If you're new to Vampire: the Masquerade, or are looking for further inspiration on how to play a Tremere, hopefully this video will provide what you're looking for.
The Tremere are feared. Their power over the Blood is matched by few and they have a history of going to great lengths, testing the boundaries of the decent and the limits of Reality itself to grow ever more powerful.
Few clans can match their cohesion, their dedication and their drive. They crush any opposition against them, fearing not to tread where even the oldest Kindred have doubts.
Yet with such great power comes hubris, and displeasure. Some chafe under the strict hierarchy of the Pyramid, and should the heads of this Hydra be removed from its body, who can tell where the Warlocks will turn?
Hopefully this will provide some new insight into the clan of Tremere, and thank you for watching.

I absolutely love the intro and the outro and most of the info here is solid, but I've some feedback on what I think would also be useful for players. You focus a lot on the general history of the Clan and a bit on how the houses work, but I think it would be nice for new players to get an idea on what the houses stand for in more detail. For example, you could delve a bit into hermetic magic and what it's paradigm is and why it's the holy grail for House Tremere, and for Carna maybe you could quote some pagan religions to inspire players. The advice most people enjoyed from me is telling them exactly how to roleplay with rituals and chants,with magickal work and summoning, and when you couple that with some research you could very dramatically and believably play as a thaumatirgist. I also like to tell people never to play fully into the Clan or house stereotype, but to ensure that at least one of the Clan qualities is present in the character. For example, you could be a promiscuous, highly sociable, slimy, cunning and unreliable warlock (so essentially a Toreador) but still be obsessed with collecting books even if you don't read them Or you could be a rigid, traditionalist, bitter academic who adheres to the old ways but can't stand his peers so he defected to House Carna. He probably wouldn't buy anything Carna says but he'd be a political refugee. I feel like V5 is a Hogwarts situation for the Tremere where which House you choose can have a big impact on how you play and I think that should always be emphasised :3

You're absolute right, I have a hard time letting go of history and culture of a clan because when I make my character I always like to envision how I would play being someone who was told, or even lived through, all this, but I agree with you that I could have gotten much more practical. I'll keep this in mind for my future videos, thank you so much for the help!

@@ThePrimogen for the Tremere clan history matters a lot so when you are embraced totally makes sense to be explored. But beyond that you can brainstorm some archetypes, both stereotypical and subversive, then suggest some loresheets to back up specific concepts, and maybe outline some core themes or attributes to said clan so that the player can maybe choose one to represent how the Clan culture has affected them and then diversify their concept further.

@Jimmy Jazz I love V20 but V5 has its merits and opens up a lot of roleplaying concepts, I personally enjoy a lot of the plot changes and the shake-up of the status quo. There was very little justification why clan Tremere didn't just rule the world, now they have actual tangible goals in trying to restore their power or to subvert and betray their clan. Either way, it's good stuff.

Wow! An astoundingly delicious intro. Makes me imagine the Tremere play their own 'Masquerade' in the Camarilla, offering just enough boasting to provoke the unmindful into underestimating them while reminding the rest that the Usurper Clan are forever playing 3 moves ahead of any who would challenge them.

I've always considered the Tremere's clan weakness to be their hubris. They know how strong they are, so they often overestimate their capabilities and underestimate their foes. It's a pity someone decided to up the ante with the bombing of the Vienna chantry. ;)

Respect is not fear. Respect is awe. Yes, fear is a part of awe, but the man who says they're the same, is a fool. Fear for the Tremere is utilized only towards those outside of the clan. Inside, you are taught to respect, a student who fears his teacher, is afraid to ask, a student who is afraid to ask learns nothing, a student that learns nothing is useless. The same goes for teachers; a teacher who is feared is, consequently, useless. Fear is useless, Respect is everything. The Pyramid is not there so you can climb it, climbing a pyramid damages the pyramid. The pyramid exists because it is the most stable structure in existence and if a stone can no longer hold up the rest of the structure, that stone must be replaced with a stone that fits better. it is the true embodiment of "Survival of the fittest" the best fit will survive. It does not matter which level you represent, all levels are important and must be fitted with the appropriate stones and respected accordingly. Any man or woman who does not understand this, is not fit to be a Tremere. And the higher up the pyramid you get, the more this should be emphasized, a regent who does not respect his grunts, is unfit as a regent. Unfortunately this is oft forgotten, as shown by the intro of this vid. As an avid Tremere, I would not respect this Regent. Yes I would do his bidding, but I would also work, tirelessly and ( most importantly) in secret, to supplant this "Weak Stone" in favor of a better "fit", whether this be me or anyone else is irrelevant. THIS in my mind is the true strength of Clan Tremere. Arbitrium Vincit Omnia

I'm consistently impressed by how much content White Wolf takes from Hermeticism, Hermes Trismegistus, The Emerald Tablet and The Golden Dawn. Even the house Ipsissimus is one of the ranks within TGD. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if one of the current members of TGD had a hand in writing the material for the games.

I miss playing Vampire! My character was a super model (game master's idea,) that also happened to be of the Vedma Bloodline, Circle of The Crone Covenant! It was really just a way for me to allow myself to be a uppity, snarky, unfiltered bitch with fangs! So fun!

But, it's acceptable behavior for a Blood Elf Shadow Priest! Besides, anyone from my guild chat or private chat, will tell you that I'm about the nicest guy that you'll meet. It's all in the spirit of fun! And if I play characters, I try to make them different than the real me, in the real world. What I take from this video is, that even a very new and weak Tremere can call on the clan's unity when being disrespected or threatend by others. It's kind of being in a gang with a really bad rep nobody wants to mess with. Playing this card may deescalate some situation before things get too dire. On the other side, the Pyramid is rigid, but corrupted. So you better check your individual loyalties: How did you get into the Clan? What worth do you have? On what terms are you with your Sire and peers? What is your goal in unlife? Clinbing the top? Simply survive the rivalries (by working harder - or working dirtier)? Or dou you plan to use your rather unmonitored low rank to follow your own agenda? I'm a bit surprised, that there was not much about thaumaturgy paths in the video. These make for a very interesting skillset which may reflect your position inside the clan (protection sigils, damage/combat, espionage, information gathering from blood samples and so on). There are A LOT of options and all sound tempting, but choose carefully and combine with rituals that make sense for your chars background and aspirations.

quick question : i have an idea for a tremere vampire who was a ghoul and bodyguard among the higher ups, he almost died, or more accurately did die, in a sabbat attack and was given the gift of un-death as a way to keep such a loyal guard around. the question is, is this a good back story for a more combat focused tremere? if yes give me some pointers on how to play it please, if no please tell me why or what clain it would be better suited for.

I certainly think this sounds like a good Tremere character! That being said, if he was embraced pre-fall of Vienna, despite the situation of his creation, he will have had to undergo all the trials and tribulations of an Apprentice as well. He may also receive unkind treatment due to the circumstances of his embrace and may be considered more expendable than those who were chosen more carefully. Sorry for the late reply! :(

@@ThePrimogen the late reply is fine, and i am not dismissing him going through being an apprentice, if i remember right that is how they get their powers. as far as him being treated unkindly that might be a good jumping off point for him to join the others, kind a like him trying to show the others he is worthy of his gifts and that i was not just out of petty. ehter way the idea on paper is to have a more combat focused temere that is an outcast and trying to prove his worth.

I started playing a tremere in V20 in a OS and we switched to the V5 rules and that we are playing in Vienna. I SHOULD'VE seen what my GM hat in mind... He said I can ignore the new flaws of the Tremere and focus on V20 WELL WELL WELL - guess who is playing the Fall of Vienna now... (Honestly, I LOVE it - But my character has no idea what happened. We had to end last session after my character lost his mind while his blood bounds broke... Can't wait to see what happens next!)

Any theories on what cause the 2008 siege on their chantry? Quite odd for a group of mages getting raided by humans.

My personal theories (I have two) are: a) The Banu Haqim desired to secure their position in the Camarilla and the Tremere were opposed to them joining. The BH joining were also predominately Viziers and Sorcerers, so to make themselves more interesting to the Ivory Tower, they spilled the location of the Vienna Chantry to the Vatican / Society of St. Leopold / SI and watched the fireworks. With the Tremere in disarray, there's more wiggle room for the BH and their Blood Sorcery to shine. b) Tremere, in the body of Goratrix, arranged for the destruction of the Chantry as he considered it beyond salvation, Saulot in Tremere's body having the loyalty of most, if not all, of the Clan. By cutting off its head, and removing the collective blood bond, there would be an easier time for him to rebuild the clan, eventually establishing a new order. Karl Schreck is a loyal Tremere, so "Goratrix" has no problem to work alongside him, especially if Karl picks up the more traditional Tremere and "Goratrix" picks up those who may be a little bit more ambitious and careless. That would leave Carna and House Ipsissimus as the only two Houses who are "free" from Tremere's influence. Those are just my theories however! It's also possible Tremere leaked the info to the Banu Haqim in order to have them be the "fall guys" in case anyone found out. Plans within plans within plans.

@@ThePrimogen Those are interesting theories in deed. And i would like to add the fact that the heads of the three houses all are "listening" voices that tells them things, more specificaly that the three of them are not "wrong", and that they are allowed to follow diferent paths, but unite when the time is right. Could be a plan of tremere himself, or maybe etrius or the others, doesnt matter. The Clan Tremere may had lost its head... or not, how to truly know?, because now the clan has three "independient" branches, in the middle of the Second Inquisition and the gehena war, this to me helps to ensure that the clan will survive for the future. Theres no more one head to cut, but three, and maybe the true head is in hiding, if everybody things its dead, then no one will look for it. Even better now the bloodbond has dissapeared (notice that i didnt say "broken"), severing the *conection* between the foot tremere and the elders, and thus if this was intentional, it wouldnt surprise me that it could make it safer for the elders, in order to avoid mass curses and such. I think that if all of this was, at least in part, a plan of tremere to deal with the current times, it migh be really wise in the end. Each of the three houses are kind of "aligned" to a diferent.. sect or vampiric social circles, so even if one of them is destroyed, the others will endure, and maybe when the dust settles the Piramid will be rebuild again.

How to play a Tremere... Watch Harry Potter and study Lucius Malfoy... Add the element of Vampirism... Another strategy for playing Tremere is too pretend you are playing the embodiment of Quebec City if it was a Vampire, and never apologize for any of your rude behavior. Treat outsiders like they are beneath you at all times, even though you would not even be Kindred if it was not for your usurped superiority.

Well the Tremere are like that kid that shows up late to your birthday party, without a present. Eats your best friends piece of cake, takes the present that your best friend was going to give you... Refuses to share it with anyone, even though it was never really his to begin with. Sings all of the songs wrong, and pretends it’s the right way. Then try’s to make you feel stupid for singing them the correct way, and then applies that same behavior when playing games and snacking.

@@ThePrimogen I like the reply, that's a good one. In all honesty, I never been a fan of the Tremere, of all the "Magic" using clans/bloodlines, I have always preferred the Giovanni, just something cool about Italian gangster necromancers.

The Trimere, also known as "The storyteller has become tired of your thaumaturgical bullshit". Rare is it for a system to have such a blatantly powerful and interesting locked behind such a stalwart RP defense. To the point, that if you don't play one in the good editions, you might as well not even put pips in occult, and I certainly can't reccomend against grabbing arguably the most interesting discipline in the game hard enough. It stands to reason then, that it is one of the few changes I'm quite fond of in the pox that is V5. However the fact that their chantry is effectively the camarilla on steroids story-wise, and you are required to bond yourself to them quite strongly has always pushed me away from them.
