In this episode we share everything to do with our bed! For some the bedroom is the key part of any build. For us, we worked backwards, why? Because we wanted to make sure we went for there comfiest mattress possible! From Koala! We can honestly say, since being on the road it's the best decision we have made.
We also cover why we went with aluminium, how to cut it down and make a bed frame. But also show you how to install gas struts for under bed storage.
We're not professionals, but we definitely have vision. So if you also happened to be inexperienced like us with building, then this vlog is for you 😊

WHO WE ARE:
We are Alex & James. Originally from the UK, but also citizens of Australia after living there for 5 years. When we left the UK in 2014, we quickly caught the #travelbug and began making memories through video and photo. Our Instagram is where this all began for us @twosometravellers but our love for video is where we really love sharing our adventures.
In 2014 we left the UK to go travelling.
In 2015 we moved to AUSTRALIA.
In 2016 we got engaged in HAWAII.
In 2018 we got married in the PHILIPPINES.
In 2019, we decided to chase our dreams! We quit our jobs, sold our belongings and booked a one day ticket to Asia.
In 2020 we became Australian citizens!

Speedholes in the bed base!!! Also, it helps circulate air in the mattress. I think one piece of plywood on gas struts would lift the whole mattress & base up out of the way. Without having to struggle lifting the mattress while opening each trapdoor

Love your work! Does the length of the Queen just expand and squish to fit the width of the bus? Our bus (we got a week ago!) is 183cm wide and we want to do a mattress the same orientation as yours, but thought we might have to cut it down... You two have provided us with a ton of inspo for our build!

Hey Sam! That's awesome! Ours is actually a double size and it fit PERFECT! We didn't have to cut it down or even squish it in! (we got ours from Koala)

This is so exciting! But I need your guy’s help! I live in the US but my dream is to renovate a Toyota Coaster. Because we don’t have those here (unfortunately they’re so cute!!) I don’t really know, or have a good reference of how big this bus is. Yesterday I was wracking my brain because the numbers on the specs said the Toyota Coaster was as big, if not a little smaller, than a Mercedes Sprinter van with the longest wheelbase, I’m not sure if you could confirm this with me? Or perhaps do a video with dimensions on the bus? I’m not sure, I still can’t wrap my head around it though, so as someone who can’t see these buses in person until I have committed to buying one, it would be HUGE is you could help me out. Much love to you guys, you’re awesome and I love the bus❤️

These buses are typically 2.02Wx6.99Lx2.58H metres and are streets ahead of the sprinter for reliability and longevity.

Hey guys, just about to start on the bed area of our coaster, and I'm considering this setup. Can I ask how things are structurally? When I looked at the aluminum in the hardware store it seemed pretty flimsy? Once all in and reinforced with ply is yours still solid and sound? TIA!

Hey buddy! Honestly aluminium held up like a boss. We did go for slightly thicker aluminium, which was a nightmare to install in terms of the joins, in saying that probably made everything slightly more durable (but reiterate again nightmare to install lol). However in the areas where we went with the slightly thinner aluminium throughout the bud they still held up 🙌🏼 we’d use aluminium again if we did another build 👍🏼

I honestly couldn’t tell you the exact thickness sorry mate. It was nearly 2 years ago 🤦🏻 Pretty sure there’s only two thicknesses you can purchase in that 25x25mm. There is a standard one, which is slightly cheaper. That’s the thinner one.

Hey Guys, Hope you're well. Just bought a bus and wanting to replicate the aluminium bed frame. How has it held up? And is it also fixed to the floor in some way?

Hey Jack! Hope you are well too :) Thats awesome, the fun begins! The bed has been great, no problems, the legs we put on are fixed to the floor with a couple L shape brackets, the top part of the frame is fixed to the bus walls
