VA has specific rules surrounding Veterans working and receiving total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU) benefits. TDIU is a benefit that allows veterans to be compensated at VA’s 100 percent disability rate, even if their combined schedular disability rating does not equal 100 percent. Unemployability is generally reserved for Veterans who are unable to work due to service-connected conditions, though there are exceptions to this rule.

Would being unable to hold down a job also qualify for TDIU? I'm currently rated at 50% for MH but are in appeals for an increase to 70% and employment is one of the reasons. Because of my SC disability, I haven't been able to hold down a job to the point where I've had a dozen different jobs in 5 or 6 years.

V.A. claim pros, Hill and Pontoon cannot compare to the information and guidance that these men and women bring forth. I am not a Paid veteran for this firm. I just love and respect their Candor and es pri de cor (feel free to correct my spelling)

I’m rated at 90% with IU P&T and SMC S. I’d like to attempt to work a few hours a week. Will I jeopardize my benefits if I attempt to work under the poverty line being that I’m rated housebound due to combined percentages? We’re a family of 4 living in California and we need some extra income.

Question, Im a Desert Storm Vet and I filed a claim 2 1/2 yrs. Ago and the VA awarded me the VA pension but they also said in my award letter that I was 70% unemployable!! But they didn't service connect me!! What should I do? Re file and obtain a VA lawyer? Im not sure how to approach this!! Thanks for your time!!

Do I qualify for TDIU if: A service connected disability was exacerbated while working private sector and led to a disability retirement from employment, where I am going to receive a disability pension and social security disability.

If you have TDIU but it is not connected to an individual disability condition and later obtained 100% t&p out right. Will the TDIU supercede the new award of 100% t&p? TDIU and 100% t&p shows in ebenefits as both applies. So will the Veteran be seen as TDIU or 100% T and P? Have you ever dealt with this before?

I am a homeless 70% Unemployable (TDIU) veteran who could't find a place to buy or rent in the insane housing market. I found an apartment/office for rent. To rent and keep the space I must form an LLC, acquire a FEIN number, department of revenue Tax ID, permit, etc. Won't make a dime, pretend like I am doing business. Some say if I acquire a FEIN number I will automatically lose my TDIU because the VA will deem me gainfully employed. Some say I can acquire my FEIN I will not lose my TDIU if I make less than the poverty threshold. I am confused.....

As a 10-99 real estate agent on a real estate team (not mine). I would most certainly be making way more that the threshold. And my employer/team leader gives me the ability to me the work environment protected for me… is this considered an exemption for making as much money as possible with no repercussions?

Hi there. Thank you for the information. Quick question: if I understand correctly, while a veteran is receiving TDIU he/she can still work full-time and make unlimited income as long as they work in a “protected environment” - where the employer accommodates the veteran for their service-connected disabilities? If so, is it advisable to let the VA know that they are working in a protected environment to mitigate any alarm when they make over the property threshold? Thank you so much.

I have a 30 percent rating for insomnia. I applied for TDIU because it has worsened, causes depression and mood swings and enables me to work during the day because of extreme fatigue. I also got in trouble with my job for self medicating. Is it possible for me to receive tdiu? Overall I have a 60 percent rating.

If I received TDIU for PTSD then went to school/OJT program.My tdiu was taken away due to yearly salary, but once the training aspect was over and I had to work I’m having difficulty doing my job due to my PTSD symptoms if I leave my job due to my disability would it affect me applying for tdiu again in the future?

I would like to know also. I'm in the middle of my tdiu claim and working with Voc rehab at the same time. If I end up getting work through voc rehab but can't keep the job due to my migraine disability will I be able to reapply for tdiu? Haven't been able to keep a job for more than 1.5 years since leaving service.

Can I file a claim for non hodgkin's lymphoma stage 4, was diagnosed in May 2014? I am not doing Chemo or Radiation, I will not let the VA poison me or cook me with radiation. Active duty 83 to 86....

Thanks so much for all the info you have shared. I have a big question: I just got 100% unemployable T & P on April 14, 2023 and effective date back to 9-20-2022. I have been working 3-4 days a week but paid for 40 hrs. Am I in danger in loosing this benefit now or can I make threshold after the 4-14-2023? Thanks for your reply.

So if I have service connected mstptsd 60% and 10% service connected for injury of a foot and have trouble getting employed as I am over 60 who I be able to qualify for tbiu ? I live in small town with no access to Va medical centers.

Household dependents yes. If your wife lives with you, now its based off 2. If you have a child and wife, now its based off 3. I've asked disability lawyers about this and had it confirmed.

@@rosco3666 Are you saying that in general or are you saying that because his information is incorrect? Based on the research I have done I find him to be correct in saying that the threshold increases per household dependent.
