Van Life in Australia can get expensive when you factor in things like fuel but that's why we love having the option to free camp near some pretty awesome spots like Grampians National Park - this spot is where our van life journey was really born and tested and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Camping on a budget forces you to get a little creative but it makes it that much sweeter when things go to plan! We were so excited to share Lake Lonsdale with you all, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we do every single time we camp there.

We’re Doug and Jamie - an aussie / american couple who love adventures, good food and exploring new places. For the past few years we have be using what we’ve had to explore more of Australia - which wasn’t much. But in 2020 we upgraded Doug’s work van and it now doubles as our home on wheels part time. 2022 was the year we decided it needed a makeover so we jumped into a big van build series over the winter, ready to hit spring in our new setup! Our hope for this channel is to grow a community of likeminded people and to inspire others to jump in the drivers seat of their own life (pun intended) and create their own magic. And after surviving life in one of the most lockdown cities in the world the last few years, we are back in action ready to share our adventures!

The first time I visited the Grampians was about a decade ago. I stayed at Paradise Caravan park in a retro caravan. Loved the place and took heaps of photos. Did go into Hall's Gap and took some trails and after my years of walking Flinders Ranges, found it terribly crowded. These days I'm in a van with pets so many places are off limits. Dunkeld is my favourite town, free hot showers, and Izzys cafe is THE BEST! Hall's Gap I mostly leave to the tourists😀

Ohh we will have to venture into Dunkeld! a hot shower on the road is like GOLD! and yes i can imagine with the pets it would really limit things which is unfortunate!! what pets do you have?! jamie is a BIG dog lover!

Hi guys, just came across your vid’s, absolutely love your energy, and great to see you guys explore our beautiful state!! We don’t see much camping videos around Victoria so you have inspired us to visit plenty of places already. Not sure if you have checked out this place yet and is on the way to the Grampians, but check out Green Hill Lake (Ararat) as far as I’m aware is a gold coin donation camp not free but as close as your going to get to free😂. There is also a lookout in the area called One Tree Hill lookout( worth the look especially at sunset) btw bring jumpers and jackets coz it gets pretty cold even in summer!! Hope they can give you some inspo the next time you visit the Grampians. Keep those videos coming!!

Just want to ask guys you say it’s free camping what’s the sign that’s on the fence doesn’t that mean no camping

Yeah that sign states there is "no camping beyond the fence" of that area, so you can't get right up to the water but there are plenty of big open spots in the area that is designated for free camping before you hit the fenced off part! :)
