THIS STORY:
“Vampire panic” was alive and well in New England, and they were all too familiar with methods for dealing with the undead. Turning over a body in the grave was the most innocent of solutions, but many resorted to burning the organs, inhaling the smoke or consuming the ash from the organs, or decapitation. But for the villagers of Woodstock, examining the heart was the only way to be sure. When the brothers of the deceased Fredrick Ransom came down with the same affliction, the family and villagers rushed to the graveyard to exhume the young man's corpse. If his heart contained fresh blood, it was removed, taken to the Village Green, and burned.
According to Daniel Ransom, a younger brother who was 3 years old at the time of Frederick’s death, the family had a susceptibility to tuberculosis, which resulted in loss of appetite, a wan appearance, weakness and fatigue - all the hallmarks of what they thought then was vampirism.
“It was said that if the heart of one of the family who died of consumption was taken out and burned, others would be free from it,” he wrote. “And Father, having some faith in the remedy, had the heart of Frederick taken out after he had been buried, and it was burned in Captain Pearson’s blacksmith forge.”
Sadly, the countermeasure failed, and some of Daniel’s remaining family succumbed to the sickness.

My great uncle passed away in 1924. In the mid 1960's, my grandmother did not want him buried alone so had him moved to rest along side my grandfather and herself when the day came. For some reason, his coffin was opened. His body was perfectly intact until the air hit the body. At least now he is resting with family beside him.

Thanks, actually there’s a San Diego author that’s been working on my story for about a year and a half that should be done next year of all of my adventures, so I think I will announce it on the channel when it comes out, why not right?

One of my favourite "Tombstone Stories" was from the South, somewhere near Savannah, GA (1800's) perhaps, where a man was killed by the church bell he was ringing. That it was written on his stone was so odd. The American Colonial cemeteries have some of the best stories.

@@FacesoftheForgotten Roswell GA was one of fav cities for Union generals. So not burned down. They have a ghost story night, great little city in orginal structures and different almost unknown tiny cemeteries very old. can tell you more if interested

I've never thought about the correlation between a consumption patient and how much they resemble drawings of vampires. That makes sense! I'm loving the Revolutionary War graves as well. Wish I could go back in time and meet a few of them. Great video! ❤️

Oh wow those dates are unreal!!! there are a lot of cemeteries in my home town of Milan, Indiana including a civil war cemetery that's is very small on a hill ,they put a guy there every 4th of July who stands watch all day . Would love to show you sometime .

FYI - Rockford Illinois just held a Memorial Service for over 600 forgotten people buried on the Northwest side of Rockford at the Poor farm behind the River Bluff Nursing Home. A 13 year old Boy Scout found it and got permission to clean it up for a project for the Scouts. No markers just numbers. There was an interesting story on 23 News about it. Thought you might be interested in checking it out.

Etching of people's names, other details, date of death, etc still remains so clear on those stones. The lettering and decorations are painstakingly done and have withstood the test of time. Just fascinating to see!

WOW! If you are ever in Calif or New Orleans you should do a vlog on Gram Parsons. He was a signer that influence artist such as the Eagles. He found and got Emmlylou Harris her start. After his death his body was stolen and taken to the desert and burned. Him and his music should not be forgotten! RIP Gram Parsons!

I feel really bad for the family that had loves ones dug up then had stuff like that done. I hope He at peace and I love vampire legend and at one time was into vampires a lot. Great episode. Love the old ones. Hard to wrap your head around the fact they lived in the 1700s. That is almost 400 years ago - some were born. Can you tell me the brand of your 9000 flashlight?. I want to get one. Thank you for entertaining us and i am glad you didn’t get zapped by that electrical fence. You would have had to do the show in a soprano voice. 🤣

A little taste of home. So great. I hope one day you can visit downtown Boston’s Granary Burial ground, where the fabled Mother Goose is buried and quite a few historical figures. Kings Burial Ground is down from there on Tremont Street. I miss the New England area so much.

Revolutionary War and times....what a find of a cemetery. I think these dates are the oldest I’ve seen you report on. The visual effects of the heart and fire are amazing. Brings excitement to the story. Thanks again Ron for a great cemetery adventure!

I actually am fascinated by vampires & have watched & read SO SO much on how they used to think people were vampires & put a stake through their hearts in the coffin , but I have never heard of the heart being taken to the blacksmith ! Oh wow, that's an old cemetery, it's so interesting to see how far back a lot of those stones date back too. It's sad that so many people back then died so young due to all those different diseases that there were back then. I'm so glad you did this video Ron, getting to see those 200 year old gravestones was really nice. I enjoy getting the chance to learn about the history of the past. Stay safe on your trip Ron.🙂💟

Both my parents had TB and were in hospitals specific for Tb patients. This was in the 19 late 1930s early 1940s and each one had a long removed because of Tb

Oh, yes, very interesting! I love exploring cemeteries, especially historic ones. I've gotten my mother addicted to your channel too. Remember, if you're ever near the east end of Kentucky, check out historic Dills Cemetery in Pikeville, the Octavia Hatcher monument in the Pikeville City Cemetery, and the various Hatfield & McCoy cemeteries. Normally I’d be awake still at that time as I’m a hopeless night owl and my sleep pattern is more like American east coast even though I’m in Sweden (so Central European time) lol Just tonight I’m tired, blaming the recent weather change here, I can’t stand when it goes from nice and warm weather to cold and unstable and rain, and we’ve literally gone from a heatwave to only hitting mid to high 60’s within just a few days, and from drought to getting almost 40mm of rain just during one evening and night this week

I have been a cemetery explorer as long as I can remember. My sister was my partner but she has passed away. I haven't been exploring since.

I could walk all day, everyday in silence behind you listening and looking and all these old cemeteries, I walk the old cemeteries myself as the old gravestones are the most beautiful. It was pretty neat to see the gravestones of soldiers from the Revolutionary War! People from that era could never imagine their resting places being filmed and viewed by people all over the world.
