Van Basten was one hell of a footballer. Career ended early because of injury. He was a complete Striker.

exactly. it should be van basten vs say rummenigae if u talking mid 80s.....actually a better head to head might be van basten vs romario.......klinsmann is more comparable to dudes like inzaghi owen and those type of guys

I agree, Klinsmann was very lucky in the German team which is always consistent in the big tournament. Meanwhile, after Euro 88, The Netherlands had never reach the same level, as we can see in 1990 world cup which Netherland qualifying from the group stage without a single win (3 point from 3 match in draw)

Klinsmann is one of my favourite players and he is one of the best centre forwards of the last 30 years no doubt, but Van Basten for me is the most complete centre forward to ever play the game. The best of all time in that position.

There are only a handful of strikers in the history of football better than Van Basten. If it wasn't for injuries he may have gone down as the best ever. Klinsmann was great but one level below at least.

What a magical, magnificent, marvellous, majestic player Juergen Klinsmann was! His prowess, power,courage, vivacity, mental toughness, vulture of vultures in the air,bicyclic kicks and volleys, flying into the penalty box, massive power of head could easily and fabulously net the football into the net were spectacular and spellbound the spectators. Marco Van Basten was a true stricker at first rate basis.

How is this a question??? Van Basten is the best nr 9 ever in historie. I never seen a player who was so complete as him. For example a lewandowski or a Benzema are smal boys in comparing to him and that 2 are worldclass today.

Van Basten may have been the Swan of Utrecht but Klinnmann was the master swan diver. There has never been any more graceful at going down from an imaginary foul.

As usual, the negative talking down of German players. Klinsmann won literally everything. Some of his goals were incredible... bicycle kicks, volleys, free kicks, penalties...just watch his goals. ALWAYS giving it all and even at small clubs with not as great teams he always made the important goals. Both are phenomenal, Klinsmann's UEFA Cup performance under Rehagel was incredible. Van Basten was phenomenal, behind Ronaldo (the Brazil edition) and infront of Romario the second best of all time. Still, Klinsmann at Stuttgart, Inter Milan, FC Bayern and Tottenham Hotspur...always making his goals no matter where he played.

I think Klinsmann is being vastly disrespected here. He was a goal machine. It’s unfair to compare these two. The set piece one should have been Klinsmann. He was always on the end of a free kick or corner with a bullet header, volley or overhead kick. I think they have short memories.

Have to give Klinsmann more credit..he may lack the finesse of MVB, he had a much longer career and being a late bloomer, he never lacked tenacity.

Wait...how the heck did they give the Goals category to Klinsmann?? As others have mentioned, why are these two being compared, it isn't even fair to Klinsmann, with all due respect to him. Let's put this in perspective, Van Basten, although playing nearly half the games that Klinsmann did, scored almost the same exact number of goals Klinsmann did. Think about that for a minute. In all competitions btw, with their national scoring rates being about the same, Klinsmann being better there by a bit. So...how???

van basten was a better scorer than klinsmann. marco scored way more goals, was serie top scorer quite a bit. set pieces, arco scored freekicks, jurgen didnt. marco was also good in the air , but jurgen might have been a better header of the ball

I think most people have never watched a Basten game. They were just misled by the edited video. sure Van Basten’s outstanding performance did shock the world, but just in short time，his performance in most competitions was moderate, but Klinsmann has always maintained a high level. Van Basten has only played in Italian and Dutch leagues, but klinsmannn has played in many leagues, including Germany, Italy, France, and England all succeeded. I don’t think van Basten can succeed in England.
