However I think its fine to do this internally, within your business. Get shit done fast, go! With customers, you want to be fast and steady aswell, but watch the timing. I'm in their personal space and I never want them to feel uncomfortable or uneasy in their own homes because I'm coming off like I'm in a rush (even if I am) or like I deserve their work and their losing out of they don't pick me (even though I do because I'm good at what I do). I think it was Steve Jobs that said that the moment you have all the information, you should make a decision in the next 5 minutes. Even if it is a multi-billion dollar decision. It might be a 50/50 decision where the wrong choice can cost you a ton of money, but if you have all the information, delaying won't let you make a better decision. You just waste time and cause yourself extra stress while you think about it over and over again. Deciding and acting fast actually saves you time. Delaying something until after the New Year... you still have to do it after the New Year. Just do it now. You have to accept the fact that sometimes your best informed choice will be wrong, but acting fast gives you more time to fix it.

Amazing video. I sometimes get ridiculed for being “too fast” with things, but there’s a reason to be fast. Getting your dinner order FAST is good, arriving to work FAST on time is good, becoming wealthy FAST is good. But there needs to be a balance with being fast and being effective. Fast can breed sloppiness if done incorrectly, but if you’re fast with prestigious actions success will fall in your hands easily.

Patrick, I completely agree and enjoy the majority of your videos and the message they convey. Personally, I'm very much into the "move quickly" mentality. However, for certain situations, in particular, your conversation with the publishing company, it comes down to prioritization. Just playing devil's advocate here, what if the owner of this publishing company doesn't want to seem too eager to speak with you because he knows you're interested in potentially buying his company. If he shows that he is too eager and/or "moving quickly", it will show weakness on his end and subconsciously give you the impression that he would accept your first offer(which is most likely going to be a lower offer). Perhaps in this particular case, he is interested in speaking with you but doesn't want to come off as being too eager. My point is, while I agree with the overall message of moving quickly and getting things done in a timely manner, sometimes not to move quickly is a strategic move within the overall bigger picture.

This is one of the first lessons in Hustlers University. Speed is key for real
@tfspod
@tfspod Жыл бұрын
It's true that speed can be an important factor in many areas of life. In some cases, being able to act quickly or respond quickly can give you an advantage or allow you to take advantage of opportunities that may not be available for long. However, it's also important to balance the need for speed with other considerations, such as accuracy, thoroughness, and safety. Sometimes, taking the time to think things through or to double-check your work can be more beneficial in the long run than acting quickly without taking the necessary precautions. Ultimately, the key is to find the right balance between speed and other important considerations, and to be mindful of the specific context and goals of the task at hand.

I’ve always worked with urgency and assess the world of probability. If 60% or more on my side, I go all in into it. However, a manager used to tell me to slow down and determine pros and cons before moving forward. That was 10 years ago. If I assess situation, I’m way ahead now by acting quickly. Sure, I’ve failed couple of times and should have slowed down to avoid certain things. However, because of this, the 60% made me 60% better as a person and professional!

I’m 24 years old from South Africa. I worked as a griller for literally a year but in that year I used to go to work on my off days to clean and do work I couldn’t do when I was on shift. When things needed to be done I would go out of my way to get things done immediately. A year later I got promoted to floor manager, still kept the same mentality and got moved to another store but this time I had to run 2 shops(Fishaways and Steers which are next to each other merged into one)with literally little experience. The stock counts, customer complaints, the stress from staff but one thing I’m always organized and out of the box thinker. I had those shops under my wings like I owned the franchise. It’s a few months later and I’m again being given another position at Debonairs Pizza cause my boss owns about 7 shops and is now buying 2 more. Because I get things done he is reliant on me to get things done.

I always thought I was missing something when clients or workers around me would be taking time off and acting without urgency. "You need to give yourself me time", "You deserve rest", "Everybody is off today, so why do I need to work." Now I realize it's an asset. I'm not a workaholic, but I'd rather do something now than just put it off until tomorrow. I have no rules around when I should work or do things. If I need rest, my body will tell me. Otherwise I march forward. Appreciate you putting this in context with real examples. Certainly helps me understand the mindset better.

Yup. Finally someone understands it. He says - “going going going and still spend time with family” ….. ummm no. That’s not possible. When you spend one hour in meeting, that’s one hour you don’t spend with family. And for some of us, family is higher priority. Watching a Christmas movie with kids is something me and my kids will remember even 30 years from now. Scoring a business deal is not something that adds to long term memory for my children …. So yeah, the deal can wait after new year. This guy is still giving speeches that were relevant in 2000s. Over time, this corporate culture of always working has caused mental issues (burn out, lack of time spent with family, etc etc). Which is why lot of companies are moving towards prioritizing a balanced work life - personal life. Those days are gone when someone who said - “I won’t work during Christmas and new year eve” - used to be labeled as unmotivated. My company prefers that nobody asks for any work related favors during holidays. And I work in a major software company.

The point is well taken, of course, and saying that, there should be a healthy medium. Burning oneself out is seldom worth it, to the Doer or those many who are depending on that person.

Pat Love your stuff, been watching for many years and i couldn't agree more. I set myself a long term goal to hit before 2023 which was very hard to achieve, and on Dec. 31st I hit it but on that same day i felt like i wasn't ready but tried anyway, and success! But i'm also ready to go the next day after a huge accomplishment because I know deep down I don't need to relax or need a break. What I can add to this is make sure you reward yourself too! Take breaks. If you don't feel a huge need to take a break then don't, if there is more gas in the tank than use it just make sure you aren't running on empty.

This is great advice for those that want to hustle and make work their life for a season. However long term this is not sustainable or great idea because it leads to burnout especially if your priorities are work before everything else. The older you get, the more you realize that quality time with your family and having good health are way more important. It’s all about where your priorities are. I want to be urgent to love my family and take care of my health. Hustle life is not the most fulfilled life imo.

I think people shouldnt take this literally. Like you can have this lifestyle without have big visions. It certainly is a better way to live than to mope around lazily. You might actually be doing it already in your life without even realizing it. Spending quality time with your family is part of this also. From my experience as a guy, living in that higher gear is our natural state, like we are meant to be busy with our lives, be it work or quality(key word) time with family and friends otherwise depression looms around the corner.

This is something I noticed a long time ago about successful people. What sets them apart from the dreamers is they only talk about what they do, not what they dream. They manage their time in a way that guides them towards forward momentum. They're not dreamers, but doers. I don't mean that they don't have dreams, but they spend more time doing than dreaming. Also, they are not afraid to fail. What they fear most is never giving it a shot, never trying. There is always the chance you will fall flat on your face, but if you don't do anything you'll just stand still and keep dreaming.

I love it and for me it’s not about the Money it’s about taking care of my People who take care of me because at the end the day I am only as good as the people I have pushing work out.

It sounds like you have a lot of experience in the construction industry and have been successful in building a successful business. It's great to hear that you have a strong sense of responsibility towards your employees and that you value the role they play in your success. Maintaining a positive and supportive work environment can be key to retaining good employees and ensuring that your business runs smoothly. By taking care of your people and providing them with the support and resources they need to succeed, you can help build a strong and effective team. It's also important to remember to take care of yourself and not to overextend yourself. While hard work and dedication can be important, it's also important to find a healthy balance and to make time for rest and relaxation. Taking care of yourself can help you stay energized and focused, and can ultimately lead to better outcomes for both you and your business.

100% agree Pat. But I think theres specific scenarios to tune it down. Imagine doing a sale, and ur constantly replying them within a minute. like imagine this to your date. It heavily signals LOW VALUE. I'm going to message someone if he consistently gets back to me within minutes that guys too reactive, or might be needy. However I think its fine to do this internally, within your business. Get shit done fast, go! With customers, you want to be fast and steady aswell, but watch the timing. If the client messages me at 11pm and its routine stuff not important, tmr ill reply. I may have seen the message, but I'm not going to reply.

There are quick Vs. deep thinkers. Some problems require deep diving and looking from different angles, not just intuition and reflex.
@tfspod
@tfspod Жыл бұрын
It's true that different situations and problems may require different approaches to thinking and problem-solving. In some cases, quick thinking and the ability to make decisions quickly can be valuable, particularly in fast-paced or high-stress situations. However, in other cases, more careful and thorough thinking may be necessary. This may involve looking at a problem from multiple angles, considering a range of options, and taking the time to gather and analyze information. This type of deep thinking can be especially important when dealing with complex or important issues that require a more nuanced approach. Ultimately, the key is to be able to adapt your thinking style to the specific needs of the situation, and to be able to balance the need for speed with the need for thoroughness and accuracy.

A wise man knows when to move fast, and when he needs to take his time. Sometimes it's greatly beneficial to slow down and let the situation unfold properly because than you can notice things that were hidden while rushing. In my culture urgency is closely connected to fraudulent/unethical business practices, so if someone's trying to rush me from the get go, he's out immediately..
