Why do people keep taking such complex questions and give very simple answers. It's not always yes or no answer.

College isn’t the right path for everyone but generally speaking it is still the general best route for most to go if they are smart about financing it and able to make the most of it. These conversations always seem to ignore the class barriers that lacking a college degree can impose on people in the job market and dating scene, and virtually no one seems to ever talk about all the networking potential college provides. Most of this is just the musings of people who haven’t thought this stuff through and just realize that they weren’t smart about their own college experience, but if you do it right it could easily be one of the best decisions you make still.

@@gaelatriano5996 There isn’t a single right answer for everyone. Deciding to go down a non-college path is as much of a social decision as it is an economic decision. Trade schools and other job training programs can give one access to learning profitable skills, but deciding not to go to college is a “class issue” if you come from an educated family and grew up/live around college-educated people. Those from a working class background and community will not be impacted by this, but kids deliberately choosing to receive less higher education than their most familiar peers are essentially setting themselves up for social ostracism, which most simultaneously won’t be prepared to deal with. Deciding to become “blue collar” means severely limiting your social circles and marriage prospects, irrespective of the potential financial benefits. College is such an important institution for the socialization of young people in the United States that it should never be taken lightly when one is considering an alternative. Honestly, I’ve still yet to see a solid argument against college that isn’t basing itself purely on people who go about enrolling into college in the least coherent way possible, engaging in practices that doomed them from the start.

Clear case of Survivorship bias, just because a few people made it without a degree doesn't mean everyone can. You cannot be a Doctor, Lawyer, CA and other professions without a college degree. Stop listening to people who say you don't need a degree.

Right. She named some of the most brilliant people to make her case. This isn’t the case for everybody. There are plenty of jobs that don’t require degrees nowadays but many jobs still require a degree and a degree can still help you be successful.

And at the same time you can be a plumber, electrician, real estate agent, trucker, government employee, KZfaqr even politician like they say it’s not a one side fits all I believe the main problem is the predatory lending combine with high schools incentives to nudge kids toward that direction even if the kid seem unready or unaware of other routes they can take

@@justathought4675 I 100% agree. Then for instance I grew up in MD, our schools just teach to a test and don’t prepare you for the real world. You have teachers tell you prepare for college without knowing anything about the financial aspect. They are quick to tell you to apply for FAFSA and thats it. So you apply for aid and head off to college not knowing about the crazy interest rates.

It depends, if you aren’t learning any skills then college might be for you. However, trade school or just entering the workforce can be better for others. Some people are only good with their hands, and a college degree doesn’t provide much value for those individuals.

Always someone causing division. When you speak for 5% and apply the rule of the 5% on everyone. Very few people don't need a college degree to succeed. Some people get lousy college degrees that don't get you a job. But the vast majority of people succeed with a useful college degree. I don’t think it's appropriate to apply the same brush to everyone.
