Mount Walker, up back of Lithgow, is central to this dvd trip, one of my favourites because this was during the time I was trialling the Red Truck. What an awesome beast it was - thunder through the mountains!
Rod led the trip with his stock and slow old diesel '84 Hilux, the same one he's done recoveries with around the area for years. He bought his mate Hummy along too.
We were also joined by my mate Mannie, a Seik from Sydney Jeep Club and a dead keen off-roader who's only been one of us for seven months or so. Mannie was out finding the limits on his Jeep and that takes a bit of doing! So there's plenty of good advice here for anyone who's serious about travelling the bush!
Yep, it might be an oldie but it's definitely a goodie! Love that Lithgow area.

I did actually get rescued by Rod once, back when I was on my P's, middle of the night with some friends on Newnes Plateau, had some gremlins in the fourby, no headlights, no 4wd, I remember we had to string the old brick style mobile between some trees for service. I got to know him pretty well over the years, went to school with his son, and we were in the same 4wd club for a while, before he left to start his own club. Watching this brings back a lot of memories.

Back when the show we real and welcoming. Now they run into strangers needing help and seem to make a small segment about the recovery and lots of effort hiding the faces of the people. This goes down as one of my favourite episodes, felt pretty darn genuine. Not to mention 'Big Red' what a beast, and so beautiful.

Omg I’m looking at a blast from the past Rooth I’m sure that’s Huggie I grow up with in the old blue mountains 4wd club he and my old man helped build the test tack for the old 4wd and camping show with Clive woody Woodfield when I was learning to walk. I remember he used to own a brown 60 back then and in its day was the bees knees had everything on it you could think of. If He is the Huggie I remember and the same bloke he is a true legend and an absolute gentleman man even though I was a young taker I do have memories of my childhood 4wding with him

I'm only 26 and I'm already saying the old, "back in my day" saying ........ I watched roothy's DVD,s in my teens and learnt what 4wden was all about. It's not this slow-mo, "4wd goes through water" bull s#$t. It's about a whole lot more. Wish you were still with 4wd action or 24/7. The world needs a genuine aussie legend.

I reckon Mani gets "stuck" for dramatic effect. Maybe it looks deceiving on video but it didn't look like he needed help at all, just an excuse to demonstrate winching for the camera.

11:55 even way back in these old videos off-road traction control didn't get enough credit on these videos you can see it working a treat on that driver side wheel up and the jeep just kept on going.

@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY oh don’t worry I know, we rely traction on control in our wagons off road primarily and I’ve recently compared Bosch 8.0 platform system used in many crossover suvs in the 2005-2010 era with the system that’s in the the new Toyota as atrac and you can really see how much has been improved on this over time, faster and more quieter almost non existent to the driver if unaware of how it really works.

Great video roothy, that red truck sounds like a beast. Great to see mani out having a go too. Hope he's still out hitting the tracks, and learning as he goes. A few mods, and a winch, on that jeep, and she'll be a sweet bush bus.

Hi Roothy, Bring your carby to me, I'll sort it out. I got a 350 in my MQ nissan, I tuned it, it don't miss or flood don't matter, how steep the track is.

Fit a hand throttle as well. My old Nissan has one and it saves a lot of on and off the throttle jerkiness.

In India -once every driver was a Sikh Punjabi and so were Indian soldiers. BTW Mani is pronounced MONEY not Manny or Mahoney (Irish)

Hey Roothey.. do you use air , or electric lockers..?? Don't know what to get... Not real Interested in Auto locks being locked most the time.. Makes selecting 2wd pointless...

I used ARB air lockers for years, TJM air lockers aftrer that and finally Harrop eLockers - they're all good, but the Harrops are the latest engineering and my favourite so far.
