something that i noticed is that it says "everyone would like you more without it", and then a couple scenes later, theyre throwing the cake away. theyre attempting to get rid of the people-pleasing by people-pleasing.

Theory time: So the person eating the cake has black nails, Flower has pink nails. Which means she isn't eating the cake. In the song she says "Take a bite of me, now that I have become a favorable delicacy. The black nailed person took a bite of the cake, cake is a delicacy to most people. She also says "Divide my life away into servings." If you are getting a slice cake, you are getting a serving of cake. She is splitting her personalities that she uses for different people and parts of her life so everybody's happy. This all means that she is possibly the cake herself. Then at the end she is breaking down and starting to lose her composer. Then the black nailed person throws away the cake because they don't like the cake anymore. This is just a theory though....

so i showed this song to my dad and this was his interpretation: this girl is trying to fit the image of the "perfect person". she wants to appeal to everyone she meets, so she dramatically alters her diet and ends up developing an eating disorder. she struggles through it until she finally reaches "perfection", but the people around her either still aren't satisfied or want her to go back to her old self. she begins breaking down, not sure what to do now. she did everything to achieve the "perfect" body. what more do they need? how much more does she need to suffer? probably a more surface-level interpretation of the story within the song than what most people noticed, but it's still a really interesting take. also, he enjoyed the song, which is a feat since he doesn't normally like vocaloid songs (he dislikes how robotic their voices sound)

I can relate to this song so much. I am probably the worst people-pleaser ever. I've even described myself as a platonic simp lol. I have this overwhelming desire to please everyone all the time, and end up sort of "attaching" myself to them to the point where I can't tell where I begin and where my friend ends. And when our relationship ends, I don't know who I am anymore; my identity is taken from me. I also have a tendency to overeat as a result of stress, loneliness, etc to the point where I feel nauseous. Lock-down helped a lot with this problem because I was torn apart from everyone I know and forced to figure out who was and who wanted to be. I also discovered Ghost and the vocaloid community! I'm doing a whole lot better now that I'm aware of my people-pleasing tendencies, and this will always remain one of my all-time favorite comfort songs. Thank you Ghost for writing such amazing music and keep up the good work! P.S. Flower is my favorite vocaloid so that makes this song 100000 times better :)

I had this song playing while I babysat my three year old sister one time. Maybe it was the colours or just the music in general, but she started watching it. She asked my who the person was, so I told her that it was V4 Flower. Now anytime she's in my room, she asks to listen to this, and anytime she sees someone who looks vaguely similar to the character in the video, she says "It's V4 Flower!". Extra Bit - While she can recognize V4 Flower easily, she can also usually tell me what character is Say and what character is Arc. However, she doesn't say who they are without being asked (where as she'll shout "It's V4 Flower" the moment she sees this video). Instead, she focuses on the hands in the background, trying to copy what they are doing.

I remember one time listening to this in art class while making a presentation on van go or something and I had to pause at 2:39 because the teacher was trying to talk to me and the first thing she said was “what are you watching that has a zoomed up image of a girl’s crotch

My theory about the song, in the beginning v4flower takes a small chunk out of the piece of cake which I presume is giving one different personality to one different person, only for that one person. Later in the song, we see her taking a full handful of it which I can presume it’s giving so many different personalities to everyone it’s becoming overwhelming. when V4flower says “ and I’m starving” maybe it’s because she feels like she can’t be her own self and she’s tired of giving out different personalities for every person to make them happy. Throws out the cake because she’s tired of that idea. Literally meaning of people pleaser.

So, what I've gathered is... This person is very desperate for people to like them, so much so that they go on to mimic other's personalities by "consuming them" thus becoming more likeable to others, in theory, but unfortunately it's not enough, and they can't figure out what else to do to make others like them, and while doing this, they realize that they don't even remember who they are anymore, becoming unoriginal. Just found this song, and I love it. Hi there, i just kinda wanted to have a discussion about the themes and meaning of the song. Well, its obvious the song is about the main character's people-pleasing tendencies that spiral into a full blown obsession. I just wanna say how i love the level of detail this song has with its themes, there are obvious tells as to what the song is trying to say, but more lines that connect the theme of food and appetite with the song that you can interpret even deeper. A couple lines i liked were: " so many flavors one could abhor" Implying how The MC is willing to be many things, to the point it could be overwhelming to just one person. Because for people-pleasers they learn that trying to please everyone by being many things can rly put off some individuals (sense i used to be an avid people-pleaser in my past). Most of the song is just a progression of hoe the MC is changing themselves to a self-destructive degree. But its the last part that made me have one idea about the themes. I think the theme of Appetite...its a symbol for self-driven desires... Think about it, your appetite is one of the few things your aware of, and you have control of wether you satisfy it or not. So in the last part, the MC says these lines: " My Appetite is hindering my likeability...everyone will like me more without it, everyone will like me more without it" And then the following chorus has the MC say theur insides are empty and how their "starving", and in this chorus in particular, the MC seems to be questioning whoever their talking too 10x more then normal...almost as if their frustrated. I interpretted it as the MC saying "I've given up my own well being to make you happy, why aren't you happy/why don't you like me!?" Also another idea i had was that the chocolate cake we see pop up in the video multiple times could represent other peoples validation. Cause we see its the first thing the MC eats, and then later in the song we see the MC gobbling it up...and other lines can compare focusing on other people too unhealthy food like a cake. "I don't care how unhealthy it is" Also, on a more hopeful note, the MC is shown throwing away the cake at the end of the song. Which could symbolize how they dont care about other peoples validation anymore (especially sense its after the chorus where they seem to be frustrated). Anyways, that's my thoughts, please comment if you have anything to add, hopefully we can have a discussion about this :3

This was the song that introduced me to GHOST in the first place, it’s a wonderful song that I related to back then (and unfortunately still kind of do, but I’m working on that) and have just kept going back to this song since. I’ve made a character with this song as inspiration, I have made drawings with this song playing or in mind, and I even have sang along with it multiple times throughout the years. I love all of GHOST’s works and always look forward to the new song or video they make, but this very one is my personal favorite that has helped me through some harsh times in my life.
