@1rwjwith, I read somewhere that the main thing that sunk Ed and Sammy’s relationship was Sammy’s side businesses and interest. Idk how much truth there is to that of course. I think the band had two great front men. Dave was the right guy to launch the band, and Sammy was the right guy to replace him.

I know one thing - Geddy Lee is out there straight up killing it on his live presentations tour he’s been doing for his new memoir, My Effin Life. Each night he has a surprise guest, and the most notable ones so far been Paul Rudd, Jack Black, and Matt Stone (South Park). The others have been various radio people and the bass player from Nirvana, who is kind of a strange pick. I would say that Dave Grohl sent Geddy his way But yeah, it’s great seeing Geddy in that kind of setting where he tells tales of opening for KISS, their stints with drugs, and other things that RUSH was never known for

I was blessed to see the original Montrose with Sammy at Winterland. I believe it was UFO and Journey, both great. When Montrose came out, that energy was so exciting, it's one of the highlights of my entire life and I know besides Ronnie's magic on guitar, Sammy brought it too, and I can see that's who he's been his whole life. Like he said 💯 % on stage. I cherish that memory and experience. Then years later I saw him at the Warfield Theater in S.F with H.S.A.S- Neal Schon and Michael Shrieve, unreal. Again outstanding 👏 everything he touches- its the Midas touch, gold. Thanks Red! 🎉 music 🎶 food 😋 cars 🚗 tequila! Charity work. OK 👍

I like that Dan Rather is interviewing everyone. It’s interesting to watch the “rockstar” interviews. Dan asked about sex, and wanted to know the insider details that the general public doesn’t know. 😂 I was in a touring band in the ‘80s. Dan has no idea what that life is like. 😂 I can tell Dan got shy all of a sudden when Sammy got into details. Very funny. In the ‘80s the girls were everywhere if you were in a band. I’m sure those of you that toured back then know all about it. Just the way it was. Got to say I love that Sammy had expensive wines on his rider then kept them to build a world class cellar, instead of wasting them like most rockstars would have done. Love it. That’s smart.

He finger points at the Halen Bros for only being about making money . Who's doing a cash-grab rip-off elevator music version FAKE tribute of Eddie Van Halen . And contrary to what Dan Rather says in this video , Sam can't sell albums like he did before and after he joined Van Halen .

Say what you want, I love both Van Halen's for different reasons. They both are a status of my childhood, teen years, young adult years. But I will say this, above all else, of all the versions of Van Halen, and of all of the music from both versions, one thing can be said for the Sammy version, is that they wrote and recorded, "Humans Being" in 1995. That has to be one of the single most coolest songs the 90s and the Van Halens, had given us. Something about how Eddie made that "tornado" guitar solo, going from a light storm to chaos and Sammy's hard vocals and just the entire sound and vibration of that song was an exciting time for me. Of course, with that being said, the David years did give us one of the greatest rock albums in history - Fair Warning in 1981. So there's that.

I tuned 16 in the fall of 1985 & one of the most vivid memories of that time was when the lead-singer in my high school band went to Farm Aid & saw Sammy play with Eddie for the first time. After a 10 hour drive from north of Germany back to Stockholm. My wife and the children went to bed. It was in july or august. A warm night. So I put on the new album of Van Halen. The week before we visited Amsterdam. So I bought some grams of the local lets say tobacco. So I stopped "Poundcake" and went to my car and picked up my buyings from Amsterdam, it was around 1 in the night. Sat down outside with earphones after inhaling and listen to the whole record 3 times. Totally stunned. I still feel that its a masterpiece. I have the same happines and joy Sammy has. I am 63. I saw them in Greensboro, NC on the opening night… after coming off a long deployment to Iraq… and they sounded atrocious I don’t think they did a sound check that day. I LOVE those first 6 albums. Edward changed the trajectory of my life and I am a musician today because of him. But Sammy really reinvigorated the band and especially Ed. 5150 stands right up with the DLR albums and I personally think it’s got some of Edward’s best guitar playing ever. The intro riff to Summer Nights and the intro riff to 5150 are absolutely amazing. And that tour was probably their best one. Seeing them in ‘86 is a highlight of my youth. And the Live Without A Net VHS cassette perfectly encapsulates the band during that time; just pure joy and just kicking ass on all levels. When Carnal Knowledge and Live: Right Here Right Now came out, you could tell the bloom was coming off the rose. Ed’s addiction was really getting a hold of him. And as someone in recovery I burned a lot of bridges and hurt a lot of people during those dark days.

I was touched by this. I have absolutely no success that comes close to his; but, I feel I understand and at my level I've tried to do the same as he.

One of my absolute favorite bands at their best, we graduated HS in '77, were going to go see them, the tour date for the Spectrum in Philly was either just announced or about to be, when we heard Bon died. And Lynyrd Skynyrd near the same time. What a bad time. But great take on the band, thanks Professor!

Anybody who doesn't know Sammy Hagars solo work should listen to Standing Hampton. One of my all time favorite albums. There's only one way to rock.

Now THAT, was a great interview. Caused me sit & watch an entire interview with someone I really had not much interest in. Quite inspired by what Sammy accomplished & had to say. He should be very very proud of all he has built.

Hell I was listening to WLS Chicago from Texarkana Arkansas in 1983.

WLS, we used to listen to that growing up. It's pretty cool to listen on KZfaq to the WLS broadcasts from the 70's and 80's.

More respect for Sammy after this. As humble as a rich man can be. Bringing a lot of joy to the world. Kudos Sammy. You blow David Lee Roth away as a genuine, down to earth guy.
