One of the few early VH songs that focuses less on Eddie’s solos, or speed. He plays excellent rhythm fills, and those melodic runs at the beginning and end show how versatile he was. You’ll hear the same thing when you listen to ‘Dance The Night Away’.

I gotta throw this out here my dude: Van Halen - Dirty Movies. This is the most underrated Van Halen song off their technical masterpiece "Fair Warning" album. The guitar is an entirely different level, the song has SUCH swag, such groove, and Eddie's guitar work is on this particular song, uncopiable. Why it's not among VH's most popular songs, I'll never understand. Trust me when I say you'll LOVE it.

Oh Man, it is so nice to hear a reaction from someone who knows what they're talking about. The underpinnings of Alex and Michael lay such a solid foundation for the flash of EVH and Diamond Dave that it is easy to miss just how good they really were together. Alex Van Halen's sense of timing is oft overlooked. The guitar effect was a Wah pedal. A "Cry Baby" to be specific, if he used the same one in the studio that he used on stage in '78 - I went to see Black Sabbath and Van Halen was their opener. Not a bad match musically, but the demographics were worlds apart at the time. David Lee Roth didn't impress me much at first but as a guitar player myself I was mesmerized by EVH's playing. I'd seen two hand tapping before (i.e.: Steve Hackett of Genesis) but he was taking it to another level. Anyway, great reaction and I'm glad you had an awesome birthday. Peace! LL&P

'Yes! Van Halen Monday on a Tuesday! Hey Jay, my birthday is the 10th! Happy belated, water brother! Quiz. What style music does VH employ with "Jamie's Cryin?'" Answer: Rumba. VH with Hagar produced bangers too, and worth reactions. "Summer Nights" "In and Out" (live version best), "Best of Both Worlds," "Cabo Wabo," "Runaround," "Judgement Day (Live also best). The "Right Here, Right Now" live recording kicks A.! Does anyone have a P.O. Box for Jay?

Great reaction. This song opened side 2 on the debut. I think Eddie is using his Phase 90 pedal a lot in this song. This one was more commercial, but it has the vibe, the funk, heaviness and fun of the first lineup (with David Lee Roth). Nothing against Sammy Hagar, or that era, but they became more mainstream, and less interesting (for me) then. They were super popular then, so lots of people liked that, but for me, nothing compares to the early VH.

I can't believe you didn't like dreams. That song is one of the sammy era's greatest songs. You have to remember the roth era was 70s and 80s. Where music was more hard rock. When hagar was there in the late 80s thur the 90s, music changed and sammy and eddie saw that. That's why eddie started playing more piano and organ type music. They changed to stay with the times. Hard rock changed to pop or classic rock.

All right, man. Don't think that all the Sammy-era stuff sounds like "Dreams," because it most definitely does not. While I like that song, it is nowhere near my top 10 Sammy-era tunes. I've been a VH fan since it all began. I love it. I dig Dave, but I prefer Sammy. But that's just my preference...no hate for anybody. You have SO many awesome tunes to look forward to...and the best part is that King Edward plays on ALL of them!! Might I suggest that when you do a VH reaction, you do a Dave-era followed immediately by a Sammy-era tune? And if you did it on Tuesdays, you could call it your "VH 2-Fer Tuesdays! Maybe even throw in a Cherone-era song occasionally just to mix things up a bit. Just a thought...keep enjoying the journey!
