I've been coming back to this video since what it feels like a completely different life to me (since 2010). I remember it first came out because I already a big Lisitsa fan! It was also my final piano course exam repertoire's sonata. Brings back so many memories! I used to watch this almost every day this back when I was studying it. Love Valentina's interpretations! ❤

I don't think Valentina will ever know how much I look up to her performance of this. I've watched these three movements of her playing for almost 10 years. I have learned the first two movements because of her. No one else plays Beethoven with this beautiful passion.

Thomas Headley thanks that is true. It can be difficult I guess every one is different. Never thought music could lead to destruction as the first two movements of this piece singlehandedly kept me alive in some of my most darkest days. This music speaks to my core and every week if it was ALL I could do, I just learnt one bar. One by one. And then I could play it. It was my only source of happiness and beauty for a long time so I can’t really understand that frame of mind.

@@Thvll Interesting piece you mention, the Chopin etude, it's actually the first video of Lisistza's that I ever watched some years ago which started my interest in her. It was stunning to me for many reasons, not the least of which is because I had never actually heard the piece before, but since having listened to many, many others play it, I can say it is one of the very best I have ever heard, probably just behind Pollini's performance.

@MrJustin1232000

Zalera In my opinion, referring to her as “Valentina” would be considered more disrespectful than “this person” because you are saying her name from a stance where you are either friends with her or at such a musical talent that she matches your skill as a colleague or peer. Using her last name, “Lisitsa,” would be more appropriate because it gives her a professional stance when being mentioned in third person. There is a reason why most essays require people to speak about authors using their surnames instead of their first names, and this is that exact reason.

I started learning moonlight sonata back in high school, and finished mov 1, 2, and a little past the first page of the 3rd mov. Then I stopped playing piano altogether for nearly a decade after leaving for university and doing other life things. But I recently got back into piano by some miracle, and was determined to relearn mov 1 and 2 (a surprising amount of muscle memory came back to me), and am on the road to learning the rest of mov 3. I keep coming back to your video for inspiration, pausing and replaying and slowing down to catch how exactly you do it because in my opinion this is the best and my favorite rendition of this piece. The way your fingers just fly and dance across the keys with sometimes tender and sometimes fiery strokes, and insane emotion and dynamics and clarity. Thanks for your years of love and experience and practice in music to bring us your moonlight sonata :) Love from Canada
