Lots of practice. Somebody that toured with him told me that he would go to see him in his hotel room and found him asleep with the guitar laying on him I love the energy that he had in his early career Unbelievable player

Happy 80th Birthday to one of the greatest guitarists EVER!! To all those interested, George will be performing at.NJPAC in June 2023; saw this man perform at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ a few years ago & was blown away!!💘 🎶

Thank God 😅 we have these beautiful 😍 recordings of this singing and guitar 🎸 performing GENIUS. I wish I were here at that time I did not know about this Jazz Festival and also I was too young. But from the first time I listened to George Benson I loved and admired 🥰 him so much. Whenever I need to process something emotional 🥹 I play his music and feel reconnected to my true nature again…I love 💕 you Mister BENSON ( and so good 😊 looking and sexy on this particular Swiss stage 😅)

My very first time I saw George perform live in the opera house in New Zealand many years ago to long to remember when in my young teens. Wow Wow I am now 63yrs old he has always been my favourite and most amazing guitarist one of the best that ever held a guitar

I just saw George in Sydney 2 days ago (14/4/22). At 79 years old, he cant move like that any more and he didn't do anything that technical when he played but that voice is still like silk and he can still get the audience up and dancing, clapping and singing along and Michael O'Neill is still playing with him. Just brilliant.

Good example - Beyoncé passed Chick Corea 2 years ago on the Grammy list (chick had 24). It’s not even a contest as to who is a better overall musician.

He was Playboys nominated number one vocalist AND number one guitarist in 1977. He's still amazing as ever! His guitar licks are seemingly endless and flows so naturally from him. Definately the BEST R&B/jazz/bop player ever imho.

I've been listening to Benson since I saw him at the Pythodd Room in Rochester, New York in 1972. When he sang, he didn't even use the microphone. His voice covered the whole room; it was amazing. He's always exciting, fresh and inspiring--a true genius. Long live Benson!!

TheTranslator100 u right about that - while others play in clubs, he still fills arenas like a pop star @ 70 yrs. old. Just wonder how long he can keep going... but, when he passes along he will leave a monster catalog.

j rock He'll keep going as long he's healthy, which should be a few years yet. I don't think he's into the drug thing like most guitar gods, which should help his longevity in the business. When he passes, he'll be considered the greatest Jazz guitarist in history; not only because of his chops, but for being the *only* strait-up Jazz guitarist who's attained an equal level of stardom in both the R&B/Pop and Jazz genres...
