Katsuragikiri Nagamasa and reforged it), maybe a Katsuragikiri Nagamasa 2.0?

In her cutscene in the last part of the Inazuma archon quest, she says "I've seen a nation fall to the heavenly principles" leading me to believe that her desire for eternity went into overdrive after her sister died that along with avoiding erosion she didn't want Inazuma to become the next cataclysm. The lore set really gives more info about Scaramouche though and humanizes him for me a bit more. It sucks that he finally got a 'heart' but it wasn't what he expected after receiving it. I'm still confused on his status as a catalyst or sword user. Because when we first saw Sara in the Inazuma prologue cutscene, Sara had a sword but she ended up being an archer. Mihoyo give us more cluuuues. Scaramouche-Makoto theory is really damn cool and so would witnessing him being granted a Vision. Fuck Nathan though, pour one out for Teppei

Considering Inaumza story focused a lot on visions, I think Scaramouche receiving his own vision would be quite an interesting development unless they decide to let him keep the Gnosis. Albedo got his own vision despite being an artificial human being so it would be within possibility that Scaramouche gets one. Firmly believe he is playable because he looks designed to be one, he is mentioned in Ei's voice lines like all current/future playable characters, and that he was intended to be one from the start. I highly doubt he will be geo as him being electro is more likely (please I don't have an electro main cri). Honestly when Scara man can we please have Scara

What Im curious abt is this part; Plume of Luxury- A pair of expectant eyes said: "This gold ornament is a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "It must surely be able to save the people." -wonder whose eyes this belongs to? I wanna believe it's Ei since it might show that she had hopes in him before abandoning him with the ornament. If not her, maybe Katsuragi?or someone in the fatui?Tsaritsa?or someone he met along his journey?.. it's too vague to deduce who.

After your theory of the Pillars of Heaven… well, maybe the Gnosis don’t give you a power up, but just the responsibility of the different pillars in a region. By that logic, having just one wouldn’t make a difference, and the rest of the people responsible for other pillars would be able to simply override your commands (as in, one Archon going rouge and Celestia putting pressure on the other Archons to stop them). However, if a single person (the Tsaritsa) were to get their hands on all of them, who would be able to stop them (especially when they have been created an army, and have modified certain beings (Scaramouche and Collei) to be a lot stronger through very artificial means?? So perhaps the Tsaritsa agrees with Kheanri’ah full heartedly, seeing the firmament as a prison, one must break out of, however has not been able to speak on the desire due to the fact that it would mean the permanent silencing of Celestia. So the Tsaritsa is not getting the Gnosi for a huge power up, but to have complete control over the firmament, taking the separate, necessary precautions to deal with Celestia when the time comes….

Ei making puppets to live longer or revive the dead, reminds me of the story of Sasori from Naruto who turned his own body and his dead parents (& others) into puppets. and he sealed his soul (or source of life) in a small piece that he put inside his puppet body. I gotta revisit his story and the references from which was based on and compare it with Ei's.

I’m wondering if Scar and Albedo will have any interactions because I think those two meeting would be really interesting, and with that I’m wondering if those two are related in their creation in some way.

As for the weapon he might use when he is playable, its true that in his datamined file he is considered as a male catalyst user, but raiden uses a sword in her Q and a polearm in general, so maybe scaramouche will use a catalyst in general but in his E or Q he will use a sword, it will fit with how he and raiden shogun (the puppet) share the art of sword but different playable weapon in general

Another great video! I have to honestly say I haven't been so interested in scaramouche for the longest time since his personality just isn't my type, but this video has changed that a bit for me. After scaramouche had seemed to run off after that shiki event I'm interested in what he'll do when we see him again in the future. It would be great to actually see the moment when a character gains a vision in game through scaramouche. Although it would be really funny to see 2 artificial beings in game have the same body type, vision element, and weapon type... likely also working best with the same artifact set as well lol

I'm interested to see what happens in regards to his name, among other things, if he does become a most likely reluctant ally to the Traveler will he continue to use his Harbinger name or go by a different name? Maybe he gains his own Vision on top of claiming a permanent name for himself, cementing the fact that he's forging a new path for himself. Still retaining some parts of his personality but less callous towards human life. The name Makoto is actually unisex and more popular with boys then girls, when broken down the name means 'sincerity' and 'truth'. It would kind of fit if he chooses that name, he does know some crucial lore after all XD
