Revision 3/8/22: Attacking rocks no longer levels up weapon skills.

You can make yourself an archery target out of a round shield and practice shooting at different distances while you level up .

Ffs, started Valheim 3 Days ago. got all the stuff the "normal" way with building a Forge, killing the first Boss etc. Took me ages.

comfort lvl doesnt increase Exp bonus u allways get 50% if u are rested

I believe you can only get the backstab bonus the very first time an enemy takes damage. ie you wont get it the second time you enter the cave and you wont even get it if someone else in your party hits the enemy first. I think :)

Don't forget that some of the stone towers also have furniture you can break for fine wood. Granted, it's only 1 or 2 pieces. If you are a really ballsy lad, if you find a Draugr Camp, you can break down the furniture inside the longhall which should have a lot.

The smallest shelter you find in the forest has core wood as well.

Excellent, Danny! I was unaware of much of these tips, including the shipwrecks, the rock trick for archery 🏹 & the use of tree on tree violence to get fine wood 🪵. Ya know something else I just found out about (I am a console player, so haven’t played this myself to be able to make quicker discoveries)? I had previously seen Odin skulking around the world looking like the Grim Reaper or a wraith. But, I just saw someone look into the sky as Thor was riding by on a goat 🐐 🐐 🛷 sleigh like a Norse Santa 🎅🏼. It was really a far away blur, but he was there. And, I think in Norse mythology, it’s usually Odin whose like a Santa. But, still...it was pretty cool 😎.

Just a tip, you do more damage to trolls if you shoot them in the belly instead of the head, each enemy has a different weak spot, even bosses

I started a new character a few days ago and basically didn't do anything after crafting my first bow until I got my bow skill up to 75 first. LOL, talk about EZ mode! I hear they're thinking of nerfing the bow damage but I hope they reconsider. I know bows and arrows do a lot of damage in this game, but unlike swords/axes/maces/spears they use resources every time you shoot so I feel it's a fair trade off. I use the bow almost exclusively and mostly only use the melee weapons when I need to get rid of a bunch of pesky greydwarves or skellys. Once you get frost arrows it becomes pretty OP, but those resources are a pain in the butt to farm so like I said, I feel it's a fair trade off because of the resource consumption. Farming the frost glands and obsidian required is a bit tedious, but you're almost untouchable with frost arrows because of the freeze effect. They aren't needed for the death mosquitoes as even a wooden arrow will one shot them easily, but against Lox and Fullings the frost arrows are amazing and make Bonemass much less painful too if you go ahead and make sure you have them before fighting him. I had no idea breaking a shipwreck gave fine wood! You just made getting that bow early much much easier for us!

Great guide! Lots of useful info. I'll have to try that trick to get fine wood. But to gettroll armour, dont you need skeleton bones too? Did you include how to get those parts early too, and I missed it?

Great video tutorial, but has the Bow Skill Levelling trick been patched out? I built my house around a rock. I am comfort level 7. I am not leveling anywhere close to what you show in the video. It takes 40 - 50 arrows before I get one level. The leveling is not any faster than standing outside and shooting at a rock. Do I have to have grass around my rock like you show in your video?

Please take this video down or modify it to remove skill leveling tips. You have to damage creatures to level up now.

ESO drinking game. Do a shot when he says "actually"

You can actually kill trolls much easier no real kiting needed. Let him come up to you, he will stop a couple meters away. When he starts to swing just step back 2 steps and then go forward 2 steps to your old position and fire an arrow. He has quite a delay between his attacks so you have enough time to do this. Practice it without shooting at first a couple times till you feel you have it down if you feel uneasy at first. Then wait for him to swing again, step back two steps, go forward again and fire. Rinse and repeat till he is dead. The troll will not move at all from his spot if you do it right. Just beware of stonethrow /AoE attack, for that this still works if timed right, if you want to be on the safe side, don't step forward after going back or just dodge roll back. That way he will move a little (so in a cave can be a bit tricky) but not by much. Just wait for him to come towards you and stop to start his attack again and yada yada yada. You can also do this with a spear and throw it each time after he attacked, then step in a bit closer to pick it up again and stap a bit back to the starting position. Using a bow in the beginning really isn't worth it so much other than for hunting (which you can do just fine with the first bow). Rather get a shield and a spear and throw (special attack) and pick it up again. You can easily kill the first boss like this, no kiting stuff needed, just block (not even parry) his attacks and you are gucci. Of course if being the sneaky bow guy is your thing, have at it man ;-) after all fun is the first goal here ^^ Be aware that you will need a gazillion arrows to get that skill up really high.

As of 2023 they obviously patched the exploit where you could roll a birch log into a hard surface. You can see all the little zeroes coming off of it.

I like the guide it’s great. I would say in future guides don’t bother explaining where the Black Forest forest is, unless you never played the game before it’s pretty straight forward.

I just spent two game days doing this and idk how many stacks of arrows and the bar for leveling the skill simply won't go up. have they changed it so it MUST be living things you are hitting now?

Y'all should find out how to automate this process of farming your skill. Saves you on half the tediousness of this process. The chopping wood part wood take a quite a bit of code though. Pyautogui. Or any gui automation will help. Cause this might be something you will be doing a lot a lot.
