We've been on our Tasmania Road Trip for a couple of weeks now, and it just keeps getting better! This week, we leave Strahan and head into the centre of Tassie, visiting a few waterfalls on the way, checking out the West Coast Wilderness Railway and FREE camping overnight at Lake King William.
We do one of our favourite hikes EVER, at the Needles, before relaxing at another free camp at Ted's Beach on Lake Pedder.
Seriously, the Van Life in the Tasmanian Wilderness is just blowing us away!
And, Tassie is the perfect place for Van Life - short drives, and plenty of epic Free Camps.
Seriously, does it get any better?

If you're still looking for platypus you're just about guaranteed to see one at the mole creek caravan park! Its a small campground by a creek where they are seen most afternoons

We did see a couple right at the end of our trip. Sadly we didn’t make it to Mole Creek this time, but we will definitely be back!

Fantastic. I used to live in Tasmania and you take things for granted. Other words tourists get to see more than locals.

I think that’s always the way when you live somewhere you have all the time, so you kind of put off exploring. When we visit with limited time, we want to see as much as we can! We loved Tassie. Thanks so much for watching

Magnificent state to visit, you certainly picked a nice day for your hike. The weather can change so quickly in that region, sometimes without notice. I'm glad you are taking your time to see all the beautiful sights it is well worth it. Thanks for sharing your travels. Cheers Michael

Incredibly stunning scenery in a truly beautiful part of the world. Well done, Nigel and Sue. It's was such a valiant effort, especially since you both were not 100% not well, so very rewarding, you two just keep pushing boundaries to give us something special, each time! Thank you 😊

It's so good! We really prefer the quieter hikes (some of them in Tassie are SO busy) and more off the beaten track. This one ticked all the boxes. AND it was a great workout. Thanks for watching!

Great video guys. Glad you are liking Tasmania. The bird your saw at Lake King William was a Black Currawong which is endemic to Tasmania, watch them as they can be thieves, they can open zips on back packs and take whatever they can carry. Well known for doing this on the Cradle Mountain trail.

As usual, great vid! Living vicariously isn’t thar bad. Much easier than walking those peaks. I must say I was almost exhausted when you guys got to the top. Currently working on our truck to add the tricky component of actually walking those tracks ourselves. Great vid.

I haven't been to Tasmania and the only place I have seen platypus was in the Tablelands outside Cairns. There are alot of lovely Christmas Bells near the summit as well as other flowers. Congratulations on making it to the top and taking me along with you and showing the magnificent views, they are just amazing. I walked the Routeburn Track in NZ years ago with a full backpack and my knees had the Elvis Presley shakes then, I can't imagine what they would be like that climb now! Your photography is amazing, thank you.

Another great episode. Those insects are annoying eh? I am surprised you have not come across any snakes yet especially on those bush hiking trails. Anyway the road up out of Queenstown is great and even better on a bike. I look forward to the Port Arthur experience as my GGG Grandfather was a resident of that place for a while. Tell Nigel he will see Tassie devils but it will not be cheap. The caravan park at Huonville is the best spot and free to see them being fed. Hobart is amazing and a look around Cascades Female Factory a must. My GGG Grandmother was a resident there ( she married my Port Arthur GGG Grandfather). Gotta love convicts in the family. Salamanca Place is worth a wander and if you feel hungry a meal at the Ball and Chain near Kelly's Steps or Irish Murphy's pub are worth a visit. I am going back next year on the bike ( again ) and you have given me some options on places to see. Cheers and safe travels.

Cheers Bob, glad you enjoyed it. Look out for Port Arthur episode in two weeks time. We did see quite a few snakes on the road (mostly dead) and only one on a trail. Cradle Mountain from memory. It was only a baby though about 30cm long. Thank you for following our journey

I’m not even a minute in and need to comment! 🤣 Firstly, Devils used to be a common sight in the 90s, they weren’t elusive then. It’s just that bloody facial tumour disease nearly wiped them out. Secondly, if you want to see wild platypuses you don’t need to be in the wilderness, there are quite a few living along the Hobart Rivulet in South Hobart with a nice walking track alongside leading from nearly the CBD to the Cascade brewery. Now I’ll shut up and keep watching! Edit: I know I said I’d shut up but at 7:33 that’s a pied currawong.

It’s just devastating and tragic that they have almost been wiped out! We have a running joke about not spotting much wildlife, when we do it’s always a celebration!
