Yeah? Very cool to hear! My thing was the other way around...I (and my friends in high school) was (were) MASSIVE Doors fans! I just adored them from the age of 14 or so on to about when the film came out and I was 16 or 17 (we needed fake ID's to watch this at the film theatre on its opening night)...I didnt' like the film then and I didnt' like it later. It was over-the-top for me. Even though Jim Morrison took things WAY over the top - it was just a bit on the silly side for me....the movie, that is. It actually turned me off of the band after seeing it for a while.

I thought the same. He had to be a method actor to get into that role. He did a good job on the aesthetic side of him but as the main real member have said the film is a Oliver stone fantasy and not fully the truth. But being with a witch that he had that ceremony with and seeing her dark demeanour it's obvious he was infected by dark side more than portrayed especially with he's father being in the military. There's more to Jim and he's story.

Yes, I know he Val didn't portray Jim accurately in every way, but really, who in the world really can anyways. That is why no one can replace Jim Morrison. This was a great film!! Everyone complaining about the inaccuracies, need to get a life! Who really knows the personal side of Jim, but most of the movie portrayed the public side of the band. It was a representation of what the band symbolized during that time....Most people know that Jim was more than a drunk, but he did drink alot, and performed on stage drunk often. Most of their memorable moments happened while they were high or drunk on stage! BTW.......Val needs a retro Oscar for his performance!!

I found this poem about Jim Morrison in a hauntingly beautiful poetry collection: “12:12 Midnight” by Danielle Ever Rose “Through the Breaks” A wild child like the calm before the storm, A mesmerizing danger, Stirs up the world with a whirlwind of words. A lizard king waits in the sun among the desert lords, A spirit and mind mixed together with a poetic nature, Steps through the breaks of time, Opening the door to the other side. Between this world and the next, His voice will be heard forever echoing from the beyond. Tune in or tune out, However you can hear the songs. RIP Jim Morrison

Watch any interview with Jim, he was not at all a drunk or someone who would jump in front of a car for kicks... seems like a few stories got blown out of proportion. He speaks clearly and conveys a really sensitive, thoughtful, and sweet guy. The movie was fun, but probably not at all what his life was really like.

Lots of rock stars have alter egos Jim WAS a shock rocker sometimes he did get stage nerves and did drink to lower his inhibitions for performances when he started out he used to sing with his back to the audience he was not overly confident yet he was a bit of a shy poet and that was the other side of Jim he was an intellectual and smart kids sometimes have to act wild to be accepted by their peers or he would have been dismissed as another beatnick nerd but he looked hot in leather pants and was willing to be crude to entertain. People who don't like the movie probably did not read the book it was based on either lots of the accounts are by Ray who knew him very well.

Aye, The Doors, Jim Morrison...what a phase of my life that was, being infatuated by it all especially because I identified or related to Jim's darkness. And it was the first time I really ever related to anybody else having drifted through my school years not really fitting in but not really being much bother either. And still to this day, I don't fit in, something is missing in me, that joie de vivre, that deep down feeling of belonging. Val kilmer as Doc Holliday and also as an excellent Jim Morrison were, I thought the best two performances iv ever seen Val Kilmer do..without a doubt.Watching the making of the doors film I was amazed at how Val Kilmer's singing voice is so close to Jim's,when changing between the two you can't really tell without properly listening, when Jim stops singing and Val starts.I'm not a big lover of the film but credit where its due I suppose...But hey Jim Morrison will always be untouchable in talent and natural ability to me.. hands down. RIP James Douglas Morrison... Poet.

Though the movie may not have been 110% accurate (which movie is?), I think Oliver Stone did a sterling job. Especially at giving those of us who weren't there a sense of what it was like, even if the Doors as a 60's phenomenon are hard to understand out of context. Val Kilmer met Jim as a kid, and Oliver Stone studied film with him at UCLA. Val's insight into his character, and the magnitude of Jim's alcoholic self-loathing are very impressive. 👍🌵💗

I think Val is much more 'preppy' than Jim was, but what an incredible job he did portraying him!

His face was very close but his body was different. Morrison had skinny legs & a skinny ass. Kilmer's legs & ass were stocky.

Hollywood never gives Oscars to films like this, but Val deserved it very very much. He even sang all songs in film himself, thats amazing!

I'm a huge fan of both Jim Morrison and Val Kilmer. I've spent many, many hours watching and listening to both performers. The Doors has been my favorite band since I first discovered them through this movie 15 years ago. I hate to see Val in such poor health.

I was VERY blessed my parents introduced me to the Doors in utero. Plus I saw the movie with my parents. Then watched Top Gun when I was 12 or 13. I told my parents I “thought Jim Morrison was dead. & WHAT DID HE DO TO HIS HAIR??” 😆 no joke.
