Yeah it's good for a "free" game (game pass) but horrid for a 70$ game, some people might have actually preordered this in Steam, i feel for them.

Probably a combination of it being an Xbox exclusive from Bethesta, a 30fps cap on console and there are people other than white men in the game. All of these really rile up the loud ones

Just because you like subpar products doesn't mean people aren't allowed to criticize them. Calling every critic a hater/mad just makes you look like a tool that can only think "CONSUME PRODUCT". General consensus is the game was rushed, most likely to hit quarterly goals and you can tell, from the gameplay to the constant bugs to the almost Impact font used in some of the text. You can like mediocre/bad stuff, that's fine, just don't attack anyone who actually expects quality when buying something from a developer team with "prestige", again it only makes you look childish at best or a corporate shill at worst.

As someone who absolutely loved Dishonored 2, it just confuses me as to why Arkane would go down this route when their games are so well known for being linear, story driven, stealth, magical abilities genres. I feel like Deathloop was already pushing the letter with its more heavy emphasis on gunfights, but this is straight up all guns, with magical abilities playing second fiddle. I get wanting to try new things but there's a reason Arkane so well known for what they've already made. Because it works, and it works incredibly well. On the plus side, if this really does flop hard, maybe they might go back to their comfort zone and we could potentially get Dishonored 3. Here's hoping

@@MultiFilmstudiosThe problem with Arkane is that they keep spending loads of time and money making some of the greatest immersive sims of their generation and then failing to translate that into sales. Aside from a somewhat rushed ending, Prey was a masterpiece, and yet had lukewarm popular traction. Honestly, I think the numbers just aren't adding up and they're trying to break into more classically popular genres, but they clearly haven't found their breakout here...and in game dev circles there's only so many sequential underperformers you get.

@@MultiFilmstudios I can only assume that...well, they just didn't sell, and/or Microsoft/Bethesda wanted to get in on the multiplayer looter-shooter thing, and Arkane Austin was the closest number they could dial. But, fair is fair, and I don't think there's ever been any indication that the latter might be the case (AFAIK), while the former is definitely, certifiably true. Like, the original _Deus Ex_ and _Thief_ are my all-time favourite games - so are _Dishonoured 2,_ _Death of the Outsider,_ and _Prey_ - but there's a reason why those franchises had so many gaps in their résumé, and why they struggled to even maintain their existence. Immersive sim, as wonderful a genre as it is, just doesn't sell; it's honestly a miracle that _Dishonoured_ managed to be as big a hit as it was, but I think it also thrived on being something as simple as, "stealth action game with magical powers," that when _Dishonoured 2_ expanded on the immersive sim elements, it didn't quite recapture the mass market's attention (I'm pretty sure _Dishonoured 2_ was, officially, not a commercial success). The same reason why the most recognisable, mainstream immersive sim title today is _BioShock,_ a series of games that were mostly straightforward FPS (not derogatory, because, judging by the series' success, they clearly did something right, there). And given the current state of the industry, I honestly don't think a commercial failure will be a wake-up call for them to go back to their roots - especially if it's true that this _is_ their attempt to make a quick, mainstream money, presumably so that they can keep making those, "niche," idealistic projects that they want to make - it seems more likely that they'll just stop being a thing, or, at best, be redirected into support work by the larger companies that own them. I don't know. Of course I hope I'm _way_ off the mark, but it's truly a precarious situation.

@@jeffreywells1832 Its a bit weird how a game so well received can also be a failure, sales wise. I always assumed releases from Arkane were commercial successes just based on the level of popularity. Unfortunately, it does seem like the go to genre for a quick buck is a paint-by-numbers shooter. It's pretty clear, though that this isn't their area of expertise. Arkane simply aren't a fps game company, and it's unfortunate that they supposedly have to be in order to continue operating

@@bobbyfernando I really hope you're right, but if they are in it for the long run, I honestly think it'll be a game studio I'll be dropping. As much as I love their previous work, if I'm not interested in what they're bringing out now, or they're obviously going in the direction of mainstream cookie-cutter game, they'll lose my attention. The worst thing about it is that it's not even their fault. Arkane is another indie studio caught in the machinery of modern video game production. They kind of have to follow the sales trends in order to stay afloat in this economy.

@@Poppa_Capinyoaz I rarely ever pay full price for a game these days. I'd been curious about Biomutant and wanted it for a while, but I also knew it was overpriced. I bought it last week finally, because it was down to just $16 or so on the PS Store and I'm fine with that price. I also rarely ever pre-order games given how things tend to go with AAA or even AA games now. Elden Ring has been my only recent pre-order and it was worth it, but I also know what to expect with FromSoftware. I'm waiting on Armored Core VI though, but that's because I've never played a mech game and am not entirely sure if I'll enjoy it.

And didnt they delay this a full year to "give it the polish it deserves"?? What was the state of this a year ago???! Lol

it's a little bit overhyped but the game is also pretty underbaked imo. It doesn't have punchy gameplay like a Far Cry, cool guns and skills like a Destiny or even the immersive sim worldbuilding like a Prey. I'd put it in the column of Could Be Good With Some Patches.

Even worse than that, even back in 1998 AI was good enough to recognise you were in cover and do things to flush you out, they can't even pathfind around cars, ffs.

Both this and Deathloop had been in production for quite a while by the time the Microsoft acquisition happened so I'm not sure that's the whole issue. Apparently Redfall was originally planned to have microtransactions so it was probably Arkane's approach to a looter shooter / Destiny clone, then got stripped back at some point (probably Microsoft's decision but hard to know).

To be fair, Bethesda already started down this path before the acquisition. Wolfenstein Youngblood and Fallout 76 were very much in this same category but Microsoft really needs to start having some oversight on the games they’re putting out because it’s just embarrassing at this point.

@@alsopsarchive5384 I'd forgotten all about Wolfenstein Youngbloods. And actually that has similarities to Redfall - interesting concept but executed in a way that made the game bland and frustrating.

Talent drain most likely. The people who made Dishonored and Prey most likely aren't with Arkane anymore. The videogane industry suffers a lot from springboarding (people jumping from company to company for a slighter higher paying job/better position) and just straight up burn out.

The playable characters designs are so cliched with obvious design choices too.

i think almost everyone who isnt a bit familiar with the channel would assume that its an official xbox channel lol. and iirc they have mentioned that this fact has caused some kind of minor issue with sponsored content before so they had to host the content on their sister channel or something like that.

Believe some of y'all had a burgeoning platform called Inside Xbox some years back? Stuff didn't work out so you flipped the name to O.X. which made good sense in the media space at the time, and also it does say Outside, which does rather tell the world where they sit relative to official xboxery and microsoftishness. The other brand with Rob and Rosie et all has an official tie to Sony, hence they push the official line sometimes. The only official line on OX seems to be the one regularly straddled by Jane that separates war crimes from unavoidable collateral damage. In games. No surviving witnesses can say otherwise.
