Phillip Sear plays #16 from a set of 24 Preludes by the Uzbekistan-resident Turkmen pianist and composer Valeriy Saparov (1947- ).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valeriy Saparov (1947- ) studied in Ashgabat and Tashkent, and is currently a professor at the Tashkent Conservatory (pictured on the thumbnail), where his specialisms include conducting , jazz, improvisation and piano. This set of preludes-written/revised at various dates in the early 2000s-was modestly conceived as an introduction to various jazz idioms for educational use at conservatories and music colleges, but there are some excellent concert pieces included in it. This one - from 2009 - has a hint of 'White Christmas' near the beginning of the main theme!
