Valentino Rossi on $163 million tax evasion claim

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi recalls first learning the Italian government claimed he owed roughly $163 million in back taxes. The investigation was linked to Rossi's decision to move to London in 2000. Rossi explains how he worked to resolve the claim and how the hardship showed him the difficulties of mixing business with friendships.

12M from Movistar Yamaha for 4 years (2013-2017), that's base annual salary. There's the 600K per race as well. It was reduced to 10M base salary in in Monster Energy Yamaha (2018-2020) and 500K per race..

I really dont understand why we have to pay taxes. Everything we buy is taxed. Why tax on the income too of the salaried too? Why also tax those who made their money abroad? They brought back the country more money to use and buy taxed items and food.

Exactly! You pointed to a good point! Most taxes go to cover the cost of bureaucracy itself and has nothing to do with returning services to the taxpayer. That's not much different than theft.

the figure included fines and penalties, Rossi then made an agreement with the Italian tax authorities and paid around € 35 million for everything. Many sportsmen make a fictitious residence in Monte Carlo or other tax havens, but then in reality they continue to live in Italy, Spain, France, but this is not allowed. In this case Valentino thought it was legal in London as part of the European Community.
