Van Gaal is not saying he doesn't want Ten Hag at MU, he is saying that he doesn't want MU for Ten Hag. He says Ten Hag deserves better than MU, and he is right about that. Ten Hag shouldn't be too modest, he should choose a club that is going to play CL, he should choose a club where football comes first and he should choose a club where he will get the time to nurture a team that can play Total Football. All of that is not MU.

Spot on. As a neutral I've seen that for a decade they've had some of the best coaches available at the time, gave them money but still ran the club into chaos by making business decisions not sporting decisions. As long as profits are made trophies are not an issue for the board. What they don't realise is that trophies increase profits, too. See Bayern. They're run by former icons and captains who always make sporting decisions resulting in profits. The United culture has vanished because of Ed W. Both Van G and Jose said that winning any trophy with those teams were amazing achievements. They called Van G boring and Jose boring. It's madness. Overhaul needed from top to bottom and some of those toxic players need to go. Get a few of the old icons in as backroom staff. Who cares what LVG wants?!? If Ten Hag cares about LVGs opinion, he isn't the man for the job. Furthermore, it is not like the lack of a proper football-driven structure at the club has been some closely-guarded secret. This is exactly why Rangnick was put in place - to help change the structure and any prospective manager worth his salt will have asked questions of the interview panel to address his own concerns regarding this.

Well 21/04/22 the commercial club announced ten haag. Presume he has accepted due to promises regarding control of footballing operations, transfers etc but we’ll see. As with every bit of positive news post- May 2013 I assume the people making the decisions at Man United will mess this up and van gaals comments will be proved correct

By appointing Ten Haag, Man United decided to be more like Man City in the way their first team plays football. By appointing Ralf, they wanted their club to play a pressing style, like Liverpool (did) does. . They also hope that by giving Ten Haag control, he would shape the footballing operations of the club in his mould...a bit like how Marcelo accomplished at Leeds'. Personally, I would have signed up James Milner and given him the keys to the club as a player who doubles up as a member of the coaching staff/think-tank. Thus, hitting three birds with one stone in the process...
