I was stalked 30+ years ago. Even though that terrifying chapter of my life is long over, I can easily recall the paralyzing fear and paranoia it caused within me. I felt it a little again watching this video. I'm so glad you are taking your safety seriously. One of the many things I appreciate about your channel is that eschews controversy. All of this is perfectly sensible & understandable. People give out more information than they realise. I have a passionate curiosity for maps & geography and I’m a bit of a compulsive geolocator - nothing sinister, just a bit aspy, & I was frankly incredibly disturbed that I was able to find one creator’s home address with barely any effort. I found out waaay more than I was wanting to know - this young woman’s bedroom faces onto a street and she ought to be horrified that she’s inadvertently advertised which one it is. I’m a harmless middle aged woman in Australia, but if I can find people, anyone can. All this to say, yes, please be vigilant! Your safety always has to be your top priority. And whatever you do, NEVER show a screenshot of Google maps (etc) taken while you were at home if you have location enabled!! ❤❤ Take care Dee.

Seven years ago, a guy stalked me in a store and even by way of vehicle. Thank God I was able to shake him off, but I was so scared I didn't leave my apartment for three days. I moved back to where I was more familiar too. I'm so happy you were able to kinda sort that out but I know it must still be a bit debilitating. This made me go back to your video from a year ago entitled "Can I Keep Doing This?" The end with the tears and what you said makes me think that's when it started or you were struggling. I am so sorry you had to and maybe still have to deal with that. Be safe, and yes... we don't need to know "everything". I know when I get more videos and start traveling, I will be very careful with what I share. ❤

Sadly, having had a problem was not shocking, considering how you're beautiful and lovable, though creeps probably don't have high standards for that, anyway. I can totally understand Dee where you’re coming from and I also under your need safety and protection. For about the last four years I have been wanting to get a box truck and build it out for both to living in and for work! I am a very people person but there are times when I need time for my self, I am a reader and a part time college student. I wish you the best and be safe. I wanted to create a you tube channel but I do not my photo all over the internet! I wanted to go places and do research and not be interrupted when doing research!

I totally respect your privacy. And you have no need to reveal anything you want to keep private. I was amazed when you revealed your age. I literally thought you were 15 years younger than you stated. I always like the tips you share. Which as you said, is what your channel is about. We have the exact same van, and I’m still in awe how much room you’ve squeezed out of your transit connect!

You don’t owe anybody any explanation’s little lady. Always take your safety seriously. I believe like you, 99% of people are genuinely good people. But that still leaves 1% who are bad and 1% of our population is a lot of people. I’m a retired police officer, and also have a daughter. I’m sure your dad would’ve loved to have tracked the stalker down and relieved him of his stalking tendencies lol. If anybody ever tried to hurt my daughter, I’d have no problem smiling in my mugshot. Your channel has been one of my favorites since I started the vanlife dreaming and it’s because you’re real, and your videos are very informative. I saw you a while back on I-80 but I didn’t want to approach you because I didn’t want to make you feel uneasy or anything. You just talked about keeping some of your favorite places a secret, that’s a great idea because if you let everyone know, others might trash the place. There’s just people out there that ruin it for everyone. You just enjoy your travels and don’t worry about keeping your private life private. We’re here for the vanlife content and ideas. I’m a private person myself, so I get it. Happy trails ma’am.

Sadly, the way humanity has gone, you absolutely always first and foremost keep your safety and well being first. Period. I always enjoy learning from your tips, hints and ideas. By the way, those pita veggie Sammie’s looked delicious 😃 A lot of other creators I’ve seen will give specific dates, locales and times of when and where. Then post about negative situations happening. One cannot be to careful anymore. I don’t blame you a bit on the big meets and greets, just not my wife and myself thing. We had tried, but didn’t enjoy the seemingly endless prying questions. So we just avoid those situations. For the folks that enjoy that atmosphere, go mingle and enjoy to hearts content. In my opinion your channel is tops. Your channel is one of the most informative that I have found about all things van life. It doesn't need to include personal details or locations. It's pretty perfect just as you choose to present it! I am SO glad someone finally stated the obvious...if we find a place we love as it is, don't give details about where it is. It really is true, a place can be loved to death. 35 years ago, I found a most amazing place. So many people loved this place and told others, "you have to go there", today, it does not even remotely resemble the place I once treasured. Once it was "discovered" what was so very special about it changed completely. The same can be said about van life in general, but that genie is out of the botte now and we can't put her back. LOL!

I understand everything you have told and for that I am happy that you do not tell. There are strange people on the world out there and I have a few in town where I live drive by slow often to see if I am out on my front porch, my favorite place besides the woods. I make sure to have my dog with me and he is over 100 pounds and a Great Pyrenees and would eat someone who came too close to me. I am a widow for the past 16 years and there are people who like to take advantage of that but they know I have a aggressive dog who will not allow them even on my front porch and my house is super safe as there are cameras everywhere. When I finally get on the road in my Suburu Outback it will be covered with cameras too and safety items. My health should be better by May or June to start my traveling. I will start only in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee as there are so many wonderful places there to visit I have not been to since I was a child. Stay safe and be healthy and happy. I passed you on an Illinois hwy one time and just beeped beeped as I drove past. There are some very crazy people out there and I do not want to be a part of them either. Have a fantastic weekend!

Thanks for creating this video. I didn’t think about some of the safety issues you brought up, especially vanlife gatherings. A woman youtuber I follow posts her videos weeks behind but she was in a lot of other people’s videos who posts days behind so we knew exactly where she was in real time. That’s scary. Someone said one of the problems with being on KZfaq is people can gain the notoriety of a famous person but they don’t have the security of a famous person. That’s a real problem for KZfaqrs, especially women KZfaqrs, and something we all need to think about. Glad that situation has been handled and that you’re safe. Take care. ❤

Hi Dee, I watch your channel sometimes. I now will actually subscribe. This is part of van life, but also more importantly life in general. I grew up and lived in the US until I was 38 years old. Almost every man I broke up with stalked me. I had to get a restraining order a couple of times. I thought it was me I was not seeing signs. Then I moved to Europe and while it isn't perfect here, I never had that problem again. It made me feel better knowing there was nothing wrong with me. This video can be triggering, and yes some women will hear it and be afraid. But ladies I wasn't doing van life when I was stalked. Think about it, if you are being stalked and live in a van you can move the van. In a house if the stalker knows where you live you feel trapped and scared, I know. The sad part is Dee not feeling safe or able to go to events. Good informative video Dee, stay safe.

I'm so glad you have resolved your stalker situation. It only takes one to spoil it for the 99. Traveling in a group is an excellent idea for solo women. However, I suggest you get a Deloris. My aunt doesn't play this BS with stalkers. Every girl needs an Aunt Deloris by her side. Never allow a man to get close enough to touch you. Even a small man can easily overpower a woman. You must even score, especially if you are always traveling alone.

First time seeing your channel. Think I'll subscribe and check it out. I like the tip of "I don't tell you where I am". I'm just a camper, not a van lifer. I have one Park that I love to stay at often. Quiet, not many people. Not well known. I was talking to the Park Director about that one day. I mentioned that to her. She replied, "Don't tell anyone, so we can keep this peaceful place as our little secret place". I thought of that when you mentioned it. When people ask me where I go, I tell then, "Oh, it's just a little place in the Southern part of the State (Ohio)".

Hi Dee, yes it is very important not to let people know where you are at any given time, except some close friends or relatives that need to know your exact location for safety sake. Except if you have a family like mine that does not know how to be quiet. But I do let 2 of my close friends know where I am as I am traveling. I am only part time on the road but sincerely would love to be full time. I have learned a lot from your channel and quite a few others. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
