Van Life: How To Quickly Make Window Screens
I just quickly whipped up a side window screen for our trip to the RTR this year. They are super easy to make cheap. If you just want to buy nice window screens I will include a link to Skeeter Beater. I have also provided a link to the screen material I used. Just get you some magnets and duct tape and you are all set.

I made the same screens for my minivan camper but used the larger magnets. Hold like a dream. In fact I went for a ride and forgot the screens were on the back windows, they never moved!

You might want to cut another screen for the other side so you get cross ventilation. I know you said you had other plans for vents but you just never know. We were in Texas this year in June and about died - 112 in the shade. Thank goodness for the screens on the front windows and also on the back. Made is tolerable with two fans running (we had electric).

Go to Harbor Freight to buy the big square magnets . I and used them on my car window screens .work great

I think you want to get the neodymium type magnets. I'm no magnet expert though.

How would you do it on the inside of the van? I have plastic molding inside. No magnets would work there.

Adhesive bits of metal plate stuck to the plastic , or if you don't want to stick with the adhesive just tape them to the plastic

You live and learn..with even the weak magnets, I don't believe mosquitos would get since you have covered beyond the opening. Good job.

Janet Folkerts any place where the screen is not secure to the opening becomes an entry point for bugs. The entire objective of a mosquito is to DRINK BLOOD. They will seek any opening that allows them access to the BLOOD source. If the bottom of the screen isn't tight against the opening, and sealed to the frame, the mosquitoes will get in.

i did that too. but used neodinium magnets. but pretty much exactly the same. then i bought skeeter beaterz cuz they are better. cuz duct tape does NOT stand up to rain and dirt well, makes a sticky mess on the edges, doesn't hold the magnets without coming loose, and is too rigid to fold nicely into a teeny pouch for easier storage. i'd prefer skreenz, but they didn't have a size for my van.

heheh. yep. that's how it worked out for me, too. So that venting that you're planning. How will that work? Will you cut through the floor? Or are there existing floor vents of some sort?

Stephen Hazel I am not positive yet. I can't make up my mind what direction I want to go on this. I have a few ideas I just need to pick one.

my nissan nv200 has floor vents in the rear. well, in bottom of walls for venting OUT. i'm thinkin bout removing the flaps that make em vent only out and make one vent in and the other out. or both in to push hot air out the 2 front windows. I'm not sure too :)

NewZona Rides 2 that's great thanks. I kniw yours is temporary I'm thinking of trying to either tape the magnets in when trimming the screen in the duct tape. giving me good ideas.

The magnets stick better on the screening, they don’t stick very well on duct tape.

If you think about it you'll realize duct tape was invented to connect air conditioning ducts together without blowing apart at the joins, of course a few screws were also used but if they stick out inside in the air stream they would pick up lint and dust so were kept to a minimum. If you try duct tape on Wiki you'll some more interesting facts.

Consider putting the screen on the inside of the window instead of the outside for better control and window control.

stronger mags are better don't for get about strong windd gusts that may have us chasing the screen and rounding up mags that fell on the ground..great stuff tho appreciate it very much ! ! !

Why didn't you put the screen on the INSIDE of the window so the seal would be intact all the way around and NOT subject to flying off the van exterior?

You think paying $60 for a screen mesh with magnets around your window is pricey? Wow. I bet you buy a tuxedo suit at Walmart and then once you're done with it, take it back for a full refund.
